With Liam being English, and there being a few English kings named William, I wonder if this guy could be a royal?
William III
Eight days before William was born, his father died of smallpox; thus William was the Sovereign Prince of Orange from the moment of his birth. Immediately, a conflict ensued between the Princess Royal and William II’s mother, Amalia of Solms-Braunfels, over the name to be given to the infant. Mary wanted to name him Charles after her brother, but her mother-in-law insisted on giving him the name William or Willem to bolster his prospects of becoming stadtholder. William II had appointed his wife as his son’s guardian in his will; however the document remained unsigned at William II’s death and was void.

Deceased father, mother without legal rights over him, sounds orphan-ish. Now, I admit, this over analysis stems from my thinking that it’d be cool for Killian to have some royal blood, (which I was wanting even before I started mashing him up with Eric in my head), and with the mention of dark hair, I’m thinking this Liam guy is probably his father. Plus, William and Killian is a cute pair of almost matchy names. In my original Killian headcanon, his parents were killed when he was young and someone spirited him away so he wouldn’t get killed too. So I’ve been on the we-need-a-royal-orphan bandwagon for a while.I reckon the Devin kid might be a Lost Boy who reminds Hook of himself at that age. We know they’ve already had Lost Boys on set, so if they need a stand out one, and they’re introducing him in a Hook ep, I’d guess he’s got some significance for Hook in some way.
One more pondering about this ep…if they wanna show Killian in his late teens, do you reckon they’d have Colin play the part, like they did with JMo? I know lots of people didn’t really buy her as being 17/18. It worked enough for me that I bought it with a little bit of suspension of disbelief. Give Colin a shave and stick him in brighter clothing, and he might just pass for a late teens, baby faced pirate.

Unless we’re going to see that Hook doesn’t really know why his father left. But right now, I’m slightly more inclined to think that Liam might be the man who “fathered” Hook and taught him how to be a Pirate.
Also, Devin. It says that he is a Lost Boy. Do we trust that? Do we think Hook was a lost boy?

What’s making me go with bio-dad as opposed to father figure is that they specified the hair colour, and it’ll match Hook’s. If they’re not looking for a look-alike, why mention hair colour at all? Unless they want a match so they can fake out the audience and reveal in a later ep that this guy isn’t his bio-dad after all?
Hook: When I was a boy, my father and I boarded a ship with plans to travel the realms. One morning, I awoke and he was gone. Turned out he was a fugitive, and he fled in the middle of the night to avoid capture.
Bae: He abandoned you?
Hook: Aye, that he did.Seems he thought his dad was an alright guy until he disappeared, and who knows if what Killian was told about why he disappeared was true. Would actually be poetic in a way, if he wasn’t told the truth, considering Rumple didn’t tell Bae the truth when his mother disappeared…with Killian.

That’s why I was trying to do the math in a post on the previous page, because I know there’s been speculation about him being in NL as a boy. But I dunno that it’d fit.

A and E do love parallels.

Don’t know how I feel about it. On the one hand, it would be highly ironic if Rumple and Hook were lost boys together but Rumple knew Hook by a different name (Eric…?) and Hook forgot about Rumple after Rumple left NL.
On the other hand, I don’t know if it works out. Hook is slightly younger than Rumple (younger looking at least) so if Hook was a lost boy then he left NL after Rumple had grown up a few years.
This all depends on Rumple being in NL, of course. They did not so I do not think Hook and Rumpel were lost boys together. It is possible they didn’t if it had been decades, but still odd.

August 14, 2013 at 9:55 am #204845PheeParticipantAgreed. I had wondered a while back if maybe Hook knew to go there after Milah died because he’d been there before, but now I really don’t think he had been. We’ve now seen, and heard in interviews, that he really didn’t wanna go back in present day. If he’d been there as a child and knew what the place was like, why was he smiling so big and sounding so excited when he told Smee they were off to NL? Does not compute.
August 14, 2013 at 9:59 am #204846obisgirlParticipantOkay, here’s my theory:
Devin and Liam are the same person. In the description of Liam, he grew up as an orphan. Who are Lost Boys? Boys who have been abandoned, they are lost. Devin grew up a lost boy but at some point, stopped being a Lost Boy and came back to fairytale land to become Liam, the Navy Captain.
August 14, 2013 at 10:16 am #204849kfchimeraParticipantThat could work. So that is how Hook heard of NL. And a new mystery–how did that guy get out of NL?

August 14, 2013 at 10:17 am #204850SlurpeezParticipantI had overlooked that Liam was raised as an orphan. What if Liam is Devin grown up? Perhaps Devin, an orphan boy, came to live in Neverland, spent some time there, but somehow left to return to the EF. Liam grew up to become a captain of the Navy and later became Killian’s father-figure (biological or not), took young Killian aboard his ship to see foreign lands and told Killian about NL. Liam later abandoned Killian (either intentionally or not). That could be how Killian knew about NL in the first place.

Good point connecting the Lost Boys and orphans.
I just hope that if this Liam guy does end up being Killian’s father, that the character’s name is actually William. Because only the first and last letters of those names are different. Though that would mean there’s no Eric, or Davy…but still, William and Killian just go so well together.
