This isn’t about Shipping neither…this is saying goodbye to two of the most awesome characters on television….
I just lost Katherine Pierce on Vampire Diaries three weeks ago…a woman who’s true love died, had her daughter ripped from her arms at birth, and had to manipulate, betray, and kill to survive as she ran from her enemies for more than 500 years. Finally one day, she has her daughter back, but her daughter is killed a month later, and she dies(killed by second true love) five minutes later…. and did I mention that the other side wouldn’t accept her because she apparently did too much badness to get in, so she was dragged away by an unforeseen force in the shadows where she has to spend eternity away from her daughter. RIP Katherine Pierce

I have now lost Neal…A man who grew up with a wonderful father, his mother abandoned him, but his father did the best he could with what he had. His father eventually succumbed to darkness, and changed which led to Neal going to another world because his father couldn’t let go of power. 300 plus years go by, he falls in love with a woman, but has to leave her. 11 years go by and the same woman, father, and his new son arrive. Just when things start going better for him…he’s shot and taken away from his family. He finds said family, but has to say goodbye again due to Pan’s Curse. Year go by, and he dies in his true love’s arms with his father beside him, and his son doesn’t remember him….RIP Neal Cassady

The death itself was wonderfully acted, yes, but I could not shake how horrible it was. Neal didn’t deserve to be killed off as an after thought on the bed of a forest, with a hurriedly placed “I want you to be happy even if it isn’t with me” beforehand. I’m used to character death from everything else I watch, but this was not the way to do it.
What was even the point of killing Neal off? He lived a terrible, rough life, and now cannot even move on to his happy ending. Emma has lost her true love. Her happy ending is probably wrecked. Rumpel’s happy ending is wrecked. I mean, come on. He wanted to commit suicide for an entire half of a season when he thought Bae was dead out of sight. Now he’s watched the light leave his son’s eyes, and for what? So Rumpel could say “Zelena” and move the plot forward? Because Rumpel is bound to be on the death train after this, Belle’s happy ending is wrecked, too. Also, when Henry gets his memories, who knows how he’ll react to losing the father he was just learning to love. It seems strange to screw so many lives for a twist that didn’t feel like it belonged there.
They couldn’t so much as push in some sort of memory potion stuff to let Henry at least see his dad again? There’s already been terrible writing to bring back the blue fairy of all people.
I guess it’s just the fact that this death was so poorly executed. The scene was fantastic! The episode was great! But this scene shouldn’t have existed in this episode, in my opinion. It was just a poor way to send Neal off. Even if speculation is true, and MRJ was the actor who was displeased and wanted to leave, this wasn’t the best way to go about things. I mean, Nealfire’s abandonment is the reason this show exists. Rumpel’s strive to get him back set EVERYTHING in motion. They could have paid more heed to that, and done better.
What I liked: I liked everything but Neal’s death, surprisingly. Even overly naive Snow got a laugh out of me. It was one of the better episodes.

I loved seeing him reconcile with Rumple and get to know Henry. I wanted to see him get his happy ending as much as any of you. I’m heartbroken. However, if the death had to be Neal, at least he died a hero in the arms of Emma and Rumple. I liked how they showed he was a lot like his father and made a dangerous choice. I think his death was done in the best possible way.

I am sorry to say this but I found the episode rushed and kind of lacking, considering it was the death of a major character. Baelfire was a major character, for crying out loud he was the main reason the curse was done in the first place. I don’t even want to mention the acting. I saw bad acting in this one which was pretty surprising considering Robert Carlyle is an amazing actor but even his acting was lacking here, I won’t even mention Jennifer Morrison’s acting or Michael’s. Don’t get me started on the writing. I mostly blame the writers because the actors only portray what they they are give.
I love this show so much that this really hurts, but I won’t blind myself on this. I have to say that my sister is not as great a fan of this show but I make her watch it but after tonight she says she’s done. I’ll probably get her to watch it again but I am pretty borderline myself. I feel they just sent Rumple’s story down the pooper to say the truth. They better not do the same to Regina’s because I will be done.
Again no offense intended to anyone just straight what I am feeling. Personal feelings here and no amount of defense will change mind.

