If I may ask, is there anything behind-the-scenes that could cause Sean to leave? I mean, while a lot of the MRJ drama was denied, it made a lot of noise (certainly a lot more than the “Sean assaulting a make-up artist” rumor) at the time.
Because, if not, it really makes no sense for Robin to die. With Neal, however ridiculous as his death was, there was at least SOME resolution. Emma had a second love interest, he died to save his father, he ended up leading Hook to Emma, etc. Of course, he should’ve had some more closure with Henry, but at least you could believe that this was his end.
In Robin’s case, it makes less sense for him to die. He was confirmed as Regina’s soulmate in S3, he led Regina to love even without her heart in 3×18, and he still harbored love for her when he left with “Marian” in 4×11. He has no competing love interests, is invested in multiple characters’ lives, and has become a close member of the Charming/Mills family. There isn’t any reason that Robin should die other than the writers’ saying, “Oh, we need a death! A real death! Because that’s a thing that happens!”
I know my questions are pointless, but I really wonder what thoughts go through the heads of the writers (and I fear they may be ones of misogyny).

Robin isn’t connected to the group in any significant way that matters, so he can easily be cut out and it won’t really matter. Also, they are trying to pretend that Zelena is good now and they probably didn’t want the man she rapped hanging around not wanting her to be around their baby.

We don’t know, but both Matt and I suspect there might be something. I highly (highly!!) doubt the rumors of sexual harrassament are true but I think it’s either 1) Sean’s dissatisfied with his role/amount of screen time (he would’t be the first one) 2) budget cuts at ABC (just look at what happened this past month with Castle) or 3) he had a fallout with someone.

The sexual harassment rumours are completely untrue for the fact the makeup artist herself that the rumours were about came out in Sean’s defence. Also Lana Parilla, who was cast in the “knight in shining armour” role in the rumour, came out and said nothing of the sort had happened.
As for the other 3 more likely possibilities.
1. Sean being dissatisfied with his role- Robin holds no real importance in the story, he’s just there to prop up Regina’s character instead of existing as his own character. It’s not the first time an actor on this show has spoken out about their lack of story (Michael Socha). If the actor has to spend time away from their family, they at least want it to be worthwhile, not just standing in the background.
2. Budget cuts- Cutting Robin would make sense to save money because of the fact he has no real impact on the story.
3. Fallout with Someone- This could feed into 1. Either it’s A&E over the lack of screentime or it’s one of the “big” cast members like JMO, Colin, RC, Ginny, Josh, or Emilie. However, considering Robin has nothing to do with RumBelle and doesn’t share scenes with them, I think RC and Emilie are unlikely. It could also be that Sean disagreed with the direction the story went in eg, Robin is expected to forgive Zelena after what she did to him.
There is a fourth option though.
4. Robin was killed off so the WickedSisters storyline could continue without reminding the viewers what Zelena did to Robin. The writers need Regina to be in a certain headspace and they can’t do that with Robin around to keep her happy.

Keeper of FelixMay 7, 2016 at 12:55 pm #322950RumplesGirlKeymasterPersonally I think it’s a combo of 1,2 and 4. And it goes like this
ABC tells A and E that they need to make cuts because of budget reasons.
A and E look at their stories and their cast and decide that they are more interested in WickedSisters than they are OutlawQueen. They decide to kill Robin Hood and drive WickedSisters story line for the remained of the series which also has the added bonus of having the audience slowly forget the wonky consent of Robin/Zelena.
A and E tell Sean that they are going to kill Robin Hood; Sean decides he’s okay with this because he has become almost tertiary in terms of importance and actually got MORE development when he was a guest star instead of a regular.
I think the only question is why ABC kept quiet about letting Sean go when they clearly were not shy about firing two actresses (one the leading lady!) from Castle.

I think Adam and Eddy just pulled the same stunt they did with MRJ to Sean. At the cons before the wrapping of this season, Sean always had ideas of where they could go with the character Robin Hood, unfortunately none of them fell through. Adam and Eddy gave us all the worst gift to give….hope.
So my guess as to why Adam and Eddy killed off Sean is because, much like you guys have stated above, they wanted to move WickedSisters forward and neither sister can have a true love, hence why both of theirs die in the same episode.
Budget cuts probably also had to do with the letting go because let’s all face it, OUAT doesn’t even make half of the money that Grey’s Anatomy does so they cannot afford to have that big of a cast.

Trust me….if you go look at Adam’s timeline on twitter, you would understand. XD

I was thinking that Robin dies at the hands of Hades – just because Hades is a villain, and then maybe Regina can do the heart split, but it won’t bring Robin back until her heart is as pure is his or something – which means she has even more inner struggles to go through.
What if that’s what the promo is about when it says it will change the heart of Storybrooke forever?!
That’ll give them time to focus on Regina without Robin holding her purse – yet she’ll have a happy ending to fight for …
May 7, 2016 at 4:09 pm #322956sacrlcParticipantDoes this mean that anyone who is “left behind to look after the baby” is a hint that he/she is about to be let go? Red, Robin (did I miss anyone?)?
Don't grow up. It's a trap.
May 7, 2016 at 4:19 pm #322957hjbauParticipantI actually think if the writers were more honest with what was going to happen then it would go better for them. This keep watching, wait and see, nonsense really is frustrating. Them pretending that someone is not going to die or whatever they are doing. They just shouldn’t do any of that. They shouldn’t talk about the future episodes and they shouldn’t lie to their audience. They just shouldn’t pretend like a character is going to come back when they aren’t. When Neal died they should have just said he died instead of keep watching, wait and see, sending pictures of doors. They are doing the same stuff with Robin and they shouldn’t.

That’s what I think it is.
