.October 2, 2016 at 9:00 pm #328095RumplesGirlKeymasterGeneral: Mostly I thought this episode was pretty good. A bit better than last week’s, for me, because the scenes felt more cohesive and it felt like a traditional OUAT episode. The flashbacks were very dull but EQ vs Snow usually are post S2. Some really great performances from Bobby and Lana this week and some pleasant surprises.
About a 7.5/10
LIKED
–I like the idea of Zelena being temped to join the EQ because she’ll have someone like her. So much Zelena’s story is about loneliness and being alone in the world. It’s easy to see why she’d listen to the EQ.
–Eggy bread
–“I’m the Savior–if I can’t help people then who am I?”
–“Do you really want to hear about every time I tried to kill you?” It’s like the writers realize that no one wants to see any more EQ/Snow White flashbacks.
–Well, we’ve demanded an apology from Hook about all the horrors he’s inflicted on Belle over the years and we finally got one–and one that was free of snark and ego. Good for him. I am pleasantly surprised by this.
–Snow and Charming fighting the Count with ordinary objects = cool!
–Regina and Count’s swordfight was also well done.
–The people from the Land of Untold Stories aren’t the only ones with untold stories? And when those come out everyone will rip each other apart? Color me intrigued!
MIXED
–Many pretty costumes at the Count’s ball but is the Count from the EF? Cause the dresses worn are from a total different time period than what we see in the EF, even if the EQ did whip up a gown that looks closer to the Count’s time period.
–Rumple has a key to the Land of Untold Stories? How? Why? Remember when Rumple couldn’t make portals at all? But I guess he’s been shown to make portals more recently so it fits into recent “we don’t care anymore” canon.
–So Charming’s father is really dead. Okay, good, not retcon. But now it’s a murder mystery?
DISLIKED
–Operation Cobra part 2? Really? No.
–We’ve never met this handmaiden before but apparently she made herself indispensable to Snow! So much so that we’re going to throw a party for her!
–Emma trying to leave town with Snow and Charming: when has that ever worked without any sort of hindrance or consequence?? And what does the Count have to do with the barrier??
–The EQ’s evil-seduction of Rumple. MY EYES.
–The flashbacks overall were very meh. I would have much rather seen the actual Count of Monte Cristo story.
–How did Regina kill the Count when the EQ had his heart?
–Temple of Doom is not among the best sequels of all time, Henry. You disappoint me.

Liked:
Regina relating to the Land of Untold Stories and making them feel at home in Storybrooke!
Lana enjoying herself playing the Evil Queen in flashback and present day! She’s clearly having a blast!
The “Really B-” Look on Snow and Charming’s face when Regina explained to them who she hired to kill them. XD
Archie trying to help Emma during her therapy session. This session is long overdue!
The Mills/Charming moment at Granny’s!
Okay…Hook acknowledging and being remorseful about what he did to Belle! A step in the right direction!
Zelena’s snark along with Evil Queen/Rumplestilskin Scenes are always a bonus!
The Count is such a tragic figure, I really sort of feel sorry for him.
Double Dose of RegalBeliever…yes!!!!!! “Hi Sweetie…Mommy’s Back!”
Bobby as Mr. Gold and Rumplestilskin is golden! No matter what!
Regina fighting to save Snowing’s Life and trying to save the Count’s Life…she’s come so far!! But this conflict between the Evil Queen and Regina is so interesting!
EQ sing-songing like Rumple the “Tear yourselves apart”….I’m living for this!
Henry trying to explain sequels…
“You know how much I admire the ability to keep a secret.” Lol! I’m enjoying the WickedSisters, but I’d much prefer if they split Zelena from the Wicked Witch.
Mixed:
Dear God…another Operation Name! When will it end!Glad that the Adventurous Snowing are back, but let’s be honest…Regina’s helped you this far and you instantly think she’s turned her back on you!
Disliked:
Nope…nope…nope! I cannot see Evil Queen trying to sleep with Mr. Gold, not another man her mother slept with and her sister tried to sleep with, not to mention they always gave father/daughter sort of vibes, it’s just too icky! I am thinking RUMPLE just could not make or get a portal that took him to the LAND WITH NO MAGIC …. where BAE was …. I think they showed RUMPLE going to and from other lands without difficulty … as evidence by able to go to and from FRANKENSTEIN’S land and later … back and forth from ARDENDALE / FROZEN.
As for everyone else … those people without magic need the beans to travel thru portals. Have we seen those without magic travel without the help of , the Apprentice and those with magic.
AT least this is my take on the portals.

