–Why did Nimue turn green so fast?
Because she is the First. So that makes her Uber-Dark One, not just regular dark one. I am curious as to why Emma is more pale and not green actually. In the Comic con promo they put some glitter on her skin but in show shes just a little bit paler than usual. Hmm. I would like to see have turned green if only for a brief while anyway.
Well, DO skin condition doesn’t carry over to Storybrooke. We did see her hand start turning scaly when she used magic to heal Robin, so it’s possible we’ll still see her in full DO makeup once she goes completely dark in Camelot.
Anyway, probably the most nonsensical thing about this episode was Merlin’s “I can’t stop Vortigan cause killing would turn me dark”. There’s probably A MILLION other ways he could stop him, why are the only options to kill or do nothing?

Liked:
The Nimue/Merlin story- It was beautifully tragic how Nimue became the dark one. I wish Nimue and Merlin could stick around.
Zelena- Zelena is fast becoming one of my favourite characters this season, just because she’s not giving into Regina and the other “heroes” plus she is wickedly funny.
Nimue as the dark one- Talk about battle of the sexes, it’s ironic that the most successful dark ones are female.
Charming’s sass towards Zelena- Out of Snowing, Charming is the more likeable of the two.
Disliked:
No Belle or Rumple- RumBelle took a break this episode. DO Clippy Rumple doesn’t count as real Rumple.
Hook’s attitude towards Emma as the dark one- It’s problematic in that, at the moment, the dark one is part of Emma. He’s rejecting part of Emma because he doesn’t like it. He’s said himself, he want to be the one to “break down” Emma’s walls. Hook wants to see himself as the hero in the relationship, the “rescuer”, the “strong” one. The thing is though, because we’ve had RumBelle deal with this situation and Belle handled the dark one issue beautifully, Hook’s handling of the situation with Emma pales in comparison. Belle encouraged Rumple to be the best he could be and to not give into the darkness, but at the same time she accepted that he was the dark one. Hook on the other hand rejected Emma because she wasn’t “his” Emma. I am failing to see the deep emotional connection between Hook and Emma as it is, even more so with the Emma as the dark one situation.
All magic comes with a price!

Merlin could have:
-Froze him.
– Turned him into an animal.
– Imprisoned him.
– Taken his heart from Nimue and did some other non-lethal thing to him.
– Taken away his magic.
– Trapped him in the Hat (yes, remember the sorcerers hat? Yeah sounds like that could have come in handy!!)
Merlin definitely had other options than just killing.

Mixed/Neutral:
-So Vortigan’s just a guy who enjoys a snazzy gold statement piece and murder. Alright then.
-Zelena
-Nimue’s village was named Oxleigh… because Loxley was already taken?
Dislike:
-Gullible Snow.
-Arthur. I just want to see someone put him in his place, preferably a liberated Guinevere.
-Merlin unwilling to kill Vortigan… but for some reason also unwilling to practice self defense.

It was a nice episode, it didn’t really have a lot of plot, but I enjoyed watching it.
Favorites:
1) I adored Nimue! Both normal and dark one. She just seemed so regular and human. Especially when Merlin was like “I will make myself mortal again” and she was like “alright but can we go back to the immortality thing we talked about earlier?”.
2) Zelena. Everything she does or says is gold. And I liked how she collaborated with Arthur. The Wicked Witch working with King Arthur is not something you see everyday…
3) I loved what Merlin said, about how it’s easier to deal with darkness when you think about it as revenge. It fits so many characters in this show. And I have a weakness for people wearing masks.
Mixed:
On one hand I liked Nimue being the first dark one. A woman with power, a woman who isn’t afraid to claim what she wants and do dark things. But then I hated the way they painted it in such a bad way. Like she talked to Emma about how they’re sisters and they need to fight to get what they want and it was like ‘OMG, a WOMAN is trying to take things into her own hands, she must be EVIL…’ Not that I’m thinking she was right in crushing that person’s heart, but it just really bugged me. And they did it before in this season too, when Emma kissed Hook in episode 2 or 3 (I don’t remember) and it was like “A woman is being sexual! That obviously means she’s evil”.
Least Favorites:
1) WTH was the timeline
2) The Holy Grail is something in Christianity right? And Merlin drank from it and said “thank gods” (I’m assuming he meant the Greek gods). That’s just stepping out of a line.
3) Nimue is the name of the lady of the lake, right? But in this episode she was just a regular person. Show, you can’t just give a character a name and say that they’re that character!
You know what I can't continue with the dead people brought back to life list I'm out of space in the signature and now we have an underworld arc this is to much I quit why do you bring so many people back to life OUAT WHHHYYYY
okay … the curmudgeon here … reporting in ….
Basically I liked most of the show …. but something that I am having a hard time swallowing ….ONCE has been very good about not mixing religion and the story line. I am having a hard time with the HOLY GRAIL a cup that supposedly relates to the last supper and Jesus sacrifice on the cross being converted to a sword an item of violence. As far as I am concern this I found this entire concept to be offensive. I do not think they should have used the HOLY GRAIL as a basis for a sword.

.I like science fiction and folk tales as much as anybody else but I think they should not use religious symbols and icons in a disrespectful way.
Gathering of Dark Ones at the end of the episode
That must have been a reference to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. The visuals and the lyrics fit.
I thought the gathering of the DARK ONEs were like VERY TALL JAWAS from STAR WARS… hooded with red shiny eyes… they even walked liked the JAWAS.
JEFF & COLLEEN did a detail comparison of this story to the STAR WARS mythology in their FIRST THOUGHTS PODCAST. I found it to be very interesting and on point. I have watched the Star Wars movies and animated cartoons frequently I could really see how that A&E did bring a lot of themes to ONCE.

HEY…..DOESNT ARTHUR HAVE SOME OF MANKINDS ORIGINAL FLAME???? In his trunk… he had it in his trunk of magicks….. But…we saw this episode that the only surviving ember was with Emma/Nimue…. What the heck is going on???
