.March 13, 2016 at 8:59 pm #318891RumplesGirlKeymasterI hate episodes in which the theme is spelled out for the viewer over and over; as if you are incapable of picking up on the theme-of-the-week without characters saying it over and over. “Don’t let fear of failure stop you from trying” Yes, yes. Fine message, I suppose. But stop having your characters say it. Show it. SHOW.
This episode wasn’t horrible. It’s much better than a lot of S5A. But it was tedious; the same beat being hit over and over and over. Also, man…Hercules and Meg have no charisma, do they?
LIKED
–“Can you keep a secret?” LOL, No Hercules
–“The gin, the glamour….the gin.” Welcome back Cruella. I honestly do love her.
–Emma and Hades finally met and it was good. It should have been a bit more weighty (Savoir vs Death) but I’ll wait for that moment.
–Bailee is a mini Ginny, as always
–“Why does everyone say that? I am Hades. This is death.” Mythology: unlocked! (hint: no one but a savior/hero can conquer death)
–Cerberus CGI wasn’t terrible but wish we had seen a bit more.
–Baby Snow’s outfits
–“I don’t want to be Mary Margaret anymore. I want to be Snow White.” PRAISE GOD. THANK YOU DARK LORDS, OF TV!
MIXED
–Hercules and Young Snow. So Snow learns how to be a hero because of a guy? That she has a crush on? Good lord, why? Also, since when is heroism defined by being able to FIGHT? Snow outwitted people in S1. Brains over brawn. And now it’s the other way. But at least we learned how Snow learned to shoot! Finally.
–Mary Margaret’s emotional turmoil in Hellbrooke. Tedious but a mostly okay message? However felt like we were retreading familiar ground, which annoys.
–I think the bridge to the “Better Place” is really the way to Forgotten Character Island. Bye Bye Herc and Meg?
DISLKED
–OMG Meg has the emotional resonance of a teaspoon. I mean why did I care about her at all? Talk about a truly uninspired depiction of one of Disney’s more feisty princesses. Especially since it turns out that Meg was a damsel in distress running from Cerberus when Herc “met” her.
–Meg and Herc don’t already know each other? How am I supposed to by their love story if they literally just met while fighting a three-headed dog?
–Young Snow not only knew Hercules but made out with him! And we’ve never gotten the slightest hint EVER about this.
–Snow walked into a camp after one shooting lesson to take on bandits. Oh. You naive idiot.
–The Pen is alive and has unfinished business. Good lord. So do all inanimate objects have unfinished business? Is Chip gonna lament his sad fate and have to talk to Rumple in order to move on. No but really. The pen is alive, guys.
–Heaven is Olympus. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

This episode wasn’t as thrilling as the last, but it was enjoyable at parts.
Liked:
The answer to who trained Snow White….finally! It took five seasons, but we finally know! Well done Hercules.
Hercules don’t ever ask Snow White to keep a secret….it may just be your undoing.
Herc and Snow’s interaction was nice.
Regina encouraging Snow White, highlight moment for me.
Cruella De Vil and Henry had the best scene of the night, I don’t know why, but this woman just never fails to amuse and entertain me!
And finally Snow is ready to cast aside her Mary Margret title and go back to her Snow White roots.
Hercules taking Megara back home with him to Olympus in the end was wonderful!
Nice to see that even Bailee knows how Snow can’t keep a secret! Lol
"can you keep a secret?"
ummmmmmmmmmm. we've been down this road before. #OnceUponATime @onceabc

Disliked:
Megara….I just can’t get over how they destroyed her character. Just a travesty!

I AM thinking Heaven will be different for every person…. It was not OLYMPUS for Henry SR.

.March 13, 2016 at 9:15 pm #318898KebParticipantI really enjoyed this one. It had an S1 vibe about it…maybe because Snow was the focus again.
Liked:
–OMG the outfits for Snow and Regina.
–Baby Snow. Bailee is impossibly good at capturing Ginnie’s portrayal of Snow White–they are seamless and beyond the uncanny appearance, it’s down to Bailee’s hard work as a young actress. She nails every emotional expression perfectly.
–Early Evil Queening. Love it. Fills in a nice hole on the timeline.
–Herc. I actually liked him. And I am so glad they gave him and Baby Snow an adorable puppy-love romance, even if it took away from the Meg relationship.
–That bandit dude…he’s the same one Regina kills years later, isn’t he? Mmm continuity even if it’s just ep to ep is nice.
–The author plot resurrection. I have qualms with it but I love the focus on Henry and I love that it’s not just over because he snapped the quill. Also Cruella is Devillishly fun to watch at work. (And gin.)
–Hades continues to be wonderful. Not sure they could’ve picked a better actor for the part.Disliked:
–Tortured Hook. There doesn’t seem to be much cause for it before the heroes start making trouble, so…I dunno, confused. Also I like Hook and it’s hard seeing him all bloodied up like that.
–Meg. She was a bit of a disappointment after the Disney version…and about as flat and pointless a character as can be. The whole episode could have worked without her, almost. It would’ve worked for me if the damsel in distress thing had been an act…but they didn’t really give themselves time to play with that, since apparently that’s all we get of Herc.
–No Rumple and No Belle. It was a pretty solid ep overall despite their absence, but… (I am SO looking forward to next week when Rumple gets to play with Hades!)Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. Yes it was. It’s the same place. The clouds cleared for Herc and Meg, letting the audience in the secret. But it’s the same place.

I agree completely….what would have been better is if Hercules only unfinished business was Cerberus, who killed him and his true love Megara, and that guilt haunted him this entire time. But after defeating him and going across the bridge, Megara comes running out of Olympus to welcome Hercules at the bridge, thank Snow White for bringing HER Wonder Boy home to her, and Megara takes Hercules hand and together they go into Olympus.
Much like at the end of Titanic when Rose died, and it was Jack who welcomed her home to the afterlife.

March 13, 2016 at 9:49 pm #318921RumplesGirlKeymasterThought of another dislike, or maybe a missed opportunity.
-Emma you lived in the real world for your entire life and have made several Harry Potter jokes before. How did you NOT snarkily suggest that someone play Cerberus a lullaby?
I miss when Emma used to make funny pop culture references.

They actually said on a interview to TV line before 512, that heaven would be mount olympus and hell would be downstairs, i remenbered bc Matt M from TV line asked them, if Neal was not in the UW, then would mean he was on one of those 2 places and they said yes, since we saw in 512 that Neal is happy and in peace, is safe to say he is in Heaven or Mount Olympus.
