It was the way it came across that I disliked. It’s kind of hard to explain. It seemed like she was so mad at Charming, not so much because he lied to her, but because him being stuck in Neverland prevented her from getting what she wanted. Her reasons for having another baby came across as less about wanting to extend the family and as a bonus getting the chance to be a proper mother second time round, and more about because she didn’t get to raise Emma, she wants a baby to play mom to.

Screwball Ninja wrote another essay on this episode that says it all for me, funnier and better than I ever could.

It’s down her page a bit, not in her essay link list (and they’re all worth reading), but entitled Ariel.
Ever see The Wedding Singer, Made of Honor, Sleepless in Seattle, there is a plot devive so common it has a trope. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DisposableFiance so I strongly disagree that love is “cheapened” by someone who has not yet said their marriage vows realizing they are still in love with someone else, especially after the fiance shot and admitted it was all an elaborate scam to play them for some “sacred” mission against magic. I think it is cheapened by those who say their vows, with no ulterior motive or coercion, then break them (Milah) without any attempt to reconcile seriously first (and who knows, perhaps Milah had been trying we barely see her side of things..).
I think all the characters showed growth and it moves the story along that after such traumatic events they are ALL different, forever changed. They may not have changed in the ways you predicted (perhaps hoped) but they are reacting and emoting based on the crazy situations finally. While there are more things still swept under the rug (hello Hook and Bae and your past issues), I hope these are reserved for future episodes.

I saw it differently. I don’t think Snow was being selfish. I think she was upset because Charming kept a secret – a big one too – from her. He was dying and refused to tell his family (like how many times did Hook talk to him about telling them before it was too late?).
Remember, Hook had to trick David into coming with him otherwise he wouldn’t have gone and Charming would be dead already. That’s how stubborn Charming was being.
I also don’t fault Snow for wanting to have another baby because the curse cheated her and Charming out of raising Emma, watching her grow up and teaching her all the things parents teach their children when they’re little.
The CGI on Lana was Ursula wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
Eric’s a cutie 🙂 Can’t wait to see him again.

"Because... it was born out of true love."November 8, 2013 at 5:22 am #222133PriceofMagicParticipantRead Screwball’s essay particularly the part about Snow’s confession.
I get why Snow would want another child, and she’s probably going to get one, but it’s the way she presented her reasons that I disliked. It was almost like “Emma’s all grown up now so I can’t play mom to her. I know, I’ll have another baby and I can dress it in cute little dresses and make it look all pretty, etc”. Snow’s confession about wanting a new baby immediately made me think of a little girl playing with dolls.
Not to mention how it made Emma feel. For Emma this may feel like history repeating itself. Emma had a family until she was 3, then they sent her back because they had a new baby. Emma’s relationship with her parents is already fragile but when the new baby enters the picture, Emma’s going to feel pushed out. Snow’s going to like the new baby more than Emma because Emma can’t be the daughter Snow wanted, the new baby can.
It would be kinder to Emma if the baby was a boy. If the baby was a girl (and it probably will be), it would seemingly take Emma’s place in Snow’s heart. It would be Emma mark 2.

I love the actress that played Ariel–Joanna Garcia. I found her to be very enjoyable–she got the wide-eyed, curious, sweet, determination of the character just right without going to overboard, and I enjoyed her relationship with Snow White, who I did feel for in this episode–I could understand why she wanted another baby. She was deprived of all those years with Emma–as she put it, she and Charming missed out on those years, and I don’t think it wrong that she wanted them.
I mean, Rumple wanted to turn Bae back to a 14 year old to erase the past, yet Snow gets hated for wanting another baby–this little fact bugs me like heck.
My favorite moments were Hook’s confession, the illusion Belle finally being gone, Peter Pan being evil, manipulative self, Emma’s confession to Neal, all the little nods to the Little Mermaid, and Ariel stabbing Regina in the neck–that last part was just awesome!
The only thing I disliked was Regina pretending to be Ursula–I honestly felt like the whole performance was forced and too cartoony. I guess that was the point–to give a nod to the Ursula in the Disney movie, but it felt out of place overall. I am glad that there is a real Ursula, though, and that Regina is not her.
December 27, 2013 at 7:20 pm #233957PriceofMagicParticipantThe issue wasn’t Snow wanting another baby, the problem was in the way Snow presented it. It basically amounted to Snow wanted another baby to play mommy to because she didn’t get to do that with Emma and now Snow doesn’t get the relationship she wanted with Emma because Emma is all grown up.
