So, we all pretty much realize that Lily is Mal’s long lost child. Well, I was just pointed out how the writers might have picked the name “Lily” in relation to Mal in the first place. They might have got the idea from the Song of Solomon 2 from the Bible.
Like a lily among the thorns, so is my darling among the maidens.

I was also thinking of the movie, Legend today. And Mia Sara’s character was a princess named Lily who was seduced by darkness (Tim Curry).
But I think that passage is probably closer to why Lily was chosen.
