I’m pretty sure the person editing the episode simply copy/pasted the same time card that was used for “Our Decay”. They’re exactly the same words and placement. They probably overlooked the “Many Years Ago” part, for whatever reason.

FYI it seems that they know of the mistake and it will not be in the episode.

@aKBloodwords abc messed up. That's NOT what we put in the episode. No idea how that happened

@ahsagitarius someone at abc messed up. That is NOT correct nor what we put in the episode. No idea how that happened.

@starshadewrites they are not. Someone at ABC messed up. That's not what we approved. Not what we put in actual episode

@Lizzyc807 yes. someone mistakenly swtiched the title card with one from a different episode. the air version should be correct

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@LadyLuckyCherry @aKBloodwords no. we approve the final edit. but along the way, someone made a mistake and sent the wrong thing out

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@erratic_self @ahsagitarius it's truth. I approved the correct title card. someone made a mistake along the way. The air version is right

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@RippleStchSkein it wasn't the episode that was manipulated. it was the "clip" — the episode is correct

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@LadyLuckyCherry @aKBloodwords no. there was ONE edit. someone between ONCE and EW thought it was a mistake and without asking changed it

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@LadyLuckyCherry @aKBloodwords the episode has always been correct. This was a mistake someone made with the clip

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@scarimor yea. The show that airs wasn't changed.

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

    @scarimor @LadyLuckyCherry @aKBloodwords when clips go to press pre-air — yes

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@RippleStchSkein it wasn't show content. It was a clip. Show was/is correct

    — Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) April 14, 2016

@FordMiss @aKBloodwords no. The episode is fine. The problem was with the clip.

So it sounds like it was somebody in the ABC press department that made this mistake. The good thing is that it looks like this error won’t be on the aired version.

What’s interesting as well is that, since this error was picked up by a lot of fans and Adam seemingly spent a good chunk of time responding about this, then perhaps A&E will realise they’ve got to be more careful timeline wise because fans will pick up on any mistakes.

Wow. But one of those posters makes a good point, someone (not A and E) thought it was okay to go in and edit the work before sending it out?? Like without consulting with showrunners?

I sympathize with Adam. Version control on team projects, keeping incremental backups just in case while also keeping everybody current — it’s a challenge.

Here’s the sneak peek with the updated title card. It still annoys me though since it should have only been a few weeks ago.

“Some time ago” works well enough for me, as it simply means that the event happened in the past tense. I’ll take it over “many years ago”, which was flat out wrong.

    “Some time ago….”

Because the writers really have no idea and no concept of their own timeline. I mean, yeah it’s better than “many years ago” but lately the title cards seem generalized out of ignorance instead of anything else

“Some time ago…” feels to me like a 4th grader writing an essay about something in history and he doesn’t know the specific time so he writes “some time ago”.
