I am finding this show SO frustrating. It feels like they are half succeeding in getting back to the season one feeling, with some really nice character driven scenes, but then they do stuff that really bugs me. It drives me nuts that they have all the characters suddenly start using the same phrases, like Regina and Hyde and the constant references to “beware the untold stories” etc and now suddenly all of the characters have heard of the Land of Untold Stories in the past, even though it has never been referenced on the show before. Why wouldn’t most characters have chosen to go and live out their lives in a world where they basically don’t die and can be with the one they love?

It was done well enough that it didn’t feel like filler when I was watching it. They twisted a classic story and gave me that magic feeling I haven’t felt in a long time.
8.5/10
Liked:
– Transition from book to flashback. Haven’t seen that in a long time.
– The twist on Ella’s story. Very season 1 ish.
– Finding out why her name is Cinderella.
– Gus Gus!
– Snow and Charming convos. They felt real. Yes, go back and be a teacher!
– Jekyll meets Frankenstein. Yes!
– Hook sword fighting with Henry, and Hook interacting with Alexandra. They are doing a very good job with Hook this season.
– The ball was nice. Costumes great. The conversations between Ella and the prince were great. The chemistry felt real.
– Snow being able to understand Gus. That made sense and she helped get Ella her happy ending.
– Lady Tremaine was ruthless. In the present and past. Thought she was great.
– Lasagna scene was great! Anything with Mr. Hyde is fun in my book.
– I liked the Archie scene. Emma came in but did not know he was with a patient. So it’s not her fault. But Archie ending his session early with Grumpy was a little not ok. But her talking to Archie is great!
– Regina and Zelena scene.
– EQ is always good. Yay Hyde and EQ duo!
Mixed:
– The connection between the key and Rumple and Lady Tremaine. Are there multiple keys? How did Rumple get it? I feel like there is a missing part of the story that I hope they tell us.
– Rumple’s tape to Belle. Idk, it didn’t do much for me. I don’t really get the point of Rumple doing that. Unless that allowed him to track where Belle was.
– The Dopey explanation. Eyes rolling…..I don’t need to see it but the explanation was pretty silly.
– Couldn’t care less that Anastasia wasn’t one of the step sisters. For me, Wonderland was a separate show but since A&E said it was canon, and there were alleged big hints, it’s annoying.
Disliked:
– Ella basically bragging about her ring. Horrific timing.
October 10, 2016 at 5:07 pm #328533PriceofMagicParticipantA relatively decent episode. Season 6 so far has actually been one of the better seasons in a long time, not trying to fit a whole season’s arc into 11 episodes is definitely paying off.
Liking the Hyde/EQ pair up. I could ship them together even though they are currently just partners in crime. Loved how Hyde offered EQ his arm like a gentleman.
I’m hoping a RumBelle reunion is on the cards considering how Belle spoke of how important a father/son relationship is to Charming. Also Rumple sending something to his child, if A&E deny him the chance to be a father to his child, I’d be annoyed.
So is Mouse an official EF language now considering Cinderella and Snow both speak it?
Liked seeing Billy again in the EF it’s the same actor as well.
Snow is already thinking of Whale as a science teacher, has she forgotten he’s the town doctor or does she expect the rest of Storybrooke to suffer for her own selfish whims?
Hook is starting to grow on me as a character. However I think his current characterisation should’ve happened several seasons ago before Emma takes an interest. Hook’s series arc should’ve been learning to be a good man after spending so many years as “Hook”, not CS.
Is giving lady Tremaine a point stick to pick up trash such a good idea when she’d just stabbed Ashley with a pointy stick?
I disliked the fact that “Clorinda” is essentially Anastasia but without Anastasia and the character development. A&E should’ve kept the two shows separate then there wouldn’t be such an issue, but they brought on Will and said Wonderland is canon so they’ve screwed up both shows. Clorinda’s actress did well with what she had though
The Dopey explanation is so clearly to shut the fans up, though Grumpy’s comeback to Emma was good. It was rude of her just to barge in like that. What if it had been a patient who was starting to open up about some deep seated trauma? Emma would have wrecked that moment of release for them.
Overall, this episode has been pretty consistent with the previous two in terms of quality.
All magic comes with a price!

