So far I am really enjoying this season. When coming to the forums … I always love this thread . . .I like connecting with other ONCERS and seeing what they think.
What were your FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS from this episode 6 x05 . . . STREET RATS
INCLUDE ANY favorite dialogue too.
[adrotate group="5"]October 23, 2016 at 9:00 pm #329112RumplesGirlKeymasterGENERAL: This episode was fine. So far I haven’t been blown away and completely stunned by any episode. They’re all fine but not without issues in writing and character. This episode was no different. I don’t think we got much information in the way of Savior mythos outside of what we already knew–Aladdin is the Savior and all Saviors are doomed to die. And frankly his reason for why he’s the Savior– “thief with a heart of gold” –might match Disney canon but it does nothing to explain Emma and her condition and the Saviors at large. Are Saviors then individualized per kingdom? Are there any common threads besides “magic.”
Rating: It’s really hard for me to rate episodes like this because smaller stuff is good but the overall storytelling isn’t great. I guess a 6/10
LIKED
–Karen David looks stunning in the blue outfit.
–I agree with Archie; running through the woods is not an effective form of therapy. Emma, sit down and actually *talk* about your problems. Here’s a hint–they go far beyond your current visions.
–Aladdin calling Jasmine out on only caring about the welfare of the Kingdom once her own family was affected. The myopic vision of the royals is an ongoing issue on this show (poor peasants)
–Aladdin did the apple thing!
–Aladdin uses a monkey statue to get the diamond; Abu for the win!
–“If the baby dies, you die!” Seems fair
–Another locator spell? Seriously, what up with those this season?
–The hourglass and breaking of Jafar’s staff are all pretty Disney!Iconic.
–“It made me a mother. It gave me a family. I have actual magic in my life. I have you.” That’s it. That’s what this show is supposed to be; the love of community that informs your identity. It’s nice when Emma actually remembers this instead of focusing on one aspect.
–“Why does magic always have to be so literal?” This line pleases me.
MIXED
–Is this Deniz Akdeniz’s natural accent? Or is he doing a (bad) Cockney accent to demonstrate that Aladdin is more poor compared to Jasmine’s posh British accent?
–While Emma is telling the room about the visions, she looks predominately at Hook as if the rest of the room doesn’t deserve her attention. Later, after getting assurance that Snow/Charming forgive her, all she cares about is Hook’s feelings while Henry seeks solace from a stranger. Things like this really and sincerely bother me because it focuses on Emma’ romantic relationship instead of her entire spectrum. They make up for it later with Emma and Henry in the cave but you have to look at the whole spectrum.
–I wish it was easier to establish when Jafar’s flashbacks are taking place. You get no hint about any of this in Wonderland which distresses me. I get it’s pre-Wonderland but that’s really broad and Jafar was always so focused on his mission–again no side adventures as a vizier in Agrabah’s capital city.
DISLIKED
–Shouting “Open Sesame!” in an over the top manner actually works to open the Cave of Wonders.
–How exactly did Jasmine figure out that it was Aladdin she needed? Has she been luring men to the Cave of Wonders to test them?
–The adorable cute bird shows Aladdin rivers of blood and a skeleton. Oooookay. And Aladdin just trusts the visions from a bird who sits on the shoulders of the kingdom’s evil tyrant because…?
–Count the MacGuffins! The Scarab, the “Diamond of the Rough,” the Sheers
–Aladdin and Jasmine’s romance is lightening fast, like all the new romances on the show these days. It works only because of Disney.
–I’m really disappointed that Aladdin used the Shears. I guess he serves as a foil to Emma but there’s still no advancement in the Savior mythos; Aladdin has nothing to offer Emma except a way out. Also he’s been in SB the entire time! Of course!
–Emma lies to Hook. And Hook lies to Emma. Such a healthy relationship.

EQ did not kill ARCHIE or turn him back into a cricket …. such a lost opportunity. He does make a good baby sitter… but he looks like he is scared of the baby.
EMMA and the gang need some way to tell if Archie and everyone else are really are who they are suppose to be.
.
ALADDIN congers up RAIDERS of the ARC move with the monkey and the sword.
.
EQ and ZELINA at the beauty shop …. I am not sure if ZELINA should listen to EQ’s advise. .
.
Jafar …. I would not trust his predictions….. I also think as we learned in previous episodes / stories that predictions / proficiency are rarely accurate. 8:40
.
I LOVE that EMMA sees Henry as MAGIC IN HER LIFE.
Not fond of the Jasmine and Aladdin story …. although the parallel between Emma and Aladdin was needed … did not care for how it was depicted. I guess since Aladdin is not dead he will return in the future. . . .
ZELINA did turn Archie into a cricket.
OH HOOK …. you are going to save EMMA from herself … like she saved Hook from being the death, Dark One and HADES.

Or a way to activate all of the potential saviors for the finale!

Oh sure. Let’s just go straight up Buffy S7. Why not.

