After the whole thing with the snake venom I find it hard to believe that Arthur would be dumb enough to leave the evidence of throwing the mushroom in the fire…wouldn’t he check to see if it started to burn properly?
Yeah, Arthur could’ve just put the mushroom in his pocket, or even done the spell properly and just lied about what he heard. It’s as if he’s trying to get caught without outright confessing.

BUT SHE’S SCOTTISH. YOU HAVE TO REALLY UNDERSTAND THAT.
After the whole thing with the snake venom I find it hard to believe that Arthur would be dumb enough to leave the evidence of throwing the mushroom in the fire…wouldn’t he check to see if it started to burn properly? Just like he stood about to make sure that the knight disappeared after drinking the venom?
Why didn’t he just slip it inside his pocket and dispose of it later?!
I said this before and I will say it again. there is absolutely no need to have this whole thing with Merida to make Rumple brave. It would have been quicker for Emma to simply to threaten Belle’s life herself.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 2, 2015 at 1:18 pm #311527BelleOfTheBallParticipantRewatching the episode while I write my review. (it was just as bad the second time)
I have not read the other replies in this thread yet, so sorry if I touch on the same subjects.
Overall:
I had really high hopes for this episode because last weeks was so good. Last week brought back a mystical and magical feeling that I haven’t felt since Season 1. It was creative and the plot was well thought out and had magic that didn’t just serve a purpose for one second and then was gone forever. But this week was nothing more than a filler episode. It did not drive the plot forward at all until the last minute of the episode where Rumple pulled the sword from the stone. I would honestly rate this episode as much of a filler as Dreamy was in season 1.
Liked:
“Was that a kick my little munchkin?” – The Wizard of Oz lover inside of me squealed.
Okay, Zelina has NEVER been in my like section. I genuinely don’t like her character. But this episode, her scene with Emma may have been my favorite. She was sassy and sarcastic and cynical and it just worked this time
Although I don’t really understand Merida’s purpose on the show, I do like how she is portrayed. I like that she tries to fight Emma and that she explains to people that what she is doing isn’t her choice. We haven’t seen anyone fight their heart before. Amy is a seriously incredible actress though.
Really good casting on Brave Characters. Looked just like the Disney movie.
Lots of Belle. She is my favorite Disney Princess and it is nice to be reminded every once in a while that she is on this show.
Merlin’s “voicemail” (And Regina’s sass to compliment it!). I feel like he was not talking about Emma when he said “The dark one has found me”. There was a reason he didn’t use a name but a title. Who knows how long ago this message was from. This makes me excited to see more Merlin background!
Mixed:
Are we just going to ignore the question Merlin asked Emma at the end of the last episode?
Rumple pulling the sword from the stone this early on in the process. Okay, A&E, so you are trying to tell me that after centuries of being the dark one, turning people into snails and crushing them, manipulating people, and so on and so forth, it only takes 24 hours to make him the most pure hero in all of Storybrook?? I’m sorry, I don’t buy it. I could see this being a great arc if they didn’t rush it. If they took us more in depth through Rumple’s struggles and didnt throw it in our face and rush it along then I think I would have been giddy with excitement to see Rumple pull the sword from the stone. He would have earned it. But instead, they had him chicken out til the last second, then save Belle with a Magical McGuffin. AGAIN HE SAVED HIMSELF WITH MAGIC. It’s his biggest problem. He should have knocked Bearida (Bear Merida?) down with his cane. We all know he can do some serious damage with that. But no, magic again, and then he is suddenly considered a hero. Again, I like the idea of Rumple’s redemption but i wanted to see development and I just didn’t in one episode.
Disliked:
Okay, the opening could have simply fixed with ONE LITTLE line to say why Belle was in the dungeons with Charming, Hook, and Merlin. I just don’t understand how Belle went and not Snow.
HOW DID NO ONE NOTICE BELLE AND MERIDA WERE MISSING? The boys club was clearly so self involved with their heroics that they didn’t notice they were missing nearly half their group? And why didn’t Belle scream when Merida admitted she wanted to lure her away from her friends. This whole scene was just strange.
How did Rumple know Emma would go after Belle in order to make him a hero. He just immediately was like *Epiphany* She is going to kill you! Quick, let’s hide! Ugh.
Who wraps Onion Rings like that? I mean, honestly. Those things need to go in a box or they are a mess. Come on, Granny.
HOW DO YOU STILL TRUST ARTHUR?
Magical Mcguffin Mushroom does not burn. Because plot. ugh.
So if I can knock arrows out of the air with my own arrow, can I be a queen too?
Rumple saves himself with magic, again.
November 2, 2015 at 1:48 pm #311530imaginationParticipant– I like that we will see another Arthurian legend character and I hope Nimue will be the (first?) Dark one!
– loved the backgrounds and nature in this ep, it was just beautiful.
– I just like Merida
– And Dark Swan
– Loved to see more Belle again
– Did not really like the development of Rumple, I just don’t understand it.
– Confused about Rumple and Excalibur
– More Regina please
Overall I did really enjoy it, but never as good as last weeks episode.
