I really enjoyed this episode.
Favourite:
will Scarlet- He added some humour, something which season 3 lacked for the most parts.
Robin, Marian and Roland playing happy families- That was a nice moment and another reason why Robin and Marian should end up together.
Hook on the cellphone- Hook trying to get to grips with modern technology is always fun and it’s nice to see Hook when he isn’t constantly fawning over Emma.
Hook makes a deal with Rumple- I was nervous about how the whole blackmail plot would go since Rumple is one of my favourites but I like how it was dealt with here. Hook made a deal with Rumple for his silence so now Hook isn’t allowed to say anything about the dagger. I got the sense that Hook and Rumple now have a grudging respect for each other even if they don’t like each other. I do question why Rumple put himself in the situation he has, Belle offered to give him the real dagger but he chose to give it to her instead. Why create a problem for himself when he could’ve just accepted the dagger and then wouldn’t be lying to Belle?
Charming tackles Will- That was a brilliant tackle by Charming.
No Anna- Anna annoyed me last week so it was nice to have an episode without her especially as they seem to be characterising her as practically perfect in every way and the only reason the characters we love are like they are is because they met Anna. Anna is too Mary-Sue for my tastes.
Kristoff and Sven- I like Kristoff and Sven the most out of the Frozen characters. It’s a shame they’re not in Storybrooke then we could’ve at least got some Kristoff/David friendship moments.
Hans correcting Kristoff- It made me chuckle because “left her to die” is obviously so much better than “tried to kill her” lol.
The Neal references- We got not one, not two, but three Neal references this episode and I think it’s nice to show that the characters actually haven’t forgotten him even if they don’t mention him every single episode. Would’ve been nice to hear Henry mention Neal though.
Least favourite:
Not enough Belle- We need more Belle. If only to see the RumBelle happy moments before it all goes to hell.
Operation Mongoose- First of all, it’s a stupid name. Secondly, it feels like Regina chose it just to have a jab at the Emma/Henry operation cobra in season 1 since in nature mongooses kill snakes including cobras. Thirdly Regina’s logic is seriously flawed. The book didn’t write Regina as a villain, it has not presented her wrong. It just documented her misdeeds. Slaughtering villages and sending innocent children into a cannibal witch’s house are quite villainous things to do. The book didn’t make Regina do those things, Regina did them by herself. Once again Regina is blaming others for her own actions rather than taking responsibility for them.
Robin’s kiss not working- It was a cruel way to try and push OQ especially Robin declaring his love for another when Marian was lying beside him still alive. Also, “act of true love” shouldn’t be boiled down solely to TLK. Robin does still love Marian since he didn’t just give her the brush off but chose to be with her. He may not love her in a romantic sense necessarily but he truly loves her in the way that he cares about her and doesn’t want to lose her again.
Henry taking so long to return from Regina’s vault- If all Henry had to get was a box, why did it take him so long and why couldn’t a normal box work?
Regina taking so long to pull out Marian’s heart- Why didn’t Regina tell Robin that’s what she was planning to do instead of being so dramatic and cryptic about it? Why did she have to wait for Henry to return with the box, she could’ve pulled out Marian’s heart when she was less frozen and kept it safely on the side until Henry returns with a wooded box.
Snow being overly possessive of the baby and not letting Charming even hold him- Snow is going to give the kid issues if she won’t let him out of her sight. There was no reason really why she couldn’t even let Charming hold him, he was sat right next to her and wasn’t going to steal the child away.
Clumsy Emma- There was no reason for Emma to fall over that tree branch. Sometimes it feels like the writers diminish Emma in order to make Regina look better.

Keeper of FelixOctober 13, 2014 at 12:07 pm #285336KebParticipantThe other thing with Regina taking so long to pull the heart, when she knew while Marian was just barely freezing that it would save her–it felt almost like she was giving Robin the chance to say, nah, let her die, then we can be together. It just didn’t feel reasonable (and it felt a little OOC for Regina to not do something impulsive, too).

Hook’s explanation of phones. That was by far my favorite Hook moment. He called speed dial “pressing the Emma button”. It was just too precious. I’m beginning to like Hook more than I thought I would, and seeing him not be all that flirty with Emma or any other lady for a minute was a refresher.
