This was historically bad for Jane Espensen for sure.
After thinking about this overnight, I have started to wonder if Jane only wrote the present day SB stuff–drunk Snow, Regina/Emma, and the ending with Gideon/Emma. While the last bit with Gideon and Emma was totally horrible and eyeroll worthy with the “Tears of the Savior” the other stuff was the only highlight, IMO, of an incredibly weak episode–so weak that many have noted that it’s Jane’s worst. So maybe she didn’t really have a hand in it?
Jane deserves a better gig than this, at this point.

I sincerely hope this is true. The storybrooke scenes were way better. I think we all agree that the bar scenes were the best.
April 3, 2017 at 4:27 pm #335535ry4christParticipant– Ariel gives Hook a shell so he can talk to her? SHE CAN CREATE PORTALS! SHE CAN GET YOU TO HER! Uhhhhh.
Daniel mentioned this in the initial reactions too, but has it ever been established that mermaids actually “create” portals that just anyone can go through like with the beans? I think mermaids can traverse realms somehow, but they can’t take people with them.
April 4, 2017 at 1:46 am #335558SkylerParticipantGENERAL: This episode needed less Jasmine/Jafar/Aladdin nonsense and more drunk Snow making random bets with Vikings. WOW, guys. What *was* this? It’s not morally bad like some others and I’m not even all that bothered by the predictable CS storyline resolution; but it’s just BAD. Like poorly written. Ooof. RATING: 5/10 LIKED –Aesop’s Tables LOL! –Unlike like 95% of Emma’s outfits this year, I actually like her red plaid jacket. –“They are supposedly artisinal. Which I think means STRONG.” LOL, drunk fun loving Snow is the best. –“Why is this rug flying!” “It’s a carpet. A magic carpet.” “It’s clearly a rug.” –“Do you ever not tattle?” LOL –“Son of a fish!” MIXED –“I was hoping I wouldn’t have to tell you.” Does Emma mean she didn’t want to tell Charming, full stop, but her conscious got the better of her? Or does Emma mean that she was hoping Hook would go and tell Charming? –Llamas in the desert had me rolling off the couch. Talk about a double take! –Where exactly is Hangman’s Island in relation to the EF? Why are Ariel and Eric there and not in his, y’know, kingdom? It was probably destroyed but why aren’t they rebuilding? –Did I miss something? How did Jafar know about Eric and Ariel, enough to fool Ariel at least? –How did Jafar’s lamp get to Ariel’s cabin from Wonderland? How did Jafar break his genie curse?! –I get that Emma would be sad but why isn’t she even more angry? Even a little bit? Hook LEFT. DISLIKED –Kraken’s Blood to make a portal. Oh please. End this incessant need to create new plot devices! –“Didn’t you hear the Captain. We have no Kraken’s Blood!” Really, that line tho. –“Come on, Princess. How many times are you go to avoid kissing me?” Dude, back off. If she doesn’t want to kiss you, then she doesn’t have to kiss you. If she wants to, she will. If she’s torn over if she does or not, give her SPACE. This is not a difficult concept. –The parallels being drawn between Jasmine and Hook and how they both feel guilty over their crimes so there they don’t deserve love. Okay, but…Jasmine refused to marry a bad guy; Hook killed people. There’s a very clear difference here. –Wasn’t it a bracelet that let Ariel walk? Not a necklace? Continuity alert! –Wow the CGI of the flight over Agrabah coupled with the super cheesy dialogue was baaaaaad. Like something you see at 3am in a C-level movie on SyFy. –Pretty sure that’s not actually Jafar’s lamp/bottle from Wonderland! –So the city is inside the never before seen ring and Jasmine used a vial of red powder to turn Jafar into a screaming staff? I just want to make sure we’re all on the same page here cause WOWZA. –A shellphone. Get away from me, show. –Tears of a Savior that can interrupt the shellphone! STOP THIS. STOP IT RIGHT NOW.
I am not even gonna bother writing my likes/dislikes because you covered them all to the letter.
Only thing to add is, if this is the last time we see Jafar I am going to flip lol

I am just happy that my gdS stopped watching ONCE cause some of the stuff they are putting out for 8pm family hour show is not acceptable okay for later in the night but not for younger kids.

Jafar was a bad*** in Wonderland, but here? He’s so weak! Why didn’t they just make him a different character? Where does his story fit in with Wonderland? I thought Jafar’s father was the Sultan of Agrabah, so unless this happened AFTER he was imprisoned as a genie then it doesn’t make any sense! Or am I missing something here?
WHAT IS GOING ON?
"so there’s this new show….."
"there’s lesbians in it"April 5, 2017 at 1:01 pm #335597TheWatcherParticipantDaniel mentioned this in the initial reactions too, but has it ever been established that mermaids actually “create” portals that just anyone can go through like with the beans? Both have been said. Rumpel has said that mermaids can travel between realms in S3, but Poseidon states that Ariel found him and “brought him through a portal” in S4. Which is weird because I believe in season 3 it also was stated that mermaids couldn’t bring people with them when they traveled realms.
So…once upon a continuity errors.
EDIT: I just checked the wiki. It says they can open portals and travel between realms, but cant take people with them through portals. But again, Ariel did it. The writers just don’t care. Rump could have threatened a mermaid or two back in his day to open a portal for him, but ran afoul of the REAL sea witch who told him to back off so he stopped. I’d forgotten about Ariel and Poseidon (although you would think gods would be able to create their own portals to traverse realms).

I like this. That’s what I’m going with too.

Right? Zeus can bring people back from the day, you mean to tell me his brother can’t go where he wants. And Poseidon is the father of all merpeople (in mythology right) so why doesn’t he have the power to world hop.
This darn show…

I think that is because MERMAINS can travel from realm to realm via water … Poseidon as king of the sea can breath under water so he can go with Ariel … I would think land lubbers would die traveling thru water unless they had an air tank…. JMO
