I cant wait for this episode. I have a feeling its gonna be great!
November 6, 2016 at 9:00 pm #329923RumplesGirlKeymasterGENERAL: This is probably my favorite episode of the season, though not without some glaring faults. I liked a lot of the “true love” themes that were hammered home with Snowing, always the truest couple on this show. It’s been too long since the show focused on how powerful they really are. However, I still feel like this season is aimless; what’s the goal here? Is it just to let Lana act her heart out? Fabulous, but there has to be a point somewhere, right? The Savior storyline is going nowhere and as fun as it is to watch the EQ sass everyone, I don’t get where the show is going with this.
Rating: 8.5/10
LIKED
–“Sleeping Snow is my favorite Snow”
–“Prince Farming”
–Past!Charming without the horrid hairdo
–The water in the bottle is not actually too bad of a MacGuffin; It’s a continuation of last year’s plot! Yes, good!
–The tree is where Mary Margaret found David when he woke up. That’s adorable.
–“It’s good to be on an adventure with you again”
–“They’re gonna find that magical baby tree thing.” Even Hook can’t with this MacGuffin, LOL
–“You can overcome anything. Remember who you are: the product of True Love.” That was actually a nice Emma/Hook moment. He didn’t turn this into all about him; progress.
–“As if we need reminding.” Flashing through Snowing’s love story got me sorta misty eyed and nostalgic.
–The Evil Queen knows her Dylan Thomas.
–I will always be a sucker for the Snowing True Love music.
–Belle’s speech to Rumple in the shop was pretty great. She wasn’t shrewish but she was also honest.
MIXED
–Did we know that Blue Fairy could bigify herself in the EF?
–The second SB’s residents are in danger and not just the CharMillStiltskins, the town actually looks populated and not like a ghost town!
–Belle about Rumple, “He’s not acting like he could be!” No kidding, Belle. Two episodes ago you read him the riot act for acting a certain way.
–The chemistry that might exist between Rumple and Regina is less a byproduct of the story and more because of Bobby and Lana, two actors who would have chemistry with rocks. Their relationship was always mentor/mentee with huge overtones of father/daughter. So many people thought Rumple was Regina’s father for a long time. This “romance”/ powerplay really horrifies me.
–I’m glad that Snowing didn’t meet face to face in this flashback (which would seriously jeopardize “Snow Falls”) but this is a rather cringe-inducing way to have the main couple of the show “meet” before their first real meeting. Like, how did they not recognize each other’s voice or ever discuss it, even if they didn’t realize who was on the other side of the wooden door.
–Wait. Did Past!Snowing cause the Sappling to grow for the first time? So there was no true love EVER before then? Is that what I’m supposed to take away from this?
–“What if I fail?” That was the closet Bobby has played the Present!Rumple I used to know in a long time. Granted it all got overturned seconds later when his eyes went all revenge-y but…I’ll take it.
DISLIKED
–Longbourne is the home of Lizzie Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. Please leave Jane Austen alone, A and E.
–Of course Blue doesn’t have a way to counteract the Water. She’s basically useless.
–A sappling grown from the first spark of true love. That’s…convenient. The sappling that was “lost” was found by Blue’s wand shooting some light into the sky. LOL
–Was Charming just roofied by the Woodcutter?
–Where in the world did this trap door in the forest come from…?
–How did the EQ even put Snow under a sleeping curse when all she did was put Snow’s heart back inside her chest? And how do you manage to split the Curse between two people???

Like:
Snowing+Regina scenes were great.
Neat Flashback….A little Season 1 Feels.
WickedSisters+Rumple scenes were…interesting.
Okay, the twist in the curse was good.
Hook’s speech was actually pretty good!
Mixed:
Zelena’s green with envy shows in Storybrooke…how can it show now but there wasn’t a trace of it back in Season 3.
So…you mean to tell me that as much true love as Snowing are…they couldn’t recognize one another’s voice in their second meeting.
Again…if the Evil Queen had this much power back in the EF…why’d it take her so long to get her vengeance on Snow White?
Who’d really answer an invitation from the Evil Queen? Why did Storybrooke go to the graveyard if they knew the Evil Queen was waiting for them?
Dislike:
Ummm…I know Regina & EQ are split, but how could EQ just poof the true love stick out of Snow’s hand, and Regina not just poof it back. Like…I just don’t even know anymore.

