Or off to slay Emma.
That was my thought. I swear if they make Belle ‘feminine’ in this AU I will throw my computer across the room.

I am already expecting it. She will be pretty little house wife, who sits at home and cooks and cleans, and reads her books, with no want to see the great wide open of the world, or go on adventures.
If this is what Rump wants her to be in his HE, I don’t know how to feel. I’d have much rather preferred she was his…Assistant Knight. (Knight-ess? Is there a name for female knights?) Like, okay, maybe he woldnt want Belle out there fighting ogres and such with him, but she could be his companion wife, always there with her books and things, ready to help out with information, battling from the sidelines.
Why am I not writing this show.

She could be the Hermoine to his Harry…or something.

This has probably been pointed out before but both of Rumple’s wives have had this common sense of adventure. Of wanting to see the world. This might lead him to erasing that trait in Belle in the AU, but I hope not. There has to be a reason why he is drawn to the same type of woman. Even Cora had a drive for more.

THIS. On all fronts. The problem though is that on OUAT, for all its “strong female character” mojo, long-running female characters gravitate towards one of three possibilities: “dude in a skirt;” “mother;” and “eye candy”. The latter can take the shape of “demure” or “vixen” (Belle has managed to be both).
Oh, and Mother Superior. Not sure how to qualify Blue (other than shady).
(I suppose if I want complex female characters, I should go watch The Good Wife, but still, one can hope)

Given the little we saw of her in the promo, that’s what I’m expecting as well. It’s…yeah…bothersome. Rumple’s HEA is that he gets to go be a hero and go on quests and be a knight and come home to a devoted Belle.

I can’t say I’m surprised about this because Rumple has always been like this, to a degree. He looks down on women who show even the tiniest bit of power over him. He wanted Milah to stay at home and be a mother to Bae and totally ignored what she wanted, which was to start over fresh. As much as Rumple loves Belle, he knows he can’t have this perfect happily ever after with her as she is now. He needs her to be subservient and basically his yes woman in order for this fantasy to work.
He could be the hero in this universe but probably still do questionable stuff in order to accomplish his goals and in order for Belle to overlook that, he needs her to be this perfect image of a doting and loving wife. Basically, a medieval version of a Stepford wife.
And for someone who’s lived about 300 years, Rumple has the poorest understanding of human behavior. Ever. Everything is going to be so black and white in terms of what makes a hero and what makes a villain.
But as Cruella said when Mal came back,
“It’s going to be entertaining.”

How come both of Belle’s adventures, going to Arandelle and Mulan’s homeland, seem to have come before and after Rumple? That says a lot right there.

I disagree. Rumple has never looked down on women. In fact, considering the women Rumple has been in a relationship with, it seems Rumple prefers brown haired, intelligent, strong willed, determined, defiant women rather than meek airheads who do as they’re told.
He wanted Milah to stay at home and be a mother to Bae and totally ignored what she wanted, which was to start over fresh.
Rumple and Milah were shunned by the rest of the village because of Rumple’s reputation. They had a young son and Rumple still had to go out and work in order to provide for his family. Did he want Milah to stay home and be a mother to Bae? Probably, because the alternative was that Bae would be left home alone unsupervised and uncared for until Rumple got home. And that is exactly what happened. Did Milah care about what Rumple wanted? No, she couldn’t give a damn.
As for the whole moving away and starting afresh, that was exactly what Rumple wanted to do with his father and look how that turned out. It’s no wonder Rumple was reluctant, same with the bean portal. Rumple feared history would repeat itself.
The whole Rumple/Milah marriage began falling apart the moment he returned from the ogre war. They stayed together for the sake of Bae but they knew their marriage was failing so both were unwilling to make compromises for the other because they knew sooner or later it would go belly up and neither wanted to be in a position where they’d be worse off.
As much as Rumple loves Belle, he knows he can’t have this perfect happily ever after with her as she is now. He needs her to be subservient and basically his yes woman in order for this fantasy to work.
I strongly disagree. Rumple is in awe of Belle, he loves her just the way she is. When Belle was Lacey, and was seemingly more in line with Rumple’s dark nature “his yes woman”, it was Belle he wanted.
The thing with Rumple is he wants his loved ones to be safe, and for him “safe” is as far away from danger as possible. He doesn’t want Belle to be subservient, he’d be heart broken if she was ever like that because that would mean her spirit was broken.
Also, since when is being a housewife the same as being “subservient” and a husband’s “yes woman”? Many women choose to stay at home whilst their husbands work for practical reasons, that doesn’t make them subservient. We don’t even know if Belle is a “housewife” in this AU. All we’ve seen is a few seconds long clip of Belle and Rumple in their home.
All magic comes with a price!