I did not pay that close of attention …. Did Archie’s office have a reception area? If not I can understand how EMMA invaded Grumpy’s appointment. I was thinking that Archie practiced out of his home and Emma entered directly into the living room when she entered…. BUT I REALLY COULD BE WRONG… will not know for sure until I rewatch.

I’m so happy Archie is back.
Bless Raphael Sbarge for how he plays this character. Every time he speaks, I can actually imagine him as that little cricket, perched on someone’s shoulder, giving them advice.

Archie works out of an office and whether or not he has a secretary is a moot point. You do not barge into a shrink’s office unannounced–those sessions are confidential by morality and by law. As soon as she saw Grumpy, Emma needed to leave and come back another time. That is his paid hour of time to talk about his issues. The fact that Archie made Grumpy leave to deal with a “more interesting” client is equally horrifying. I get that this is Emma’s show and she needs development vis a vis talking with Archie but the solution is simple: don’t have Grumpy there in the first place! The only reason he was there to was to drop the Dopey line which was written as a way to satisfy fan anger after the actor left/quit the show in a pretty public manner. The beginning of that scene makes Emma look egotistical and rude; it makes Archie look unprofessional (which he is since he got his degree from a curse) and equally rude.

Yeah I just think that’s so incredibly harsh on Emma. She’s going through a lot right now…like a vision where she dies!!!! So in a panic, she rushed to find Archie and obviously didn’t think to knock on the door. Once she saw Grumpy there, I believe she said she’ll come back later. It’s not like she forced Grumpy out. She was going to leave. It’s Archie if anything who looks bad here. The writers could have had Archie say “No it’s ok Emma, we actually just finished.” But instead they had him tell Grumpy they’ll pick it up next time which was pretty unprofessional. But Emma, I don’t fault her. If anything, she should be accused of being negligent, not egotistical and rude. If she insisted on Grumpy leaving, then that would be egotistical and rude. But that’s not what she did.

Other favorite thing is the Evil Queens scene with Henry, Emma and Hook. LOL ! Parrilla’s acting makes me smile so wide.

I remember ARCHIE having an office when he worked with HENRY but I thought the office was in a home…. the office he has now looks different from the one he had earlier with HENRY and when he got kidnapped and put on HOOK’s ship. I am planning to review the DVDs starting with season one…. have not done that in over a year. I also plan to review the episode when I get a chance.
I agree with you about the unprofessional actions of Archie. I do not remember how Emma handled it.My next question is what was the dust up with the actor for Dopey I had not followed it on social media because I was away from the internet for a good part of the summer so I missed it… …. . </strong

October 15, 2016 at 11:30 am #328709Jiminy’s JournalParticipant–Dopey is off getting his Masters? Are you kidding me? I was thinking it raises questions about the curse once again; even if his BA was granted by the curse it doesn’t hold any meaning outside of SB to any university because his BA is for all intents and purposes fake. It’s like in “Save Henry” when Gold used his contacts outside of SB to find Henry for Regina. The curse did not manufacture real contacts, only memories of fake contacts but any attempt to act on those memories couldn’t actually happen because the curse did not affect the world outside of SB.
Given that he runs an ice cream shop, wouldn’t he have a BS on Business?
–Anastasia. Anastasia. Anastasia. Say it with me: OUATinWL is CANON.
Me, this whole episode. It was CLEARLY meant to be about Anastasia.
Also, how much of this episode was ripped straight from the live action movie?
The only thing I liked was Rumpel’s poem.
Finally, Ella meets Snowing at the ball, right? But didn’t Rumpel already have the Fairy Godmother’s wand in “Snow Drifts?”