Oh and this episode makes me really excited for the Merida, Mulan and Red episode!
Never think you're ordinary just because you don't have magic
November 2, 2015 at 3:36 pm #311535WickedRegalParticipantI think I’m mostly pi**ed off at the fact Regina wasn’t able to detect Arthur’s deception until now….that just seemed OOC to me. The Evil Queen who could LITERALLY SMELL Emma, and tell she wasn’t of noble birth got tricked by simpleton King Arthur…..I just….I can’t with that. She should have been one of the first people to notice something off about that royal pain in the (beep), but Adam and Eddy literally tried to dumb her down to Snowing Level, simply for PLOT. No way in Oz, Enchanted Forest, or Storybrooke should this have happened!

November 2, 2015 at 5:15 pm #311543PriceofMagicParticipantLike:
Belle standing up for Rumple against the group- Good for Belle! Once again the “heroes” do their “screw anyone we don’t care about, so long as we’re okay” routine. I just want to slap the whole lot of them across the face.
Rumple breaking the cup to use it to cut the rope- Whilst it’s sad to see Chip get broken, at the same time the symbolism that the cup represents the RumBelle relationship, basically Rumple’s love for Belle is saving him.
Belle’s snark- We need more snarky Belle.
The Merida/Belle friendship- Unfortunately we know it’s not going to last beyond this half of the season.
Belle still loves and cares for Rumple despite everything and vice versa- RumBelle Rules!
Emma as Dark Swan- Jmo is really good. I wish they’d have Emma kill Hook and show how really dark she’s become.
RC and EdR- These two deserve to be at the forefront more together. It’s a shame that they only seem to get one episode per season before they are pushed back into the background in favour of less well-written ships. They deserve more!
Zelena- The more Regina, Hook and Snowing, get uppity and self-centred, the more I root for Zelena.I like her snark.
Belle reinforcing to Rumple that he’s not a coward for wanting to be a father to his son- Belle and Rumple deserve a happy ending together.
“I should’ve known better than to argue with you by now”- That sounds like such a husband/wife conversation. Domestic RumBelle is the best RumBelle.
Belle pulling the rug out from Merida’s feet- In general, Belle was great this episode. It’s a shame that the show wastes EdR’s talents.
Belle not wanting to leave town because their was people she still cared about there- A shame the “heroes” don’t take a leaf out of Belle’s book and care about people other than themselves.
The RumBelle hug!
Rumple making a deal with Emma- Rumple has brains, it was about time he started using them.
Rumple apologising to Belle for his past behaviour- It’s a shame the writers don’t think a certain pirate should apologise for his past behaviour.
Mixed:
Emma heart controlling Merida- This only makes Hook’s actions during 4A all the more questionable. We see Emma having to hold Merida’s heart to get her to do the questionable things that Merida doesn’t want to do. Hook protested against the things Rumple wanted him to do but Rumple wasn’t holding Hook’s heart and Hook still did the things. Rumple made no illusion about the fact he intended to kill Hook when the time was right, and Rumple couldn’t kill Hook before that time, so why didn’t Hook try and put up more of a fight at least to the point where Rumple had to physically control him via heart. Hook cared more about self-preservation is what happened.
Dislike:
The “heroes” willing to throw Rumple under a bus- I’m glad Belle walked out on them. Whilst you could understand Snowing’s motivation to save their daughter first and foremost (S5 Snowing are too selfish to do what S1 Snowing did though), Regina and Hook are just stuck up hypocrites. Hook especially. He rejected Emma because of the darkness but now he’s all for trying to save her. Hook becomes more and more unlikeable with each passing episode. CS are not true love, true love does not reject somebody just because they have an affliction. Belle and Rumple are true love because Belle loves ALL of Rumple “even the parts that belong to the darkness”, Hook only wants Emma when she’s a prize to be won. Hook rejected Emma now he’s trying to crawl his way back into her affections. I hope Hook takes a short walk off a very high plank. I feel sorry for Colin, he seems like a nice guy, but Hook is such an arsehole.
The group of blokes not noticing as Merida kidnaps Belle- Merida hit Belle really hard, as in if this was real life, Belle could actually have died from the blow. Why were the guys not keeping an eye on Belle? Her small stature would make her the most vulnerable out of the group and instead it looks like they’re just walking ahead an leaving Belle to trail behind them.
The library lift- I thought it had to be operated by two people, one in the lift, one to lower and raise it. At least that was how it was in season 1 without magic. However neither Rumple or Belle have magic and yet Rumple still managed to use the lift without assistance.
Regina still trying to control Zelena’s pregnancy- Regina has no right to take the baby from Zelena, I hope Zelena gets to keep the baby. Robin should have access as the father, but that baby should not grow up thinking Regina is its mother.
OQ Regina- Regina’s character seems so stilted now that she’s playing on the side of good rather than being morally ambiguous. This has occurred since OQ came about.
The writers changing Rumple’s reasoning for crippling himself during the ogre war- It WAS for Bae, so that Bae didn’t have to grow up without a father to be exact. Rumple wanted to avoid what happened between himself and his father from happening to himself and his son. It’s as if the writers are taking their best characters then bit by bit destroying them in order to make other characters look better by comparison.
