1) A definition of lily is “white or pure thing: somebody or something that is particularly white or pure.
2) JK Rowling (my queen in all things) has from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them the following passage:
The Unicorn is a beautiful beast found throughout the forests of northern Europe. It is a pure white, horned horse when fully grown, though the foals are initially golden, and turn silver before achieving maturity. The unicorns horn, blood and hair all have highly magical properties. It generally avoids human contact, is more likely to allow a witch to approach it than a wizard, and is so fleet of foot that it is very difficult to capture.

Well when we’ve had Emma’s boyfriend turn out to be a flying monkey, I guess Lily being a unicorn isn’t THAT far off…But dear God, no…
So now Lily is Mal’s unicorn who became a person? Well, that wouldn’t be that far off. Gus Gus was a mouse and he was human in Storybrooke and Jiminy was a cricket but he was originally human, turned into a cricket and then human again in Storybrooke.
But how twisted is that that Mal turned her own daughter into a unicorn?
Know who else close to Maleficent transformed between animal and human form in a certain movie?
Yeah, Mal’s trusty Raven transforming sidekick, Diaval. Had to bring him up.

Unicorns being drawn to young maidens in a standard thing in mythology.

And she has dark hair, much like Mal’s Unicorn. 😉