Emma being annoyed. I know it was written in to be a “Woah, Emma. Chill out.” episode, but Emma was really seeming to get agitated and snappy about things that I would get agitated and snappy about. It felt real for her to be this exasperated.
Will Scarlet was very good. I haven’t watched OUATW, but I really like him. He’s a sly son of a gun. I really hope he comes back. I’m genuinely curious as to how their going to incorporate him.
Though, I’m wary of the Ice Queen, I’m loving the mystery of her. I really want to know what’s up with her. I think she’s lying about being Elsa’s aunt. Especially considering she didn’t bat an eye when Elsa said her mother was dead. I’m still thinking that somehow time travel is involved in this situation. I have no other clue as to how she would know Emma (and in such an emotional way, too. Did you see her face?) , but be present with Elsa in the past. It all seems very fishy. I saw someone post that Anna is perhaps the Ice Queen and Rumpel had a hand in that. If time travel has anything to do with it, I’m still on that boat. It could also be revealed when we find that urn and reveal what the symbols mean.
In the Middle:
Ice Queen. I like her, and I’m interested to know who she is. However, I’m wary of another misunderstood villain. I want this lady to be a little bit different, even if she is misunderstood, too. Things seem to be going well. I’m just keeping my eyes open.
Rumpel’s association with the Ice Queen. I’m not going to moan about him knowing everyone. I’ve come to terms with the fact that Rumpel’s lived for centuries and undoubtedly brushed arms with the most famous and infamous of their realm. I just…hope this doesn’t go in the same direction as all of his deals do. I want there to be a spin on this, not just him being a douche. He’s supposed to start reforming himself soon. I’d at least like to see it.
Disliked:
I can’t tolerate OutlawQueen. The whole thing turns my stomach a little. Especially after seeing Marian having fun with her family, and be internally upset at her son comparing her to her executioner. It all just cements that this woman deserves a happy ending more than Regina does, and I’m wishing that the writers hadn’t completely cancelled out her True Love with Robin. It’s just unfair. Also the way that they did it: Regina and Robin making googly eyes at each other over her frozen, heartless carcass. And this is immediately after seeing scenes of this woman being kind and polite and awed by her knew surroundings and the love of her family. Is this really happening? Are they really making this a good thing? The only thing that can make this better is having the story end exactly the same: Robin and Marian being together, or having Robin want neither of them, or anything but OutlawQueen. I’m sorry, but you can’t steal the happiness from someone else, especially in such a brutal way. And you can’t play it up like it’s okay. I just can’t take that.
Rumpel needs to stop lying. I thought when Hook blackmailed Rumpel his response would be “Sorry, dearie. Already rectified that situation.” But no. This scene was to show that Rumpel never re-switched the dagger. He decided to give it back, promised on his son’s grave he would, saw something shiny, and lied again. As much as I hate OutlawQueen, you can at least see Regina change. Rumpel is just not budging. The death of his son should have made him, but it didn’t.
Regina could have taken Marian’s heart without waiting for her to become a Popsicle. We all knew what she was going to do. No need to build it up. C’mon guys, why rub salt in the wound by letting her nearly die? Robin should have inquired as to why a small box was needed when she could have just held her heart, so as to not nearly kill this woman.
October 13, 2014 at 1:36 pm #285350GaultheriaParticipantHe didn’t say he didn’t love Marian. He said he loved someone else. Obvious implication, he’s fallen for Regina.
True, he could be in love with Marian, but Robin seems like the kind of guy who would choose to do “the honourable thing”, so I think that explains his marriage in the first place.
Even if Robin is in love with Marian and with someone else at the same time — and the implication is that he’s in love with Regina — this show has used misleading dialogue before. When David took his sword to Regina’s house (in early season 2?) to get Henry, Regina said “You won’t be using that”. David objected, and Regina said “I mean, you won’t need to use it”.
I think it’s important that the writers didn’t have Robin declare his love for Regina outright. That could be the solution to the Robin dilemma: nobody wins.

