Favorites moments:
Everything with Regina!
I loved Regina in this episode.
Her conversation with Rumple/Mr.Gold (all the times), the adoption of Henry, Regina’s interaction with baby Henry and her learning to be a mom. Her revelation to Emma that no, Emma does not know how she feels because Henry is her everything. The fact that everyone has regrets but Regina does not because it ultimately it led her to her son (her little prince.) How she just freakin’ ripped Henry’s heart out of Pan’s chest (did you see his face, the boy was scared shitless.) Her choice even after knowing and worrying that the curse would eventually break, she chose to stay with Henry because he was her baby. Oh! and finally (before knowing what Pan did) when Rumple tells her that she raised Henry well, that joy in her face, the slight smile on his face… I can’t even! For me it seemed that he was proud of her and that made my night! XD
I also loved that people found out that Pan was Rumple’s dad. They finally saw, if anyone was unlucky in the type of parents they had, Rumple got the worst. And he finally received the hug he so desperately wanted and needed.
Least Favorite:
The end, it is now revealed that Henry is Pan that they switched places. I didn’t like it not because of the story plot but more on that the kid that plays Henry will have to play Pan in Henry’s body, Pan who is very evil and Rumple’s dad. I like the kid and think he is a fantastic actor but it’s not every actor that can pull being Rumple’s dad in a kid’s body. Robbie Kay did such a awesome job and set the bar real high. I just hope it doesn’t last long, that maybe he can pull it off and that I get pleasantly surprised.

First, by far, was seeing Regina break free from the Tree of Regret and take back Henry’s heart. Take that, Pan!
I also liked the scene where Regina told the story to Henry while mixing the potion. I think perhaps those who didn’t like the idea of the potion are seeing it as a plot device (which was admittedly not needed for the plot) but I see it as an important element of character development. Regina didn’t just adopt the son of the Savior by accident, but chose to keep him even after she learned who he was and the risk he posed to her curse. The potion was just a way to prevent her fear of the future from poisoning her relationship with Henry.
Did anybody else notice that baby Henry’s jumper had a picture of a bus on it? A nice reference to Henry’s bus trip to Boston in the pilot!
The reunion of Rumple and Bae was another favorite. With everything else going on, they haven’t had a lot of chances to explore their relationship. I hope we get to see more of it in the future.
Least favorite:
I didn’t have problems with the adoption that some people did (although I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out there is more to it than we were shown) but I do have one problem with Regina’s decision to adopt a child. Didn’t she know that he would be the only child in Storybrooke who would age? Didn’t it occur to her that the kid might some day have questions about that? Until we see otherwise, I’m going to assume that she planned to tell Henry her version of the truth at some point when he was older, but he got the book from Mary Margaret before she could give him “the talk” and once he ID’d her as the Evil Queen, it was too late. Otherwise, it would be really poor planning on her part. I hope they address this in some future episode, but I don’t see how they could do it in a flashback. I would think she would have been peppered with questions about aging from a seven or eight year old Henry, but obviously Jared Gilmore can’t play that part anymore and I doubt they could find a kid the right age who would resemble him enough to pull it off. But I would settle for just hearing Regina reminisce about her plan, perhaps in a future conversation with Henry.

