I’m kinda liking the twisted metaness of “Rumple” conspiring to kill himself.
Killian really has gone from being Captain Hook, Character, to A&E’s Mary Sue, hasn’t he though?

Way back when, he stabbed Rumple and in his mind (because he didn’t know Rumple surivived at the time) he had completed his task. He had taken his revenge. And then I believe he mentioned in one episode or another, that the revenge did not really satsify him. So now after all this time, he’s STILL hung up on it? After Neverland, after time travel, after FROZEN, after getting the girl he wanted.
And even though I have my own thoughts on CS. I thought Hook was happy with Emma and just living his life with her and stuff. In other words, I thought Hook really didn’t care about Rumple one way or the other anymore. Yes there was the heart taking thing and almost sucking Emma into a hat thing, but time has past since then and Hook kinda didn’t do anything about that. (There was me thinking, that was Hook knowing how revenge hadn’t sated him in the past, so why would it now?)
My point is, this revenge thing feels a little out of the blue for me. It shouldn’t, because I know Hook has obsession and grudge holding issues. However it wasn’t brought to the front of the stage for some time now.
Okay yes, I can see how his rather vicious ‘bloody crocodile’ mentions to Belle were probably supposed to be a clue that he still bears that grudge (heavily), but to me that was just Hook being Hook. He’s always called him that and he always didn’t like Rumple, whether the latter was being evil or trying to be a good man.
And I know why Hook didn’t display any DO symptoms. They needed the element of surprise on their side and so they couldn’t have Hook seeing Rumple, or having sparkly make-up. But what’s the explanation in the story itself?

Last season Rump was forcing Hook to do his bidding so I guess him wanting to kill him again is justified. Last season did end with Rump as the villain working with the author.

To me it feels like Normal!Hook was not concerned with Rumple (good or bad) and now that he’s Dark!Hook, he’s all of a sudden only all about Rumple revenge again, without… I don’t know, trying to find a way (for him AND Emma) to not be the Dark One anymore?? Seems to me a more pressing matter than ancient Rumple revenge.
Perhaps that’s just me thinking the writers would come up with something that they haven’t done before.

And in present day SB before Hook got his memories back, it was all “Rumple was the victim, I was the villain, I regret everything, I am a good man now…so on and so forth.” Not having your memories shouldn’t impact the level of darkness in your soul (which is apparently the same as Emma’s) nor should it take away all the hallmarks of being the DO.
As for the peek itself: Bobby is amazing, even as DO Clippy Rumple. That’s….about all I have to say.

Don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s just that the writers don’t care about making their characters consistent. When they wanted to sell him as the romantic hero, they whitewashed him and ignored how he should realistically act. Now their plot needs him to be dark again, so SURPRISE he’s regressed.

That’s it exactly.
I think what they meant to suggest is that because Hook has spent X amount of years hating and trying to kill Dark!Rumple (and presumably the DO more abstractly, though as some here have pointed out, he didn’t like Rumple when he was a normal guy either), now that he finds himself to be the thing he hates most (the DO) he’s transferring all that self-loathing onto a familiar object.
Another way to explain it is that back in the day, Hook enjoyed trolling Weak!Rumple. Then Rumple turned DO, and bullied Hook right back. Now that Hook is DO and Rumple is human,Hook’s just going right back to the thing that made him feel good before. And if that’s not satisfying character development, it’s because it’s essentially middle school play yard politics. I’d like to say I expected better from the writers, but I really don’t anymore, so *shrug* That’s where we’re at.
November 25, 2015 at 12:54 pm #313064kpercymanParticipantObviously Hook has said that he was over his revenge but deep down in the depths of his mind he still holds that grudge. You can say things in an attempt to believe them, but he is the type of person that feels something with his whole being. Once Hook makes up his mind he gives into it completely. I don’t think anything can just turn that off. We’ve seen it before. I’m a pirate, therefore, I’m instantly horrible and the worst private ever. I’m in love with Emma, therefore, I’m a hero now.
I’ve always preferred DO Rumple. And love this. I’m excited for DO Hook.
