This bugged me, but I’m willing to chalk it up to them having needed Neal to know about the castle, and they were hoping no one would remember that he never lived in the castle, because I doubt there’ll ever be an explanation for it.
didn’t henry give neal the book back in S2? and isn’t Rumple in his castle in parts of it?

That’s true, also remember Bae was in Neverland for a long time whose to say what he didn’t know of his father while he spent his days there.

I would have liked to have seen REGINA react to Emma proclaiming herself as Henry’s mother.. some interaction between the two would have been nice. At odds with each other or proclaiming a pact between the two of them would have been nice.
DESPITE the fireballs.. I think REGINA was too laid back just following Emma’s proclamation that she was the leader… Not like Regina at all… I think she is up to something. Only time will tell.
Yes I enjoyed the premier and look for the rest of the season. Look forward to seeing how everything will play out.

October 2, 2013 at 8:50 am #213494MyrilParticipantleast fave moments:
– killing Greg and Tamara and the handling of the whole Home Office story line.
No idea how big they wanted to make that story, if they cut down on it, but it sure leaves me scratching my head. Yes we got Greg’s background story, but we know iota about Tamara. Maybe we will learn more about her, but right now I find the whole story line very, very unsatisfying. Was letting them believe in some ominous home office, which turns out to be pretty much non-existent (no surprise), a pun? Paranoid, dystopian kind of thrillers with some agency called office are bit of a hype, it’s overdue that someone makes fun of it, but it didn’t really come across as pun. Killing the two now was okay as in that they served their purpose (mostly to get Henry alone to Neverland and give a sense of danger). Possible Greg isn’t dead, but this character is too obviously a pawn and plotdevice to actually care about him, maybe useful later again to explain something about the shadow ripping (edit: meanwhile Adam Horowitz stated on Twitter, that Greg is dead). And Tamara? What a waste of character and decent acting. I am not the only one wondering at least a little by now if being of colour is a curse in this show. OUaT is in dire need of more diversity.
– The storm
Okay, water, any kind of fluid is a tough thing to do in CGI. And faking rain and spray is neither in CGI nor on set easy. The soundmix was, well, you hardly can understand people when wind and rain and ocean is roaring all around you, but still, the dialogue was not unimportant. The cuts, different camera angles, editing alone though did much to make me feel seasick (even though in scenes on the island). Sometimes wish some directors/dp would listen to Bach, immerse in his music and learn something from his art of counterpoint, harmonic and use of motif. Be interesting, dynamic, all fine, but it can be overdone at times. Anyway. The bad about the writing: think not everybody got it, that the storm was connected to and influenced by their emotions, their anger and distrust. Can only guess, that it was not called by the mermaid but something coming onto them anyway.
BTW, think the shell the mermaid grabbed and used as conch was a lobatus gigas, also called queen conch.
And apropos mermaids: Please stop calling them fish! Shsssh. You trespass into their realm as if it’s your very right, you offend them constantly and then you’re surprised they don’t like you? Ya, they attacked without proper warning, but who knows how many have crossed the mermaids before. Think I am going to launch a rights group for merpeople- anyone in? 😉
fave moments:
– Emma tackling her parents
Finally. Let it out! And yes, their optimism can drive one crazy at times.
Great acting by all three but especially by JMo
– Rumple killing Tamara
Yes despite all. Because of what doing so showed about Rumple. Tamara did awful things and sure deserved to be punished, but think we never have the right to decide if someone deserves death, let alone kill them. Rumple was judge and executioner in one. Worse, Tamara showed honest remorse, but Rumple lacked the tiniest bit of mercy. Understandable, he believes he lost his son, that Tamara killed him, but doesn’t make his action any right. This short scene showed that Rumple is in a bad place, he has nothing to lose anymore. Powerful scene.
– the attack of the mermaids/the storm
yes, I am contradictory. But it was interesting how they reacted to the attack of the mermaids and the threat of the storm
Hook: wanted to outrun, the mermaids and then the storm, and he wasn’t really into a fight with David
David: jumped to action without much of a thought or tactic, grabbed the gun (he loves guns, does he, the knight) and shot; fight, fight hard and something will come up to hopefully turn the tide, could be his motto; and never say something offensive about his loved ones unless you’re eager for a fight
Snow: wanted to show friendliness, empathy, bargain, handle things in a civilized at best non-violent way, but if she runs out of words be aware of her punch
Regina: gives some snarky comments and then rushes to handle things with violent magic, as always
Emma: observes, waits, wonders, thinks but quick on her feet, and then does whatever seems best, run, punch, talk
It was like they set a basic line for everybody in this storm for their time in Neverland. Have seen better action on ships on screen (concerning action acting) but lines were well delivered.
other things:
In the birth scene at the beginning missed some Starfleet-Officer horn in via communicator, telling sorry, can’t be home darling, have to fight and die as hero (remember Star Trek?). Not to mention I very much expected some blue-white light sparkles surrounding baby Henry (Charmed). 😉
All in all a decent episode and start into a new season. Not rekindling my former love of OUaT though. Never had a thing for Peter Pan and Neverland, found that guy always arrogant, just a spoiled charmer, irresponsible and narcissistic, in what ever version, and the story is rather boring, so not so thrilled about taking OUaT to Neverland, but well, we are there now, and they still might tell some good stories.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯
October 2, 2013 at 9:58 am #213506kfchimeraParticipantI agree with you about the Merpeople thing Myrill. Maybe that’s something they’ll address with a future storyline?
Then again, see Tamara and Greg–I absolutely agree the dramatic impact of their sudden violent deaths was undercut by the feeling they were just plot tools to get Henry to NL.
I’d expected them to die, really, but for it to have more impact on the character development of our regular characters in some way. Rumple kills Tamara and you are right, there was no mercy and it was sort of parallel to his killing Milah. I wish they had played it up more really, but not sure how much more.

December 27, 2013 at 5:35 pm #233938elleParticipantI felt that this was a strong opening episode for season 3.
Scenes that I loved–
1). I loved the way Emma talked to her parents–I know it hurt them, but it was necessary. She was right–she is an adult with her own experiences an own knowledge that they have not taken into consideration at times, though I get that it is also hard for them, since they are the parents in this and they cannot help but think they need to still keep teaching her and leading her as though she were inexperienced.
2). Regina was finally tolerable. Season 2 she was wishy washy (as well as her actions being white-washed) we finally don’t get a whiney Regina, though her disbelief over how she did not ruin Snow White’s life annoyed me.
3). I loved the Hook and Emma scenes–I’ve been liking them more and more lately as a ship, and (judging from the later episodes) it seems like the show intends for them to be together.
4). Emma taking charge–finally, finally do we get more Emma time in this show, and she was awesome at it.
5). Henry and Peter Pan–loved their moments, together. I feel like the actors played well off each other.
6). Emma giving birth scene–just loved it. So heartbreaking and just so well-done. I feel like JMO doesn’t get enough credit for her work on the show. I hope we get more past Emma scenes.
Scenes that I didn’t care for–
1). I honestly didn’t care much for Neal as much as a I used to. He’s sort of “meh” for me now.
2). The way Greg died was horrible. I mean he went through so much suffering–he lost his mom, and he saw his father dragged away thanks to Regina. He tries to find his father, only to find out he had died, and then later on find out that everything he had worked for had been a lie. I didn’t;t like him much (and his character did suck out the life out of the show) but I felt that he did not deserve that kind of end.
3). Tamara’s character was wasted–seriously, I was hoping we would get more of her in this series, but instead the writers just quickly get rid of her. And the way Rumple killed her was just disturbing.
