I have to admit this is my least favorite episode so far. But it still had really good moments.
Likes:
-Hook hitting on Emma and Charming being the protective dad
-Emma letting Regina go “dark” and do what it takes to send Henry a message. *It actually kinda made a gasp and then give a whoop! No more goody-two-shoes Emma*
-Regina, Emma and Snow using the mirror as Facetime with Henry, LOL
-Hook and Pan’s interaction, and Hook’s struggle to do the right thing.
-Hook saving David with the “Fountain of Youth” water. The “Oh Bloody Hell”, as he was chopping away at the veins made me laugh, as if he can’t believe he’s going through with saving Charming’s life.
-I like the beginning of Hook’s flashback as a Lieutenant.
-Hook and Emma’s banter then kiss, Ok I admit it was cool (But I’m still a big supporter of Swanfire!)
-Pan telling Hook that Nealfire is alive and on the island. Oooo, will Hook do the honorable thing??? Dum Dum!
-Seeing Neal hung up next to yet another mystery box of the season!
Dislikes:
-Hook’s brother Liam – He’s credibility just flew out the window when he pierced his skin with the Dreamshade. That was just plain dumb.
-Hook and crew suddenly deciding to become pirates all the while totting about “Being honorable” What’s honorable about pillaging and plundering and taking other men’s wives???
-Charming’s stubbornness was getting a little annoying.
-Not enough Neal! 🙁

Hook and Charming bickering.
Peter being creepy, as usual.
Regina continues to try to be evil, while constantly being chided like a disobedient child. I love that. Her intimidation is becoming kind of laughable now. (“Here, kid. I’ve got delicious, delicious chocolate for you…”)
Felix was okay this episode…
Least Favorite:
It is implausible in my opinion that the entirety of the crew instantly agreed to become pirates and go against the king.
The flashback this episode felt the slightest bit lacking. Something just…wasn’t.

Pan is fast becoming the character I LOVE to hate. He such a manipulating, evil boy, and you just wanna KILL him, but he’s SOOOO wonderful in that way…hahaha. It’s great to have a character like that on the show. Nothing is as clear cut or simple with him, and you have NO IDEA what he’ll be up to next.
Least favorite moment: David being stubborn and nasty with Hook. I was like, “Come on, man! Give the pirate a break!” He was so judgmental!

And actually this is the best ep without Rumple & Belle ever. And this is coming from a SF girl. (And yes, Hook & Emma were superhot even so.)
…That said. I’m annoyed that Belle has only been in 2/5 eps so far this season. Really annoyed. Adam keeps promising she’s not forgotten, but he keeps HAVING too because she feels so forgotten.
Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. My spreadsheet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6r8CySCCWd9R0RUNm4xR3RhMEU/view?usp=sharing

Emma facing moral conflict in deciding how far to go to save Henry and ultimately agreeing with Regina taking the Lost Boy’s heart, over Snow’s objection. I think we may see some more conflict there. I also loved Regina’s comment, “You didn’t. I did. That’s why I’m here.”
I think we saw a little of the same theme with Henry when they goaded him into the sword fight. He finally got a real sword, which has been his dream (isn’t it every little boy’s dream?) but he was upset and apologetic when he cut the other boy – until Pan and the others began cheering him. I also liked the drawing of the house which showed he still hasn’t lost hope, despite Pan’s temptations.
I also liked the Hook flashback. Even though I like Colin O’Donoghue’s performance, I’ve never ben a big fan of Hook. I think it was partly the way the character was written and the fact that we never saw a sympathetic backstory for him (until now) like we did for Rumple and Regina. After this episode, I’m starting to understand him and like the character a little more.
Overall, I just liked the theme that so many characters were shown taking a step toward darkness (Emma, Henry, and Hook) and the suggestions of how they will struggle to avoid going too dark. Emma has Snow, Henry has the knowledge that his family is now coming for him and Hook has saved Charming. Well, that ending suggests we will see just how honorable Hook will become. I had been worried that they were going to do a trite, romantic triangle cliche’ with Neal, Emma, and Hook but now I think they are going to make it much less of a cliche and more of a moral test for Hook. I think that makes it much more interesting and prevents me from listing the triangle as my dislike for this episode.
No major dislikes for me.

sometimes a girl has to kiss a few frogs to VALUE the prince that comes her way

But now she can take a heart which is a magical act that enchants the heart (Rumple’s words, not mine. The Doctor) and then proceeded to use the heart to send a message with a MAGIC mirror. Either someone was lying (doubtful) or the writers decided to ignore this.
Pan might not know about it immediately, and once the message is delivered, the goal is accomplished, so maybe it’s okay this time.
I’d like to see the good guys set off magic all over the place, all the time. If they can’t hide their magic from Pan, then they should try overloading his magical sense.
Didn’t CORA AND REGINA use a heart to channel and control someone else… example … AURORA was the mouth piece and later followed Cora;s instructions. .
December 27, 2013 at 6:49 pm #233949elleParticipantAfter Regina and Rumple episodes, I was excited to get back to other characters of the show.
I have to say that this one if probably one of personnel favorite, along with Lost Girl and The Heart of the Truest Believer.
I think Colin o’donoghue shined in this episode–I loved how young and carefree and happy he was in the flashbacks. I wish we had more development for the relationship with his brother, but it still was done decently well.
Scenes I loved–
1). All the flashbacks–like I said above, it was great to see a young Hook with his brother.
2). Pan trying to make a deal with Hook–the way the actors played out that scene was spectacular. I loved how Pan talked to Hook–in a superior, older manner. Hook could barely even look Pan in the eye.
3). Hook and Charming–I love their relationship. They have so much in common, and it was great seeing them. I totally got why Charming was angry and suspicious of Hook, and it was great to see them slowly trust one another.
4). Captain Swan–I really like this ship a lot. I like the chemistry and I like the understanding they have, as well as how Hook cares for Emma. I really hope we get more of them.
5). No Rumple and no Belle–the former has been particularly lagging in these few episodes. Which is ironic, since he told Emma in the beginning of the season that she did not have what it took to find and rescue Henry, and yet she got more done than he did.
I found it to overall be one of the strongest episodes.
