And ho has Merlz been trapped in a tree this whole time when he has clearly been speaking with apprentice…
Well we saw him speaking to the Apprentice in that weird smoke could thing. Maybe his body is trapped in the tree. But clearly he was out 20+ years ago in order to visit Young Emma. Maybe Arthur put him in the tree.
[adrotate group="5"]October 1, 2015 at 10:38 am #308872SlurpeezParticipantBut…. why? What was wrong with them telling them Emm was both savior and dark one.
The reason the SB grang doesn’t tell Arthur Emma is the dark one is based on how Arthur responds.
David: Our home is being threatened by the dark one.
Arthur: The dark one? Yes, we’re well aware of that demon.Had Arthur’s choice of word to describe the dark one been less intense, the group might’ve felt safe telling him Emma’s story. However, because Arthur and his knights seem to have a strong aversion to the dark one, keeping Emma’s secret under wraps appears to them to be the safer course of action. Of course, that’ll likely backfire.
He JUST said Merlin was never wrong, so Emma will free the guy.
Arthur did say that Merlin was never wrong, but Merlin’s prophesy never named Emma as the one to free Merlin; it said that the savior would save Merlin. And right now Regina just put herself forward as the new savior.

October 1, 2015 at 10:48 am #308874RumplesGirlKeymasterBut there’s no reason for the SB gang to offer up the information that Emma is the Dark One. When asked “which of you is the Savior” Emma could just step forward and go “yup, that’s me.” without any sort of new-DO elaboration. It’s going to become fairly obvious that Regina is not the Savior when Merlin is still inside that tree. The SB gang just created a whole new problem for themselves because now they are going to be caught in a lie and forced to reveal that Emma is the Dark One and while Arthur might have accepted Emma was not EVILZ because she was also the Savior AND freed Merlin, now it’s going to look like Emma is super duper evil and no one can be trusted.

I think we’re mostly in agreement. Of course, that choice to conceal the truth of Emma being both the savior and the dark one will totally backfire in the faces of the SB gang. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is part of went wrong in Camelot. Arthur may’ve learned the truth and gone after Emma, Emma’s family tried to do something to keep Emma safe, Henry got caught in the crossfire, and Emma overreacted thereby perhaps killing someone and going full-on dark one.

I don’t know if it’s that simple. Clearly, Merlin gets out of that tree while the SB gang is in Camelot (we saw BTS photos of Emma and Merlin together). So either Emma lets him out or Regina does. I think the way Arthur learns that Emma is the dark one is by finding the dark one dagger inscribed with the name Emma Swan.

We are. I was agreeing with your “it’s going to backfire” line.
Merlin gets out of that tree sometime while the SB gang is in Cemelot (we saw BTS photos of Emma and Merlin)
Yeah but there’s something shady about the whole thing. Like…how long has Merlin been in that tree? Cause he was up walking around and telling Young! Emma not to do a thing back in ’89 but if we’re right that Nimue trapped him (per legend) then that’s…long ago. *rubs head* T-word nonsense. My point, I think, is that I think there’s more to this whole tree-wizard story.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 1, 2015 at 1:41 pm #308893MatthewPaulModeratorMy theories on why Merlin is in that tree:
1) For whatever reason, Arthur trapped him there himself. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t quite trust Arthur. I think he has his own hidden agenda. As for what his hidden agenda is, I’m sure it’ll have to do with finding the dagger and reuniting it with Excalibur.
2) Merlin put himself in the tree as some sort of ruse. Maybe to test Emma and the gang in some shape or form.October 1, 2015 at 1:54 pm #308894RumplesGirlKeymaster1) For whatever reason, Arthur trapped him there himself. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t quite trust Arthur.
I don’t either. There’s something….off about him.

That would fit with the Merlin in The Once and Future King and Disney’s Sword and the Stone; constantly testing Arthur (Emma in this case who’s a clear gender swapped Arthur) by all manner of weird situations.

That made me laugh way, way, way too hard.

October 1, 2015 at 2:49 pm #308897WickedRegalParticipantI just…I don’t buy the whole Merlin in a tree bit. I know it’s part of Arthurian Legend, but he was just speaking with Emma in the 80s. I think Merlin’s hiding out and only made people think he was trapped in a tree, as a way as we think to test Emma and the gang.

October 1, 2015 at 3:03 pm #308899TheWatcherParticipantYAY!!!!!!!!!! I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t trust Arthur. Shady man is shady.
Also, at what point is Merlin trapped as tree in Arthuian legend? Is it after Arthur is king? Before? That could help this all make sense.