Keeper of FelixOctober 13, 2014 at 2:04 pm #285356MyrilParticipantIf anyone is interested:
The ancient futhark runes on the urn (and all of them in one go this time, unlike what I did on another forum)
1. Tiwaz (in this form more younger futhark, not elder), t/d, named after the god Tyr, the god of justice, but also equatet with Roman Mars, the god of war, so with glory, heroic glory, power
2. Isaz – ice, isolate, or i
3. probably Kaunaz (kaunan, kenaz, kneno) – torch, sometimes taken for knowledge, enlightenment, sometimes more in the sense of burning, fire being dangerous, burning pain as ulcer, disease, harm, standing for k, c, or German ch. Kauna usually though is in the elder futhark just “>”., in the younger has a different form
4. Thurisaz or Thurs – giant, or th
5. Isaz (again)
6. Laguz – water, lake, or LLoose interpretation: The power (glory) to ice/freeze/isolate the harmful giant of ice (the powerful, magical being) in (the form of a kind of) water.
I’m wondering who Robin is in love with, because he didn’t say it was Regina, only that it isn’t Marian, and that he is sorry for dragging Regina into this.
So I wasn’t the only one noticing that – but think he meant Regina.
Episode had mostly good pacing and some gems in the dialogue. Enjoyable for the greater part of it.
dislikes:
Henry telling Regina, “You have to change the book because it’s wrong about you.” No, sorry, kid, your adoptive mother did evil things. time for her to accept that, stop whining and move on, and stop demanding of all the people she hurt to see her differently. That is not what should matter to Regina, if she would truly be on a way to redemption. But I am sure, some see that differently, so be it. Well, Henry is a teenager, and seems to take somewhat after his name patron and (adoptive) grandfather Henry sr., so whatever. And Operation Mongoose? Seriously? Mongoose are said to fight cobras eventually when attacked. Mongoose is the name of a supervillain in the Marvel universe. Kinda ironic, the cobra thing, seeing that Henry named revealing Regina as Evil Queen and breaking the Dark Curse she cast operation cobra.
Just wish to fast forward this story. Don’t care about Henry-Regina bonding anymore, care little about Henry since he turned out to be Rumple’s grandson, and they once and for all killed my interest in Regina with the Zelena showdown and pixie dust soul mate destiny nonsense. Just hope they don’t go cheesy into Neverending Story territory or Inkheart (the latter I quite liked though).
Robin confessing he loves someone else (very likely Regina) over the frozen body of his wife. Possible she heard it, she’s not dead yet, and even unconscious people notice a lot of things. I don’t have a problem making Robin and Regina a couple, wouldn’t even have a problem with them being soul mates, but as hard as they try to sell it even, I just don’t feel any deeper connection between these two. Not to mention the pixie dust nonsense they started it with. I see two adults having the hots for each other, and I’m fine with that, if they would stop selling it as soul mate. Sorry, not there for my, don’t buy i, can be mostly the writing, but might be acting as well. I don’t feel anything deep going between Robin and Regina. I know, for others it is obviously there, so be it, no need to discuss. YMMV
Granny going with the mob? Has she forgotten, what she is, and how towns people went after her own granddaughter? But, right, always different when it’s not family. At least she could have been a bit more reluctant than others. And Leroy? Not the first time he is quick with judgment and call for action. Not just grumpy but a squaller. He is like way too many people in our world: Jump to conclusions, demand somebody’s head, ask later (if at all). Why bother to check facts before stiring up an angry crowd. Kinda topical seeing all the mob mentality emerging online.
neutral:
If they would stop giving RumBelle that icky good true love touch, it could be more interesting. Wouldn’t mind a more dark Belle then – but guess that is something most of audience won’t like, being so romanticized by the Disnyfied fluffy version of Beauty and the Beast. But Rumple is still good for some interesting dynamics. So, Will Scarlett is in town. Can’t say I care, but can’t say I have anything against it at this point.