Some of the cutting between the Storybrooke scenes and the Camelot/Brave land scenes seemed a bit choppy at times. It didn’t flow right.
Overall I enjoyed this episode. I would give it an 8/10.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixNovember 2, 2015 at 6:04 pm #311545killianhookfanParticipantI rarely, if ever, say anything negative about my beloved show.
With that said after last night’s episode there I sat, wine glass in hand, and asked out loud to no one in particular “What the Hades did I just watch??”
I feel like someone swept the floor of the editing department, bagged as much as they could fit into a ForceFlex Hefty bag, sorted through the dropping of every episode they have filmed thus far, and then forcefully created an episode of random subplots that were in no way related.
I don’t even know where to start.
Okay, the first scene. I love Belle and I truly feel the poor girl gets screwed out of screen time, so I surprised even myself when I didn’t understand why the heck she was there – glad to see her but I honestly forgot she wasn’t back in Storybrooke babysitting Neal as usual. Then there’s Merida who, I’m very sorry to any fans, just annoys me because I don’t see any point to her existence on the show in either human or bear form.
Rumple – oh, sweet Jesus. Does Robert Carlyle read his script and just start drinking? Note to writers – when the teacup has already been broken more than once it is no longer dramatic. We get it, Rumple = coward and he doesn’t think he will ever be a hero cause there was that one time he clubbed the holy heck out of his own foot. For clarification sake, thanks for the additional dialogue of exactly why Rumple clubbed himself – that was the point I poured myself a much larger glass of wine. Psychotic-Scottish-arrow-wielding-Dark-One-controlled-plotless-assassin goes after them and Rumple wisely decides leaving Storybrooke sounds like a fine idea. . . until Belle reminds him of the many reasons she has to stay. Please tell me I have missed something. I have watched every episode of this show at least twice and by my calculations Belle should have been telling him to move over because she could drive out of town faster, you know, due to his self-inflicted foot injury and all.
I don’t even know what to say about the hot mess of the “adventure” that Belle and Merida went on to save Merida’s brothers – I was too busy laughing at everyone in that scene. It was the most anti-climactic rescue mission ever.
Thank goodness Rumple had his magic “throw it in Merida’s face and she won’t be a bear anymore” powder after he was tossed like a rag doll across the forest so he could earn the well deserved title of “hero.” I love a good redemption storyline.
Dark One Emma and Zelena bonding over prison maternity stories while munching on onion rings. Just. No.
That mushroom and the Evil Arthur, and everyone in Storybrooke is either stupid or suffering from memory loss or both.
This was such a bizarre episode. Merlin’s mushroom had holographic video capabilities.
The struggle was real.
November 2, 2015 at 6:18 pm #311547The Swan PrincessParticipantIt was a nice episode in my opinion. Not the best of the season but still way better than whatever was the mess of the Frozen arc.
Favorites:
1) Belle’s outfit in Storybrooke. And the hair and just everything. Gorgeous!2) I LOVE the new Rumple. Yes he’s on team good, but he’s still himself. He is cunning, smart, manipulative and knows all of Emma’s darkest impulses. She won’t stand a chance.
3) Rumbelle are back together!! Yes I was hoping that Rumple would have to make up for everything he did and try to gain Belle’s trust for a couple of episodes at least but because of the Dark One Clippy thing he’s not 100% responsible for his actions and it makes sense for him to be good once the darkness is removed. So anyway yay for you you stupid kids, go fight Emma together and look adorable and love each other!
4) Zelena. Just… Pure perfection. And the possibility of the Dark Swan and Zelena working together is fantastic, like imagine both of them wreaking havoc in the town and having fun. Also they referenced Neal again! Maybe it’s a sign that they’ll be better from now on and actually consider him as an important character.
5) The part with the slow motion and the arrow slicing all the other arrows just, the coolest thing.
Least Favorites:
1) So Merida’s brothers seem to be 15, maybe 16 years old, taller than her, and they are shown in the movie to be tricksters, and are you expecting me to believe that they wouldn’t do anything to try to escape? That they won’t even say a word? Like come on.
2) The Rumple hero journey was WAY too short. Like one moment he’s on the floor being like “who is this please don’t hurt me the light is hurting me eyyes” and then 30 minutes later he’s like “hell yeah I’m a hero now I will BEAT YOUR ASS”
like please.3) WTF is wrong with Emma’s voice? Does she have to speak in this low voice because she’s EVIL now? Well I guess Rumple did it too, he spoke with this high squeaky voice in FTL, but I can’t hear this anymore. Just speak with you own voice woman!
You know what I can't continue with the dead people brought back to life list I'm out of space in the signature and now we have an underworld arc this is to much I quit why do you bring so many people back to life OUAT WHHHYYYY

IT was the quality of the bagpipes playing that upset her NOT the fact that there were bagpipes in the score…. I totally agree with her …. I have heard newbie bag pipers play better than that. -
