“Dreamcatcher” – In Camelot, as Mary Margaret and David attempt to retrieve the Dark One dagger, Emma uses a Dreamcatcher to look into the past to see how Merlin was transformed into a tree. Together, Emma and Regina figure out the critical ingredient they must acquire to free Merlin, but it’s a race against Arthur, who does not want Merlin released. Meanwhile, with encouragement from his moms, Henry musters up the courage to ask Violet on a date. Back in Storybrooke, the heroes break into Emma’s house hoping to locate Gold, but what they find will give them a glimpse of Emma’s end game. Far from prying eyes, Merida sets about the mission Emma has tasked her with and begins molding Gold into the hero they need to draw Excalibur, on “Once Upon a Time,” SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

This was the guy IMDB listed as “First Dark One.” Guess he really could be the First Dark One, and his name is Vortigan. Vortigan does sound like a Dark Oneish name.

(Yes, I’m always a little annoyed after an ep of zero Belle, sorry.)

Vortigern (/ˈvɔrtɨdʒɜrn/;[1] Welsh: Gwrtheyrn; Old English: Wyrtgeorn; Breton: Guorthigern; Irish: Foirtchern), also spelled Vortiger and Vortigen, was a 5th-century warlord in Britain, a leading ruler among the Britons. His existence is considered likely, though information about him is shrouded in legend. He may have been the “superbus tyrannus” said to have invited Hengist and Horsa to aid him in fighting the Picts and the Scots. But they revolted, killing his son in the process and adding Sussex and Essex to their own kingdom. It is said that he took refuge in North Wales, and that his grave is in Dyfed or the Llŷn Peninsula. He is cited at the head of the genealogy of the early Kings of Powys.
Vortigern often appears in modern Arthurian fiction. In the miniseries Merlin (1998) which uses the legend of Merlin and the dragons, Vortigern is played by Rutger Hauer. The film The Last Legion (2007), based in part on the novel of the same name (2002) by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, features a highly fictionalized portrayal of Vortigern under the pseudo-authentic name Vortgyn. Jude Law plays Vortigen in the film Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur (2016).

KEB … you do realize the only reason they have BELLE as a regular was because of the overwhelming fan response to BELLE and Rumple… I do not think that was originally planned.. she was suppose to be a limited character more like CINDERELLA and Aurora. I always considered it lucky we got any stories for her at all … so when she shows up along the heros that is a good thing.

Belle and Rumple are easily the most interesting relationship on the show. Yes Belle proved popular after Skin Deep but I think A&E always intended her to be around in at least a semi-regular capacity because of the fact that 1) She’s in a relationship with Rumple. 2) they had her locked in the asylum instead of having her actually be dead, and 3) they can’t seem to just let Rumple and Belle be happy together. There’s always something separating them for one reason or another. At the time A&E didn’t know if they would get Emilie because she’d done a pilot for a show that may have been picked up. When it didn’t get picked up, A&E snapped her up and gave her regular status whilst they had the chance so that they didn’t lose her because Belle is an important part of RumBelle and is essentially Rumple’s morality chain. If they couldn’t get Emilie, they would’ve worked round it until she became available again but I think Belle was always a part of the story going forward, it was just a question of Emilie’s availability.
However, A&E often waste Belle’s character and I think Emilie has been very good to tolerate it. She knows them from Lost so maybe that is why she’s more willing to let it slide plus she still gets paid, but A&E could definitely do more with Belle’s character. Hopefully this year is her year.

Keeper of FelixOctober 19, 2015 at 5:45 pm #310354KebParticipantI know Belle was a bit of a surprise standout–but she has been a regular since the start of S2, and consistently underused (whereas Hook, who wasn’t even introduced until a couple eps into S2, has been a regular as long and yet winds up in almost every scene somehow or another…as well as all the promo art/DVD covers…). I like Hook, but it’s definitely imbalanced and it doesn’t hurt anyone to say so or to support more of their favorite character on screen.
They have been careless with a LOT of talent and its costing them viewers. I don’t want to see my fave go the same direction.

October 19, 2015 at 6:00 pm #310355TheWatcherParticipantAhhh, Matt beat me to it. So yeah apparently there is a connection to Merlin somewhat. I also found that apparently there was a character called Vortigan or whatever on archer who was called the Dark Archer. He was played by Steve Bacic. Perhaps that’s why a&E called the first dark one Steve :3