Worst moment the obvious one
March 31, 2014 at 5:01 am #257201shack1212ParticipantI liked
– The Regina/Hood scenes
– Everything after Neal’s death with people reacting, sweeping score, etc. Best scene of the episode was Emma/Henry scene at the end
– Lumiere
I didn’t like
– Almost everything else. Just didn’t like how sloppy the plot leading to his death was, Zelena wasn’t as well written as normal, a little too much melodrama. Some Neal/Emma and Neal/Hook scenes that were good, could’ve been gold.
This had the same writer as Selfless, Brave & True and boy did it show. Not saying she’s worthless, she’s done some episodes I like such as Lost Girl and Tiny, but if she botched it the first time why give her another one? Anyways Once is about as consistent I’ve seen a 22 episode show be, but they still have 3 or 4 a year that are just OK and this was one of them.
March 31, 2014 at 5:25 am #257202OnyxParticipantWhat I liked was that they finally touched upon the Bae/Hook relationship. Felt like they should’ve done that a long long time ago. We haven’t seen Hook this sincere around anyone other than Emma. Too bad it was so brief though.
I also liked Regina’s scenes. I always like Regina’s scenes actually. She’s steady and strong, even with Henry not remembering her, she keeps focus. I love her determination to kick some Wicked booty and I’m counting on her to do just that.
What I didn’t like was Neal’s death obviously. The guy has been through hell and back and this is how it ends for him?

Least fave: GET YOUR HANDS OFF THAT BELLY YOU CRAZY WITCH SNOW DO YOU NOT HAVE AN OUNCE OF COMMON SENSE WHY DO YOU LET THE WITCH CONSTANTLY TOUCH YOU

Hook apologizes to Belle- Finally! I liked the Belle and Hook snark to each other and the fact Belle wasn’t so forgiving of Hook.Rumple- Great acting from Robert Carlyle this episode. His “oh Bae” at the end of the episode was simply heartbreaking.
The CaptainFire moment- Hook actually acknowledging they’d been silly fighting over a woman.
The charmings find out about Zelena- About time!
Belle- I liked how Belle figured out Lumiere was lying and was willing not to bring Rumple back because he’d be used for evil.
Neal actually bringing up Tamara and laughing about how Emma was about to marry a flying monkey- This was a good scene between Emma and Neal. You get the sense that even if they weren’t together romantically, they would have worked together to parent Henry.
Least favourite
The CGI showing Neal and Rumple switching bodies- It looked kind of freaky.
Neal’s death- It was a crappy way for him to die without Henry remembering.
Neal telling Emma to find Tallahassee with someone else- It was a nice scene but it seemed a bit of a quick turnaround for Neal to go from “I’ll never stop fighting for you” and “I’ll see both of you again” to “Go find Tallahassee without me”
Rumple being forced to leave Neal’s body in the woods- Zelena is such a bitch.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixMarch 31, 2014 at 6:19 am #257211shack1212ParticipantThe more I think of it the more I am ok with this episode and Neal’s death.
Honestly though, the price Neal paid in his life is disproportionate to the mistakes he made. Yes he made a major mistake in not going back for Emma/Henry, but compared to the stuff Regina, Rumple, etc. have done, or even Snow White with the Cora heart thing, getting punished to the point of dieing without his son even knowing who he is, is a rough shake. Still, I guess that’s just how it works sometimes. Regina and Rumple’s mistakes end up getting paid for by someone else.
Also the more I thought of it the more Neal putting the key in was a big, selfish mistake. His sacrifice at the end with Emma and Rumple is a real one and a hero’s move. But putting the key in actually wasn’t. Neal wasn’t doing it to save Rumplestiltskin, who he talked about ambivalently throughout the episode (still not totally forgiving him). What Neal wanted was HENRY. And not to save Henry from anything, since at the time Henry was supposed to living a happy as it gets New York life. Neal wanted to interject himself in Emma and Henry’s life again and to get to be a father. And in the process he could very well endanger Henry by possibly giving The Dark One to Zelena, then trying to use the Dark One to transport, then going back to NY… which in other words could bring Zelena to NY… and put Henry in trouble in various ways. Along with put everyone else in danger by giving Zelena possible unlimited power in EF. To me all this is pretty selfish and a Regina and Rumplestiltskin like mistake. Neal rushing to put that key in after knowing it was a trap by Zelena was not an act of heroism, it was an act of stupidity and he paid for it. To me making him flawed at the end, makes Neal’s death more interesting.
