Day 26- Least Favourite Plot Twist – Rumple taking Hook’s heart and forcing him to become a magical hit man for him. That’s when I truly stopped being a Rumple stans. That and Rumple being gleefully happy about murdering our savior.
THREE days left!!!

Neal being dead if not for sharing Rumple’s body then Neal dying- The CGI for the body sharing was bloody awful and freaky in the “kill it with fire” sense. Also it was a waste of a character who was the bed rock for the show. If Neal’s death had been given the gravitas it deserved since that was a MAJOR death in the show’s mythology then it would’ve been interesting to see how the other characters cope with that, instead it’s just seemingly been ignored. It was a sloppy way to end the CSF triangle, and was also kind of a disservice to both Emma and Hook since Emma didn’t “choose” who she wanted to be with so Hook “won” by default of the other guy dying rather than on his own merits. At the very least they could’ve de-aged Neal back to Baelfire so there was still the tragedy of “Neal” being gone but you still get the storyline potential of Baelfire for Henry and Rumple.
Second place goes to Tamara being evil and also a secret minion of Peter Pan who was also cheating on Neal with Greg who also thought she was working for a company getting rid of magic but was being lied to- It was too much. Why couldn’t Tamara have been a nice normal fiancée? Instead of killing Neal, they could’ve had him live in New York with Tamara and Henry could be visiting when he wasn’t required on-screen instead of just being a plot device who appears and disappears when needed.
Third place is every villain on the show so far somehow being tied to Henry’s family tree either through genetics or near adoption.- Is it too much to ask to have a villain NOT related to Henry’s family tree?
All magic comes with a price!

I don’t know about most obvious, but I hate all the plot devices that exist on this show
1) Magic beans. I LOATHE BEANS. At first they were super rare and extinct and now they are the easy solution for all your traveling needs!
2) The Wishing Star: Really?! We never hear anything about this wishing star until the episode where it gets used because Frozen All the Things was coming to an end and we needed to reunite Anna and Elsa
3) The Pegasus Sail: how many poor beasties died so that the Jones brothers could fly?!
4) The Vault of Eternal Goo: HERE IS A MAGIC VAULT THAT IS IN THE BACKYARD OF RUMPLE THAT NO ONE HAS EVER FOUND OR SEEN OR MESSED WITH IN THE 1000000+ YEARS OF THE EF EXISTING. IT JUST SO HAPPENS TO CONTAIN ALL THE DARK ONE DARKNESS WHATEVER THAT MEANS.
5) The Magical Gauntlet of Feelings that was the dumbest…I mean really? You have a ready made reason for Anna to tell the tale of Rumple: HER NAME IS BELLE.

The Gauntlet from 411.
They had laid down an obvious and beautiful solution for Belle to find out about the hat/dagger from Anna. Belle was motivated to help Anna by their previous friendship (406) and her involvement with the fairies (409); it only made sense that once things calmed down and Anna was fine, Belle would seek her out for closure. And besides, she’d worked with Elsa and Emma to help the whole season (mostly in the background, boo A&E).
Having Anna warn Belle would have made a LOT more sense from Anna’s perspective (and oh, wouldn’t it have been fun for her to react to Belle’s marrying Rumple?) than her telling Emma, and Belle would have been more likely to say oh, you’re right, than Emma, and they still could’ve kept the stupid gauntlet for Belle’s final proof if they wanted to. Overall, though, it would have been about 3000% more satisfying to have the characters actually interact (that’s the best thing about Once and always has been–when you get to see your favorite fairytale characters mashed together) than to have Belle just randomly and coincidentally use the Gauntlet of Plot Deviciness in time to save Storybrooke.
This was, in my opinion, a much bigger failure than the taser–the taser didn’t make sense, but it did make sense for Tamara to have some kind of anti-magic weapon and use it in the contexts she did within the storyline. The setup and execution of the gauntlet was AWFUL as well as last-minute-esque and they had a ready-made, drama-filled, emotionally satisfying, character-driven alternative RIGHT THERE that had been set up throughout the arc. (It would even have challenged Hook more, since he was under orders to keep Belle away from Anna–yay obstacles!–which was evidently not a problem at all. Oh, and it would have made it make bloody sense for everyone to show up in the tower simultaneously as they all would have been coming from the same place.)
This resolution was, for me, about the third-biggest disappointment so far in the series, with Neal’s death beating it and pointlessly leaving Belle in Storybrooke during the Neverland arc immediately under that.