The Rumple/Bae reunion- I would like more of this please! Neal was great this episode.
Felix- His loyalty to Pan is unwavering. Felix is the guy you want on your team. I liked how Hook forced him to sit back down.
The Regina/Gold interactions- I don’t think Gold had his memories but it was clear Rumple was lying just beneath the surface.
Regina learning to parent Henry- I liked how she had to learn rather than being “naturally great” at it.
Regina getting the better of Pan- It throws up the question “Does the end justify the means?”
Pan acknowledging and thanking Felix for his loyalty.
Disliked:
How seemingly easy it was for Regina to adopt Henry- Surely she should’ve had to jump through a few more hoops. The adoption guy hadn’t even heard of Storybrooke, how did he know whether it was real or not?
Whale’s hair- I thought he prescribed “maternal love” rather than “merlotte”?
Snow holding Henry and he suddenly stops crying- it just seemed a bit too cliché.
How easily the other lost boys turned on Pan- I want to know what Emma plans to do with them when they reach Storybrooke. She played on their desires to have a mother, yet she’s not going to be able to deliver on that.
Henry not shouting for help the moment Pan appeared in his room or attempting to escape- Henry could’ve at least tried.
Henry as Pan- I like the idea but Jared hasn’t got the Pan mannerisms and the difference between the two is a bit jarring. We’re not seeing Pan in Henry’s body, we’re seeing Jared trying to play Pan in Henry’s body.
All magic comes with a price!

We have a discussion of this going on over in the “Henry’s adoption” thread. I’m guessing Gold greased the wheels for the adoption, but that’s just my idea.

Neil hugging Gold and calling him Papa and telling him that he is nothing like Pan because he came back for him.
Emma admitting to Regina that she doesn’t know how she feels.
Gold commending Regina for raising Henry to be a fine young man.
The interaction between Tinkerbell and Regina on the ship. I think the pixie dust started to work because Tinkerbell realized she accomplished what she set out to do with Regina in the first place which was to help her find love. It was just a different kind of love.
Regina calling Henry her little Prince.
Regina asking baby Henry to give her a chance.

Henry/Pan switcheroo. I was hoping we were finally done with Pan and Neverland.
The adoption was a little to easy. They should have asked to see where Regina lived, to visit her home and monitor her. Did she cast a spell on the adoption agency when she got to Boston so they wouldn’t ask a lot of questions?
I feel like some things were left out like what happened to Gold’s shadow and dagger now that they are leaving Neverland and did Mary Margaret and David grab some of the island’s water to preserve David until Gold finds a permanent cure for him?

Having now watched the ep twice, the adoption scenes an extra time, and having thought it through long and hard while typing and re-typing a response to a post from timespacer over in the adoption thread, I’ve ended up concluding that Mr Gold fixed it so that in the system, it looked like Regina’s application had been approved two years ago, and she just happened to be next on the waiting list when Henry’s previous family backed out. If so, then it would explain why this guy wasn’t bothered by not knowing that SB existed, because he’s under the impression that another part of the agency checked all of Regina’s info out and verified it ages ago.

On the surface of it, it sorta comes across as one of those moments that many people interpret as the show being pro bio-family. But I think the actual point was that MM was all chill and calm, unlike Regina who was completely unsure and stressed out. Babies can pick up on other people’s emotions, and will respond instinctively, so he was calm with calm MM, and stressed with stressed Regina.

I do think that’s the overall reason for why Henry stopped crying with MM, but it’s not going to help those accusations hurled at A and E about being anti-adoption.

.Yes. Which was not the most brilliant idea, as we can see now.

I forgot to include those two in my post but they are on my list, too (especially since Regina repeated the “prince” line aboard the Jolly Roger.) Wretchedly sentimental of me, but once in a while… I get that way (Or should I say, “Once Upon a Time…”?)

Loved all the conversations on the ship after they saved Henry- Bae accepting Rumple! Tink and Regina!
I was actually cheering on Regina at one point.
It was fun seeing Regina’s early attempts to be a mother.
Gold and Regina- always fun to watch together
Dislikes:
I wish the adoption story had been more interesting- it was way too easy!
I thought Pandora’s box was a fate worse than death! Rumple did not seem to be affected by it at all. He was even in the same pose. What happened to all the world’s evils?
Overall, another great season 3 ep, but I’m so ready for next week and the return of RumBelle! 🙂
I don’t see how anyone can say the show is anti-adoption after this episode! It was a big old love letter to it! Henry didn’t calm down for Mary Margaret because they are related…he calmed down because she is Snow White. She just naturally has that effect.