But when the dark curse was cast, Bae was still in Neverland, he went to land without magic much later after SB already existed, but then again NVL was not a place Rumple would ever set foot again, bc of the whole S3 storyline of father thing.
October 2, 2016 at 9:23 pm #328106nevermoreParticipantI thought this was actually a pretty good episode, with some great performances (mostly Lana and Bobby). Lana hits it out of the ballpark as both EQ and Regina. 7/10
Liked
Lana as EQ is a delight, terror that she is.
There is an effort, however shoddy sometimes, to address the stuff that’s at the core of OUAT, which is this issue of the relationship between reality, text, and imagination. Ok, the sequel stuff Henry was saying is a little silly, but points for at least trying to lace the plot through with the conceptual universe. Beats looking for magic mushrooms in the swamp.
Despite the pretty flat flashbacks, there is that small town feel again, and I actually don’t mind the sense of “mystery” and “not is all as it seems” that they’re trying to recreate.
I didn’t hate Hook. For the first time in, like, ever. He actually apologized to Belle, and was a decent, level-headed human. He was also not dominating every singly conversation.
Mixed:
Archie — it’s nice to have him back, and great that Emma is going to see him, but there’s something that feels shady about him.
Disliked
The Count of Monte Cristo story was not particularly interesting or well done, but at least it was contained to a single episode. Also, “Your eyes… Oh, thank you…” Telegraphic romance is telegraphic.
The whole Belle thing, and that stuff about wanting to do well by her son (Mofetus the amazing Oedipal child), just feels really flat and not engaging to me. There are literally no stakes to this story anymore. There’s nothing likable about the kid, and nothing particularly likable or salvageable about the relationship, in the way it’s been presented. At this point, I’m not even rooting for Rumple to sacrifice himself for his family and redeem himself — been there, done that. The only way I feel Rumple’s story will wrap up satisfyingly is if he’s reunited with Neal in the afterlife.
Oh for the love of all that is holy, why are they retconning the Rumple/Regina dynamic? That’s just not right. And sure, Bobby and Lana can pull it off because they’re amazing actors, but this just gives me the same kind of icky creeps as the Zelena/Rumple thing. If they want to throw in some more wrenches into the Rumbelle squeaky wheel, why not come up with a love interest for Rumple who isn’t, actually, symbolically or actually his kin?
October 2, 2016 at 9:31 pm #328111AKAParticipantI thought the episode was pretty good I would give it a 8 out of 10.
Liked:
Zelena, I believe is being true to her character. She is going to be fighting the urge to be partners with the Evil Queen because she needs to be accepted and loved and when it comes down to it will by loyal to which ever sister is willing to be part of her family. I think at her core she is insecure and lonely.
The fight scene between the Count and Snow and Charming was awesome. It is great to see them actually doing something productive in an episode.
Hook, Yes it is about time to apologize without any sarcasm. I was pleasantly surprised and happy.
Emma continuing to see Dr. Hopper, I think that is mature on her part, and the more we see of Hopper the happier I am.
I loved Regina’s opening speech at the diner to all the untold characters.
While I did not like that Regina killed the Count, I thought it was exciting and a little surprising.
I liked that yet again Rumple is at the center of all the stories, had the key to the land of untold stories.
Yet again, loved the flashback scenes with Regina and Rumple they do make the show.
Disliked:
Regina and Rumple sexual attraction? Never saw it, don’t like it. Almost feels completely WRONG. I have always loved any scene Rumple and Regina have been in because they play off each other so well. It has NEVER had sexual overtones and I would go even further and say that it has always been more of a father/daughter relationship. Why change it now, oh that’s right makes Rumple look even more sleazy than he already is.
Okay I guess I have to accept it, A and E have made Rumple the Big Bad. So not only did Rumple poison an innocent girl he yet again sold out the entire town except Belle. He did not even try and save Henry this time (although, would the Evil Queen hurt Henry?) I will not be surprised if he is the one who ended up killing Charming’s dad. I am actually starting to doubt he can be redeemed. This just breaks my heart because I fell in love with Rumple in season 1 and 2 because he was so completely redeemable. He was a man who was just trying to get back to his son anyway her could. He was morally ambiguous but not altogether evil. They have made a very complex character rather flat and that is just sad.

Well…. I guess one could say its just an enchanted object that goes to that particular realm. Like Jeff hat or that looking glass. How did he get it? Probably traded for it I assume. Its probably not much use to him since it only goes to a land he isn’t trying to get to.
Any way:
LIKED:
– EQ’s hair in the flashback and her slightly altered dress. Its the same dress she’s been wearing a lot for some reason, but I can see they made a change to it.
– Count was cool.
– RUMP AND EQ SCENE IN FTL. What was with that? I dont know. But I think I liked it. Kinda. Idk. (also, I don’t think it was supposed to be anything other than slightly creepy. I don’t want a rump Regina ship)
DISLIKED:
– Pretty much was an okay episode.
– Operation cobra 2. They need to give it a rest.
– Emma. Sorry.

General thoughts: A surprisingly decent episode.
Likes:
– Lana Parilla as the EQ was simply superb. SUPERB.
– Flashback Rumple. Always a pleasure.
– The planting of a few seeds, such as the mystery of David’s father’s death and the untold stories that might cause family fractures. I really am curious to see how these play out.
– The short dialogue between Regina and the EQ after Regina kills the Count. I like how the EQ points out that heroes are supposed to always find a win-win solution. This scene highlights how this isn’t always possible, and how sometimes you have to do undesirable things to save yourself or the people you love. This is a point that needed to be made on the show, perhaps more than once.
Mixed:
– The Hook and Belle scene on board the Jolly Roger. I really liked Hook’s apology. It sounded sincere, and was made all the more so by how he was attempting to help Belle. What I don’t fully agree with was how he said that he needed to forgive himself. Yes, he needs to, but he also needs to get to the point of deserving to be forgiven. I can see he’s trying to change, but IMO, he’s not quite there yet.
Archie — it’s nice to have him back, and great that Emma is going to see him, but there’s something that feels shady about him.
– Yes!! I got that vibe too! Maybe the EQ has his heart?
Dislikes:
– Operation Cobra 2. Give it a rest Henry.
– Belle seeking help from Emma and Hook.
– Emma insulting Granny’s matresses.
– Snow and Charming were wandering around with their weapons for no reason last episode, but were conveniently unarmed when the Count attacked them.
– How the concept of hiding out in TLUS came out of the blue. This just seemed like a plot device. It’s never been mentioned before, and I’m sure there have been previous cases where pressing pause would have been highly desirable.
– Emma. Sorry.
– Agreed. She still has that dead look from S5 and it’s starting to make her scenes feel a bit wooden.
