From what I gather, what is happening with this AU is that the past isn’t technically changed, but rather personalities and memories are suddenly changed. Isaac is starting this new story from a clean slate with the characters he is writing about. After all, this is a new book entirely entitled “Heroes and Villains”, rather than altering the original “Once Upon a Time” book.
I also mentioned how this would also explain why Henry’s birth isn’t retconned, if the past isn’t literally altered to make this AU work.
That’s an interesting theory, but I don’t think that is what will happen. Based on the threat Regina made against Zelena, she said she would have Isaac simply write her out of the story, so it’d be as if she never even existed. I don’t just think that’s memory erasure. It sounds like total retconning of the original story. To write out Zelena is to erase her character entirely.

I actually saw a very similar idea to mine done in an episode of the Aladdin TV series. Sadira, a sand witch who has the hots for Aladdin, uses her magic to switch lives with Jasmine. The spell doesn’t actually change the past, but alters everyone’s memories and personalities. So Sadira is now the princess living in the palace, and Jasmine is a streetrat. However, she forgets to alter the memories of the animals (Abu, Iago, and Raja), so it ends up being up to them to try and fix everything. With their help, Aladdin and Jasmine do end up crossing paths, and their connection via true love breaks Sadira’s spell.
The core idea seems similar to my theory for the OUAT Season 4 finale, except it’s swapping all the heroes and villains.

I agree. Isaac can’t go back and change the past, he has limitations. What he does is change their current situation. All memories of the past are wiped clean with new ones replacing them. With Zelena being written out of the story, it would be as though she never existed nor would anyone remember that she did. Isaac can’t bring back the dead but he can certainly leave people out in present.

I wonder if Henry is going to partner up with Rumple, since Rumple is now a hero, and together they’ll put everything right? There could be some heartbreaking scenes if HeroRumple realises that fixing things would make him a villain and destroy his relationship with Belle but he does so anyway because fixing things is the right thing to do.

Thats a good question. This is Rumple’s Happy Ending story, so you would assume she would get the shaft, but she is a villain so she might get to meet Cora? She can’t become Regina because that’s what Snow is going to become.

I assume Zelena (if she’s in the finale at all. She might just be “off stage”) gets to be a family with Cora and Regina–a loving family

I usually dont write outside one specific thread, but i see some contradictions here, like example isnt Cora dead? And didnt some of you said that the writer cant bring back the dead and change the past? If Cora is on the epi, even if she is not onscreen, but just mentioned like being at home, or something, isnt that contradiction, so what? Cora can be on the AU, bc is not a real thing since is an AU, but Bae cant be( like example as Rumbelle son, or even that rumple had 1st wife that died when the baby was born, and belle takes care of him) bc he is dead and the writer doesnt change the past and cant bring back the dead?So in order not to be a major contradiction Cora needs to be dead as well.

Cora is still needed for Regina to be alive so the Author would naturally write her in.
Bae isn’t needed for Rumple’s literal existence (his metaphorical one, yes but that’s another matter) so the Author can easily forgo including him in his fanfic.
