I just hope it’s a Gold episode; it’s hard to believe that he might go a whole half season without any centric….
The only thing I can come up with is that it’s the title of Scottish singer/songwriter Amy McDonald’s recent album and she recorded it at Paul Weller’s studio. I don’t know who he is, but I know he’s friends with Bobby………..so maybe it is a Gold episode, lol

– Ugu The Shoemaker
A curious thing about Ugu the Shoemaker was that he didn’t suspect in the least that he was wicked. He wanted to be powerful and great, and he hoped to make himself master of all the Land of Oz that he might compel everyone in that fairy country to obey him, His ambition blinded him to the rights of others, and he imagined anyone else would act just as he did if anyone else happened to be as clever as himself.
When he inhabited his little shoemaking shop in the City of Herku, he had been discontented, for a shoemaker is not looked upon with high respect, and Ugu knew that his ancestors had been famous magicians for many centuries past and therefore his family was above the ordinary. Even his father practiced magic when Ugu was a boy, but his father had wandered away from Herku and….The Wizard of Oz? Rumple? Wicked Witch?
February 12, 2014 at 2:03 pm #244646RumplesGirlKeymasterWell that was fairly easy.
One second we’re all confused and then it’s like…oh. Right. The SHOES!
So this likely the story of Glinda and the shoes, with her history with the WWW and maybe the Wizard.
We should be seeing a casting for Glinda soon 🙂

We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.”
This could fit rather nicely if we have people dealing with the aftermath of the big death.
February 12, 2014 at 2:09 pm #244652RumplesGirlKeymasterMy guess is that this deals with 1) who made the shoes or how they came into existence and 2) the history of WWW and Glinda (possibly the Wizard if he’s Rumple)
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"February 12, 2014 at 2:12 pm #244653SlurpeezParticipantI did a quick search online for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by By L. Frank Baum. Turns out there is a reference to “a curious thing” in the story itself. The excerpt is taken from chapter 23 entitled “Glinda The Good Witch Grants Dorothy’s Wish.”
“The Silver Shoes,” said the Good Witch, “have wonderful powers. And one of the most curious things about them is that they can carry you to any place in the world in three steps, and each step will be made in the wink of an eye. All you have to do is to knock the heels together three times and command the shoes to carry you wherever you wish to go.” Source
I think this episode is about Glinda the Good Witch and the silver shoes. (In the film version, they were ruby slippers, but in the book, they’re called the silver shoes). The chapter is about Glinda granting Dorothy’s wish to return home to Kansas, so Glinda grants her the silver shoes and instructs her on how to use them. Then Dorothy clicks her heels together and she wakes up back home at the farm with Aunty Em and Uncle Henry.

I do think the most obvious reference here is the slippers–and I like that find Grimmstar about the Ugu character. Perhaps just as we met Jefferson, who once made a magic hat to travel realms (or did he?) –we might meet the person who made the shoes, and that could be Glinda, or someone else.
I was speculating wildly in chat, what if Glinda is Grace’s mother (Jefferson’s partner who was ‘lost” somehow?). It could be done without Jefferson necessarily needing to appear, if it were *her* side of things–and it seemed like Jefferson and some kind of falling out with Rumple, which he would if he refused to go searching in different worlds anymore because of Grace.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
February 12, 2014 at 2:19 pm #244658obisgirlParticipantThat’s an interesting theory, @kfchimera .
February 12, 2014 at 3:17 pm #244670CrownedWithLaurelsParticipantHa! I was getting ready to post the quote from the book about Glinda and the slippers, but looks like I was beat to the punch 🙂 The phrase “curious things” was used multiple times in the books as my own search found, but the one pertaining to Glinda and the slippers was definitely the most profound to me, considering we will be meetin g Glinda this ep. I’m on my phone right now so if I post the screenshots for the other references just for fun they will be gigantic . I’ll get online and post them in a few.