Likes:
Intrigued by the Snow Queen. Fell in love with Elizabeth when I saw her in Gia (like Angelina Jolie’s character, Gia, did) but might fall in love with her all over again. Some subtley, somewhere between sweet, ice cold, crazy, highly intelligent, powerful and menacing. Bit like Cate Blanchet as Galadriel (the one character from Tolkien’s world I so would love to see get her own movie, or become a central character in and adaption of the Silmarillion, just saying). Just hope the writers don’t mess the character up as they messed up Zelena (this show is so eating on my hope reservoirs).
edit: Diary Queen is for me as lactose intolerant being more a place of hell, so had a special smirk on face when Emma called her that.Elsa – Hook, particular the talk in the woods. Finally someone understanding Emma, due time (has been a while since her own mother, though as Mary Margaret and unaware of being her mother showed a bit of understanding). Whatever other problems there are with Hook and some of his attitudes and doings in the past, I do think he genuinely cares about Emma, but it’s not easy to get Emma at times. So was good for him to hear Elsa’s thoughts on it. As I liked that kinda both didn’t listen to Emma.
Emma – of course, pretty much every scene. I don’t mind if Emma tries to bring a happy ending even to Regina, as long as she is allowed to call her out on her crap as she did in this episode. They don’t need to be friends to respect each other, so please, don’t turn Emma into another sweet talking, scrambled brain, Regina cheerleader like her mother Snow has become. Emma can be sassy in her own way, gets things done, is tough, and shows more of her vulnerable sides. More of that mix.
Elsa and Kristoff – nice dynamic.
I know what patience and luck it takes to get good pictures with animals. So extra carrots for what they do with Sven.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

Speaking of Grumpy…is anyone else getting a bit annoyed with how they are writing him right now? Every episode has his screaming shouting and being rather mean. Yes, he’s GRUMPY but I don’t remember him being this in your face every single time we see him.

The Knave! I didn’t think I missed him that much but then I heard his stupid british accent and all the feels came again
We got Hans for like 3 seconds
I like how The Snow Queen isn’t 100% evil. She’s cute and sort of wants to help Elsa and she gives ice cream to people! (You know, when she doesn’t curse them)
Hook and the phone!
I really liked how a bit of Marian’s hair turned white like Anna’s in the movie.
They actually gave Marian a few sentences that showed she’s a living human being and not a wall in the shape of a human between Regina and Robin
Least favorites:
We got the Knave but we didn’t really get him. I mean. he wasn’t an actual character this episode, he was just a way to tell Emma about the Snow Queen and make her feel bad about herself.
Hans dying after one epsiode. I know he’s a villain and he’s not even the real villain of the story in OUAT but I really liked him.
WHY IS EVERYONE RELATED?!?
Robin, honey, it’s great that you love Regina, but do you really have to tell her that RIGHT NEXT TO THE FORZEN BODY OF YOUR DYING WIFE?!?
Rumple being shaddy and ruining everything with Belle.
This “I’m framing you so you’ll see that everyone thinks you’re a monster” thing feels way to much like Cora.
Hook’s “I know we’re being attacked by a snow witch and everyone’s in danger but what about meeeeeee” attitude.
You know what I can't continue with the dead people brought back to life list I'm out of space in the signature and now we have an underworld arc this is to much I quit why do you bring so many people back to life OUAT WHHHYYYY

October 13, 2014 at 7:40 pm #285425ellemo78ParticipantHe didn’t just ask Rumple for help because Rumple told him prior to the blackmailing that “unless you have something to offer me, I’m afraid I can be no further help.” Rumple was not going to just help Hook. That’s not how the Dark One works. Plus, blackmail might not be the most honorable method, but Rumple really only has himself to blame for getting himself in this dagger swapping mess.
Except Rumple also said that he was turning over a new leaf, whether or not he is, is beside the point. The point is: ask first. Have Elsa ask, have Emma ask, have Charming ask, have Henry ask…someone that Rumple is less inclined to say no to. Or go to Belle. Tell her what’s going down, and she’ll ask Rumple to help.
I think Rumple has pretty much made his feelings clear about helping anyone associated with the Charmings. And didn’t David ask him last week and he flat out refused? And just because Belle might be on side with helping that still doesn’t mean she can talk him around. He is his own man with his own agenda. He obviously knew the Snow Queen was in town, he went to talk to her later on. He was sending Hook and Elsa on a merry chase. He could have said, oh this is Ice Cream Lady’s magic, but he didn’t.
There wasn’t much to the blackmail imo. I saw it more as a deal (which is what Hook offered in the end) Now, how far that deal to help extends and how much Hook can trip himself up with it I guess we’ll find out.
If one is to engage with the primordial forces of darkness, one must expect a little social awkwardness
