I still believe there’s good in Rumple too. I think he’s actually being NICE to Hook…given the situation and the fact that it’s basically the man he has the most hatred for.
Ummm, no. Rumple made Hook his lackey by making him do all his dirty work. Having said that, Hook really should’ve known better than to blackmail Rumple.

Taking someone heart, threatening their GF, and telling them that they are going to die soon enough…that’s being nice?

“Nice” is a relative term when it comes to villains. Rumple hasn’t crushed Hook’s heart. He hasn’t turned him into a statue and bashed his face in. He hasn’t stabbed him in the back with a dagger. He hasn’t turned him into a cockroach and ground him into the ground.
So, relatively speaking, Rumple has been nice to Hook.

Sorry, no. you don’t get a cookie for not killing someone. I’m not going to hold “villains” to different moralistic standards when it comes to basic : “do not kill”
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 9, 2014 at 10:02 pm #292655KebParticipantI’m saying he’s being nicer than Zelena was to him (which is relevant because someone said he’s reliving his trauma with her and it’s…not quite that), and a tiny bit nicer than could be expected from Rumple given how we’ve seen him treat Hook in the past and how we’ve seen him treat other people. He’s not being nice in any objective sense whatsoever, and he is getting sadistic pleasure from the fact that he gets to destroy the man he most hates to get his ultimate power–Christmas came early for Rumple (at least, that’s what he thinks atm).
At the same time…the fact that he was willing to reassure Hook even slightly that Emma would probably be safe from him…it was a bit of his human side peeking out from under all the darkness. It’s still there and that’s what I’m clinging to. Rather desperately.

Actually, I think this is similar to the the hand situation all over again. Rumple does have Hook’s heart and could theoretically kill him at the drop of a hat or puppet him like Cora did to Aurora. However, we have not actually seen Rumple do that to Hook. Hook is CHOOSING to do all these bad deeds for Rumple because he THINKS Rumple is controlling him, much like he thought the hand was acting of its own accord when it was really himself. Rumple has admitted to Hook that he’s going to kill him anyway regardless, so why is Hook doing what Rumple wants when Rumple isn’t literally using his heart to control him therefore Hook could refuse.

Except he’s carrying Hook’s heart around in a bag, patting it, telling him to “sit” whilst having his heart, ect.

Yes, but he’s not actively controlling Hook with the heart unlike what Cora did to Aurora or what Regina did to Graham in the Storybrooke flashbacks. Rumple isn’t actively puppeting Hook, he’s just constantly reminding him that he has his heart, which would play into Hook’s belief that he’s being controlled. Unless Rumple is actually holding Hook’s heart and commanding him, Hook can still refuse Rumple’s demands. Also, since Rumple told Hook that he was going to kill him anyway, it’s not like the threat of death if he didn’t comply would keep Hook in line.

He still has the tape blackmail, plus he could threaten to suck Emma into the hat again. Rumple wouldn’t let him just disobey him that easily. Plus, crushing the heart isn’t the only thing Rumple can do. He can simply squeeze on the heart to hurt Hook enough to get him to comply.
December 10, 2014 at 6:06 pm #292699KebParticipantI think Rumple’s given Hook more free will than we’ve seen others give their heart-slaves, but Hook is definitely not doing Rumple’s bidding willingly. And, he’s the Dark One; he may not have to be holding the heart in his hand to use its power. Having it in his possession may be sufficient.
Hook is not blameless for everything (and his recent attempts to blackmail Rumple probably increased Rumple’s desire to toy with/kill him), but the attempted kidnap of Henry and the massacre of the fairies was not his fault. And while obviously Hook does not want what Rumple’s doing to happen, I think on some level he recognizes that there are times in his life when he would’ve done something similar. Like when he tried to kill Black Beard, condemning Eric in the process. You know, like six months ago.
