For episode 1.02 of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, the following roles are being cast: Silvermist, a beautiful 20-something Asian looking for revenge; Bearded Man/Farzeen Shahmed, a 40-year-old Middle Eastern man who sells scarves; and Old Prisoner, a 60-year-old Middle Eastern man who was imprisoned by Jafar 10 years ago. The Old Prisoner is a recurring guest role.

[adrotate group="5"]Silvermist = Jasmine? Though it doesn’t mention her as being recurring, and I’d think Jasmine would be, (of course, maybe she will be and the casting call just doesn’t mention it). The 60 year old imprisoned by Jafar could be her father?
FWIW, Silvermist is actually the name of a Disney Fairy, and she looks sorta Jasmine-y with the black hair and greeny-blue clothing, so I could buy it as a code name.
Yeah my money is on Jasmine. So we will see Agrabah. Interesting. And apparently be getting the Aladdin story as well as WL.

It does seem kinda weird to potentially have Jasmine and Aladdin’s story on a show called Wonderland. But if it means we get to see Jasmine and Aladdin sooner in the Onceiverse, I’m cool with it.
If we had to wait for them to integrate them into Once, who knows how long we’d have to wait, and K&H have no guarantees for how many more seasons they’re gonna get. Right now all they know for sure is they’ve got a season 3. With the spinoff, they have a guaranteed place to show Jasmine and Aladdin right now, instead of keeping them in reserve and then potentially not getting a 4th or 5th season, and never getting around to including them at all. If WL only gets one season, they could still include Jasmine and Aladdin in Once in the future should the opportunity arise.
I’ve seen that “complaint” before. Lots of people wondering why the Aladdin story is getting woven into a story set (at least mainly) in WL so it makes me wonder if WL is just where most of the characters are from, and is Alice’s story, but like OUAT it will bring in lots of other stories and worlds. It really is OUAT 2.0 but with Alice and Cyrus instead of Snowing.

I don’t know if you all remember the TV mini series, Arabian Nights. [/url] It aired back in 2000. Aladdin was in there and he was Chinese, as well as “Jasmine” (although they didn’t give the princess a name, at least I don’t recall one).
This casting call just reminded me of that.
Edit: Actually, according to IMDB, her name was Princess Zobeide.

Yeah, Aladdin’s story is a Middle Eastern folk tale, but Aladdin himself was Chinese, and the girl he marries in the original was called Princess Badroulbadour from the “Far East”, which isn’t terribly specific, so “Asian” in the casting call would certainly fit for Jasmine.
