Well, if we’re worried about A&E making Rumbelle awful…look what they did to OQ. (And, for some of us, CS.) It…could happen. That’s why I’m afraid to be excited for this even though OMG BELLE.
However, yeah, we need context. There was some suggestion that Belle could have a dream sequence–and she’s wearing a scarf with daggers on it, for heaven’s sake. And the ax (which may make sense to fight an ice queen–how will you get in with just a dagger, which is Belle’s ordinary go-to weapon) was in her dream sequence in 204, too.
So this COULD be a dream.
But if it’s bad enough that she can’t confide in Rumple, whatever happened must be pretty bad. Or possibly telling is the thing that will put him or someone else in danger.
As for Rumple’s hesitancy–well, he’s always been reluctant to help out if there’s nothing in it for him, no matter who is asking. He is a bit of a greedy imp, even if ultimately he’s driven by love. Belle’s given him no justification here, just a “I’m going so help me or I’ll make you.” His reaction feels perfectly IC.
Belle’s may be, too, once we know what the secret is and why it’s so important to her.

October 31, 2014 at 7:27 pm #288358KebParticipantAlso, wild wild wild guess here…but I’m betting Hook may be setting Belle & Rumple up here. He’s the only one who knows about the dagger, and yeah, he’s being good for Emma, but he’s still Hook–and he’ll still swap sides if something’s in it for him. If he finds out somehow about Belle’s past or finds a way to remind her of it, he’d probably suggest taking the Dark One along…

I thought he might be rejecting her pleas for help because he doesn’t want the Snow Queen spilling any secrets to Belle. They do know each other after all (the SQ has connections to both Belle and Rumple), and I’m guessing whatever lies in their collective past is something that would not go down well with Belle (especially if the secret involves the death of her mother!).

"there’s lesbians in it"October 31, 2014 at 7:46 pm #288363KebParticipantOh, yes, he’s got LOTS of reasons for her not to chase after DQ. We know DQ has something he wants, and that she has some kind of history with him. But he’s also accurate about her being potentially dangerous–just last episode she made moves that plausibly threatened both Emma’s and Regina’s lives, and they didn’t win without Elsa’s help. Rumple knows a lot more about DQ than we do, so it’s quite plausible that she’d hurt Belle if she had reason to.

She’d be pretty stupid to do something like that! And surely she would know it too, being an acquaintance of the Dark One and all.

Yeah, I think she just kind of sees people as nuisances, but when they’re out of her way she doesn’t care. She’s not actively gone after anyone yet, with the exception of Marian who she was just using as a prop in her plan to frame Elsa, and Emma who she just stalked for a few minutes. She didn’t really care that Regina and Emma left alive, because they’re of no consequence to her as long as they aren’t messing her plans up.
She seems like quite a complicated character, even if her ‘I want a family’ thing is actually a really simplistic and basic desire. Elizabeth Mitchell is really making the character her own, owning every scene she’s in, and I think at least 75% of the character’s appeal is down to her acting (10% writing, 15% wardrobe!) 😛

Can’t wait to see how this is going to play out.

I don’t know.. The Press Release gave me the impression that she’s doing this for real..

Agreed. Besides, Rumple isn’t necessarily refusing to help her. He just doesn’t want to take her to the Snow Queen. Obviously he thinks it’s too dangerous, and it may very well be true. Robert did say in an interview that Rumple and the SQ are “very dangerous to each other and maybe slightly afraid of each other”. Why would he want to take Belle to someone he thinks is too dangerous? Maybe he can help her in some other way?

I like to consider her Diet Cora, because she’s kind of like Cora in terms of how she seems nice at first but has a heart of Ice (Pun intended) but still you can’t beat Cora.
