True, but both Once and Wicked were going off the (fabulous) Oz books’ illustrations, which decked out various persons in Oz in similar costuming. (The 1939 movie obviously was going from the same source material and has also influenced later interpretations. And for bonus Oz fun, Baum himself created at least four films during his lifetime–late 19teens–of his Oz series.) I saw the uniform and immediately said, that’s Oz! It’s more than just Wicked. The original books by Baum were all lavishly illustrated (John R. Niell did most of the series, though the first book was originally illustrated by W.W. Denslow and they had very different concepts of what Dorothy herself looked like), and in places the illustrations and text referenced one another in a way that you don’t see often in modern texts.
Wow! These are amazing! OK, I am absolutely convinced now that this is Oz, and not just recycling a costume from (F)London.

I didn’t get that Robin’s motivation was meant to be for a girl? Rumple gave him gold straw (which, shouldn’t that be gold thread, not straw?) after alluding to the tax notice on the door that would put him out of business. And with Robin mentioning Nottingham having been there scaring everyone off, I’d assume that this happens after Marian’s left him to be with Robin, probably also after they’re married, which is why Nottingham’s trying to put Robin out of business, because revenge.

Anyway, it definitely feels pre-Lacey.

I have to agree here. Robin even says that he is not a thief any longer–he’s obviously trying to be a respectable man, which likely means that this is post-Lacey

I don’t know about Post Lacey…this could probably be after Robin Hood had already met Marian, and is trying to show her that he is a decent fellow, hence no more thieving.

April 8, 2015 at 12:15 pm #301021PanTheManParticipantJust thought of something.
Robin owns a tavern. Could this be the same tavern that Tink led Regina to for her soul mate? I think that’s a strong possibility.
Rumple is interfering with Robin Hood’s life – possibly because he doesn’t want him and Regina falling in love, ruining his chances of Regina casting the curse. Maybe he even brought in the Author to help him change Regina’s story, thus alternate page 23 from the book.
If all this is true, it definitely makes me think that this is pre Lacy.
If Robin Hood’s motivations are a girl, then it could possibly be Regina, but if that’s true, there would have to be some memory forgetting spells, probably the Author’s involvement, and maybe a face changing spell for Robin because they want to explain the different actor in “Lacy.”
I’m wondering if we’re going to see Rumple actively trying to separate Regina and Robin. He could be trying to keep them from meeting (he would despise tink like all fairies for helping regina find Robin) or possibly tear them apart after they’ve met as depicted in alternate page 23.
Is page 23 an Alternate Universe, or is it something that happened in the past and somehow between Rumple and the Author’s involvement, they made it appear as though it never happened?
Thoughts?
April 8, 2015 at 12:40 pm #301022TheWatcherParticipantWhat if Rumpel is lying. What if the elixir doesn’t mend broken hearts but causes them, mentally and physically. He’s trying to get robin to get it for him so that he can split up he and Regina and succeeds and in present day Zelena uses it on Rumpel and now he is dying.

I think it depends on how much sway the Author has on the storybook. We’ve only seen him giving Snow and David a nudge, but the Apprentice made it seem like the Author MADE him do something. If the Author can only influence the story through direct contact with the characters, I am of the thought that page 23 is an AU.
If the Author can actually write things into truth, I think page 23 actually happened, and the Author changed the story to make it more compelling. But is that possible? Is that time travel?
Now who gave Robin the page is another mystery.
I do think Rumple knows who the Author is. In Storybrooke he only seems to be at a loss as to where the author is, not who he is. So I can totally buy Rumple interfering with Regina and Robin’s life. But that opens up questions about Rumple’s interactions with Robin in Lacey.

Man steals a purse from a couple in Manhattan and the wife’s husband steals a horse which he then used to chases after said thug through the streets. Only in New York.
At least we know why New York. Neal used to live there and apparently, he didn’t pay rent on his apartment, so anyone who has the keys just live there. Which I find incredibly unbelievable. You need a job in New York to pay rent. It’s expensive. My brother used to live in Brooklyn. Now, he’s in L.A, where they have rent control.
