Why did they cut that scene? It answers so many questions like “did Regina know that a stranger came to town in 2011?” Yes. Also it answers the question of “how did Ingrid take teenage Emma’s memories in A Land Without Magic?” Answer: she brought the magic rocks with her from Arendelle (how convenient). Without these little, yet oh-so-important scenes, the plot holes are glaringly obvious.

WORD. Big mistake cutting this one, which I guess is why they showed it now.

Yeah this scene was incredibly helpful

I’ve always suspected that the writers don’t always necessarily overlook or forget certain things, but instead episodes can fall victim to the dreaded 42 minute time restraint. And I know the deleted scenes we actually get on the DVD/BDs aren’t the only deleted scenes, as filming photos and leaked scripts are proof that there are several we haven’t seen and likely never will. Now I understand as someone who has experience with video editing that finding which scenes to keep and which scenes to remove can be an easier said than done process. That’s not to say that they still shouldn’t make a better judgement on which material is the most vital to keep intact.

I’ve been trying to figure out what could have been cut. The Hook and Will exchange should have been left on the floor. It was just the standard “Michael Soccha appearance because we made him a regular and need to fulfill certain contractual obligations” but it added absolutely nothing to the episode.

Do A&E oversee every editing of each episode, or do they simply rely on an editing team who may not have seen every episode? If they do it themselves, then they simply must not care about the show anymore. If not, they absolutely need to find a new editing team. There is a surprising lack of continuity, which could also come down to the writing team. For instance, Ingrid didn’t age in SB yet Henry did? Ingrid should’ve aged in SB since she wasn’t cursed!
Also, did the editing team really need the opening scene with the fake fortune teller? I don’t think so, since it seemed like an unnecessary scene. I think if they’d scrapped that scene in favor of the scene between Ingrid and Regina, it would’ve just as easily have shown that magic didn’t exist in this world in 2011, and it would’ve established that Ingrid brought magic rocks with her from her world. Instead, by leaving it out, they left a lot of gaps, and room for very valid criticism, since it seemed like Ingrid used magic she created in A Land Without Magic. And without this explanation of where the magic came from, it’s a hot mess of confusion for viewers who don’t bother to watch cut scenes on GMA or online.

Typically the producers are in the editing room directing the editor. Even if Adam and Eddy aren’t always in there for the full editing process, they still have the final approval for the final cut of the episode. Some scenes are actually cut before they even get to film them, too. I also blame the rushed production aspect of the show. These episodes are only filmed a month before they air, and the writers are busy writing other episodes as Production and Post-Production take place for the earlier episodes. I still have a theory that the reason 408 got extended into a 2 hour episode was because there was too much material that they didn’t want to leave on the cutting room floor, and ABC saw that there was enough room in the schedule to do so. Especially since 408 was the last episode to air before the Thanksgiving hiatus, so ABC saw it as a marketing thing.

No idea.