Liked:
I really liked the Snow and Charming were the focus of this episode, I thought their first unofficial meeting was well done
I thought the Hook/Emma moment was really good (first time I will ever say that) it was incredibly sweet
I liked Belle’s moment in the shop with Rumple, I think she told him the truth (without being verbally abusive) and I think he was being honest with her at least for a moment. That is the Rumple and Belle we all know and miss.
I liked that the two sides of the heart have come into play, and I think it is a great twist.
I know it was contrived but I actually liked that the sapling was where they first met (although I do have a problem them stating it was the first true love ever?)
Mixed:
Shady Blue, I kind of got the feeling that maybe she sent the wood cutter after Snow.
When did EQ put a sleeping curse on the hearts and how?
Zelena telling Belle about EQ and Rumple, I am glad someone is actually telling Belle the truth but I don’t like the reason she did it. Regina, Snow, Emma, etc. all knew this was going on and none of them bothered to tell her.
Rumple right after we see a glimpse of the old Rumple he goes back to revenge Rumple
Disliked:
OK, Belle you actually do have a right to be angry right now whether you guys are together right now or not, he should not be making out with the Evil Queen. You should care because I think you still love him and understand that this is not the road he should be taking. Really Rumple, “It’s trite to say it did not mean anything,” THEN DON”T DO IT!!!!! Talk about morality I had a problem with Belle dating Will season 4 and I totally have a problem with Rumple making out with anyone season 6. Marriage is supposed to be two people who have devoted themselves to each other, I don’t like the message this show is sending.
Rumple and Evil Queen. Just because the writers want us to believe there was chemistry between Regina and Rumple since early on doesn’t mean there was. Sorry guys never saw it and still don’t. They were ALWAYS teacher/student father/daughter. I think it is actually insulting of the writers to try and say otherwise and that we watchers just didn’t get it.
November 6, 2016 at 9:31 pm #329938bibliophileParticipantI liked the Snowing love montage and I thought the heart twist with one of them always being asleep was a clever way to make the Charmings miserable without killing one of them.
I disliked the flashback with Snow and Charming meeting through a door and the sapling tree thing was stupid.
I hate the latest Rumple storyline where he’s with the EQ almost as much as I’ve hated basically every Rumple storyline since 4a. Granted there have been a few nice moments scattered widely over the last few years, but the show seems determined to rip everything we loved about Rumple and Belle in Skin Deep to shreds and now they’ve basically lit that pile on fire. Why can’t Rumbelle fans have nice moments to cherish too?

Beautiful cinematography in the teaser.
No music during Belle’s speech = Pay attention, this is important.
I know I’m not supposed to have noticed the EQDB or Blue’s heavy breathing, but it was right there in front of me.

November 7, 2016 at 8:35 am #329967nevermoreParticipantI really don’t know what to make of this season. On the one hand, some elements of this were really terrific. Snowing was actually touching and beautiful, and had a lot of throw back to season 1 that didn’t feel like just lip service. Lana’s sass is always fun to watch. But as a whole, the story itself doesn’t hang for me at all.
– The sleeping curse time share. I thought there would be some twist to the kiss — like she poisoned Snow’s lips or something — but this was actually better.
– Snowing were great, and I didn’t even mind the flashbacks.
– Hook’s little motivational speech. It was actually about Emma, and not about his man pain.
– Belle’s speech. Though the whole “he’s not being the man he could be” made me laugh. Yes, dear. That would be because the writers have no idea how to develop Rumple’s character beyond using him to move the plot along and power-up whichever baddie is currently creating problems. If anything’s been breaking the 4th wall for me with this show lately it’s the Rumple story line. It feels completely contrived and nonsensical, and, frankly, uninteresting.
At least the MacGuffin was quickly taken out of commission.
Confused:
Blue Fairy. She can aggrandize at will? And why was she hanging out in the woods with Snow? It seems completely out of the blue, no pun intended. It’s like they remembered “oh, wait, Keegar Connor Tracy is still on the payroll, lets utilize her”
The woodsman or whatever his name was. That was one ridiculous character. Especially his helmet. Seems like it would restrict his vision a whole lot, and only protect the top part of his head. Not sure why that would be a werewolf’s first line of attack, unless he’s after zombie werewolves.
Disliked
The whole Rumple/EQ mojo. Why? What’s the motivation for Rumple? Where is this past attraction coming from — it was never there! Wasn’t the whole point that Rumple kept Regina at arm’s length lest he be used to power the curse? The relationship was very much teacher/student in the way I read it. Making it about sexual attraction retcons a lot of what I thought was actually interesting about the show and simplifies what used to be a really neat dynamic for me.
Zelena. Why is she turning green? Aside from the technical aspect of greening in SB, wouldn’t she also still be grieving Hades to some extent? Her True Love died pretty recently at her own hand. Wasn’t she actually in love with the dude? Ugh, I can’t with this whole silly soap opera side plot, this part of the writing looks like bad fanfiction.

Yes magic mechanics aside, I think she’s turning green because once again Regina–the EQ this time–is getting everything she always wanted while Zelena isn’t, even if doesn’t really want Rumple anymore. It’d be nice if Zelena would bring up Hades to remind everyone that while the EQ has a new romance, Zelena just very recently lost hers.

Why on earth would they bring Zelena’s grief into this? It isn’t a Zelena episode, which means that her feelings don’t matter and her motives for doing things are based purely on what needs to happen in the plot… I don’t think I could watch this show if they actually allowed all of the characters to be layered in each episode, and not just the episodes that are based around them. :p