February 27, 2015 at 9:22 am #296968obisgirlParticipantDay 27- Most Obvious Plot Device – (As a character) – Lily. The writers needed a reason for Emma not to give up on her friendship with Regina, so they created Lily, a mini-version of Regina in order to make the start of a Regina/Emma friendship even plausible. In the grand scheme of things, I don’t think Lily is important to the over all plot. I think of her as one these one-off characters that was needed for plot purposes. (Now, the writers are trying to fix that by giving her own episode arc. I hope it fails).
2nd choice is Neal. Instead of going into why, read this meta here for more information.
Day 27- Most Obvious Plot Device – (object) – Objects from Camelot or Camelot in general. I don’t think Adam and Eddy have any real intention to ever touch Camelot mythology and find a way to integrate it into the show and that’s really sad because I think awesome things can be done with Camelot/King Arthur mythology. But instead of actually going to Camelot, all we get are these ridiculous plot device objects that allude to Camelot. (But to satisfy my own need for Camelot and Once, I’m writing a fanfic, Captain Swan centric of course…which is now complete finally but not posted yet because I’m editing).
I don’t think Adam and Eddy re-writing Camelot would be an issue, like Peter Pan. Camelot/King Arthur is in the public domain.

Snow splitting her heart to save Charming- The ability to do so came out of absolutely nowhere and the audience had been led to believe that a crushed heart was final. Not to mention it’s biologically impossible to split a heart in half and survive, it’s not like Regina cloned the heart, she literally twisted it in half like a kinder egg. The ridiculousness of this plot device actually takes away from the powerful scene of Charming’s sacrifice (which was wasted anyway due to Regina and not Emma being the one to defeat Zelena. There was no need to travel back to Storybrooke in the grand scheme of things).
Second place goes to the gauntlet- As Keb said, they had Anna right there which would’ve been the perfect way for Belle to find out the truth about Rumple if they had just let them interact.
Third place goes to Henry- How else can you describe his role than that of the plot device. He literally came into the scene in 411 just to knock stuff of the shelf which just so happened to contain the gauntlet so Belle could find it. The he left the scene and the next time we see him, he’s just so happened to find the author’s secret room.
(On a side note about the gauntlet, why was it treated as such a big secret Rumple was deliberately keeping from Belle when it was so clearly just stashed on a shelf collecting dust all forgotten. Surely if Rumple was trying to keep it hidden from Belle, he would’ve had it in his safe? Also, Belle did inventory of Rumple’s shop during 3B and in 4A after Elsa breaks in, shouldn’t she have found the gauntlet then?)

I’m surprised nobody has brought her up, but the Plot Devicey Blue Fairy. She really only exists when somebody else needs her, or to push somebody else’s storyline along.
Another big plot device that annoyed me was Jefferson being used as a plot device not once, but twice. First time he was used to magically time travel Regina’s poison apple with his hat. Second time he randomly knew all about Belle and where she was locked up. What?
Special shout out goes to the Plot Devicey Enchanted Broom. First of all, seeing this broom actually walk on screen like in Fantasia made me laugh. Second of all, why did Rumple need the broom to get to the Apprentice’s house, and how did he find the broom in the first place? Third of all, the broom can locate magical portal doors to get to other realms? That sure would have been handy a long time ago.

THIS! I also agree with every other plot device everyone has mentioned so far (Blue Fairy, beans, Tamara’s taser…), except the one about Neal, but that’s not really something we need to go into here. But the plot devices on this show are exceedingly ridiculous.
February 28, 2015 at 7:32 am #297074RumplesGirlKeymasterDay 28- Future Plotlines you’d like to see
This one is really hard. As most of you have probably realized my relationship with this show has become somewhere between ennui and down right anger and resentment. Its hard for me to say what I want to see in the future because, for the most part, I just don’t really care. There’s no point in me getting emotionally involved or coming up with huge headcanons like I used to because the writers will always go in a different direction that fits with their Shiny Toy Syndrome tendencies and everything ends after 11 episodes anyway, with the villains dying until A and E want to play the “ah but were they really dead?!” card and bring them back for more Shiny Toys to play with. I don’t have any villains or mythos I want to see. There is no Disney character I’m going to be bitter about never getting.
Honestly, all I want is my Kitchen Table episode
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"February 28, 2015 at 9:44 am #297085obisgirlParticipantDay 28- Future Plotlines you’d like to see — I look forward to seeing more of Emma and Killian’s growth, the battles they face together, finding their happy ending together, realizing their love for each other, all the kisses, hugs, “Coffee,” a certain magical smooch, babies and more adventures together.