Liked:
Zelena, I love almost every scene she is in, and I love that she turned Archie back into a cricket, maybe he will be good luck for Robin (Mulan)
Emma and Henry in the crypt. I thought that was beautiful and what the show is all about.
Hook being a little shady if I am going to have to watch hook this is how I prefer him and I also I think he is ultimately looking out for Emma
Mixed:
I am somewhat interested in how Jasmine and Aladdin will play out? I was just confused and there are still so many unanswered questions, why did Jasmine end up in the land of untold stories? Why does Jasmine need Aladdin to save Agraba if it has already fallen and how does she know the fate of Agraba at this time? Is she really interested in him romantically or does she just need him to defeat Jafar?
I thought the crypt death of Aladdin was very predictable
Like magic locator spell, okay whatever
No major dislikes per say just blah, I guess after last week’s episode this was a let down

Nothing grand or special, but it was very entertaining at least!
Liked:
For those two seconds Raphael Sabarge had pretending to be the Evil Queen pretending to be Archie…you can tell that was fun for him! It’s good to have some Archie back!
Aladdin’s actor really surprised me….I had my initial concerns but he seems to be really in tune with the character! Especially the small quirks he had like the way he twisted his face or scratched the back of his head….I really applaud both him and Karen David (Jasmine) for bringing two iconic Disney characters to life! Their chemistry and way of acting was the highlight for me.
Evil Queen & Zelena sisterly bonding and malevolent planning…okay, I really liked it! And I’m glad to see they remember that the Wicked Witch of the West in Zelena was technically supposed to be far worse than the Evil Queen, and although it’d be easier and better to just split Zelena from the WWW, this will do.
The family rounding around Emma was nice to see, and I really hope to see Emma and Aladdin sort of bond over the whole savior thing, they look as if they could be really great friends.
Mixed:
So the shears can be used to cut off one’s fate? Okay, I guess I can take this answer. But at least show us when Aladdin used them, like was it after Jafar paid him that little visit in the season premiere?
And no one knew there was a crypt in the middle of the forest? Like seriously….in all 31 Years of Storybrooke…NO ONE knew there was a crypt in the middle of the forest…in a small town?!
Disliked:
NO ABU!!! So we could get flying monkeys in S3, but not one regular monkey in S6?!
NO IAGO! This episode really could have used some of that parrot’s wisecracking.

General thoughts: I was looking forward to this episode and really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The story was simplistic and most of the important questions were not answered.
Likes:
– The actors who played Jasmine and Aladdin.
– The Wicked Sisters scenes.
– Emma FINALLY telling her family about her vision.
– Aladdin telling Jasmine that her kingdom was suffering long before Jafar came along. Power to the peasants!! I wish someone would say a similar line to Snow!
– Regina saying what we’ve all been wondering – why isn’t she in Emma’s vision?
Mixed
– Aladdin’s accent. WTH?!!
– The shears. Fate, predetermination, choice – these are weighty topics. Trust OUAT to ‘cut’ through all the complexity with a quick snippety snip from a golden macguffin.
Dislikes:
– The many, many questions left unanswered in this episode. How in the world did Jasmine know that Aladdin had magic? How and why did Jasmine end up in TLUS? Why did Aladdin finally reject Saviourhood? How does Jasmine know her kingdom is in peril when she was stuck in TLUS?
– The predictability of the Jasmine/Aladdin flashbacks.
– The tracking spell able to link light magic together. Honestly, these tracking spells acquire new powers every season.
October 24, 2016 at 11:39 am #329167nevermoreParticipantThis episode, to me, felt like the epitome of filler. There’s something about this season that feels like it doesn’t quite gel. Often individual scenes and vignettes are quite good, but the way they come together is more “mystery leftovers salad” than an actual harmonious dish

Liked
The Evil Sisters bonding and gossiping over mani/pedis. With those ridiculous turbans. It was sort of delightful and absurd, especially with that lumberjack character as one of the salon workers. Ah, Mills women, you gotta love ’em, terrors that they are.
I actually didn’t mind Jasmine/Aladdin, but I thought their story was a bit flat. I did appreciate the one nod to the horrid, horrid class politics on this show — as in, the kingdom’s been suffering for a while, welcome to the 99%, lady. That was actually nice. At least they acknowledge that the nobility on this show are malignantly clueless narcissists, for the most part. And it makes me feel a lot more sympathetic towards Aladdin’s decision to not be a savior. Like, go fix your social justice problem before you go and look for a populist hero to sacrifice himself and distract the peasants from the bad schools and the unaffordable healthcare 😉 Also, hello Snow and the rest of the scooby gang.
Emma finally fessing up, with a little help from her friend “Evil!Archie”
Dislike
I can do without Rumbelle, but no Rumple except in (questionable) mention is a bit sad. I wish they’d actually try to integrate him into the main story in some capacity. It seems like his story is now completely divorced from the rest of the crew at this point.
Lets welcome the new addition to the ever expanding MacGuffin clan: The Golden Shears! They can sit over there, right by that mushroom.
Henry’s dynamic with Emma doesn’t really work for me. It’s like they’re not actually allowing Henry to grow up, and still write him exactly as they did when he was 10. The lack of complexity feels extremely awkward, and they need to address it somehow. And Emma’s focus hasn’t been on Henry — it’s been (and still is) on Hook. Therefore those supposedly touching scenes with Henry fall a bit flat because, lets face it, there’s not much emotional investment that translates on screen. Yes, the dialogue in that scene where Emma says that Henry’s the real magic in her life is lovely. But it needs to be backed up by real emotional weight, and I don’t think we’ve seen that work put into the show over the last few seasons to be able to buy it.

Given that Rumple played a HUGE part in making Emma the Savior, you’d think he’d have more to do this season besides slowly destroy his romantic relationship.
