I’m disappointed. The promo was intriguing but this makes it sound like a retcon and macguffin fest. Also, Golden Queen – WHY? Not only is she the daughter of the woman he once loved, she is the person who locked up his current love for 28 years! Has he forgotten that? Is it inconsequential to him? Is this supposed to be the straw that’ll break the hearts of all Rumbellers once and for all?

I dont hate it. Any kind of scene these two have had together has always turned out great. I really dont see the problem or why people are so grossed out by it.
Sure their history, from what we have seen, theyve mosty been enemies. But its a power thing between them. Its not like they are gonna fall in love…I dont think…
Belle and Rumple really never did fit well together in my book. I think Belle should go hook up with Grumpy and make him Dreamy again 🙂
And the Rumple character,, I feel, is better when he is alone.
Why is everone so mad at the Rumple-EQ thing?
Because at the most Rump and EQ have always been frenemies, and at the least he is a something akin to a father figure to her (he raised her in a way, and he was in love with her mother. If things had gone differently, he would have been her papa. I’m sure they both know this.). Their previous interactions have never hinted at anything remotely romantic or sexual in nature. Its just sort of out of the blue. It doesn’t fit with what we saw about them before to say the Regina deep down inside is attracted to Rumpelstiltskin. Zelena makes sense. But not her.
And EQ should still be in love and angry at the deaths of Robin or Daniel anyway. I would assume that is whats motivating her. For her to be all over Rumpel, while I admit I find it interesting, its kind of forced and spontaneous.

They had to grow on me. While I ship RumBelle…. *whispers* I still think Cora/Rumpel is more of something i’d have been more on board with 😛 *hides in corner of shame*

OUAT press releases have a notoriously tenuous relationship to the actually existing plot, and usually emphasize the potential for drama.
I mean, what budding romance, exactly? Based on the acting, Rumple looks like he’s enjoying EQ’s advances as much as he might an ingrown toenail. And based on dialogue, didn’t EQ just flat out say she wasn’t actually interested in Rumple, after he called her out on it?
What I think is happening here is that A&E need Rumple to get on board with helping the heroes. Usually that happens when one of the heroes blackmails him. So my guess is that Regina somehow “recorded” the kiss and is going to use that to strong-arm Rumple into helping their cause, which is the usual MO.
It’s amazing Belle isn’t more fed up with the fact that every time someone discovers something unsavory about Rumple, their first thought is “Hide from Belle and blackmail Rumple!”
I actually have a far-fetched theory that the shears have to be used willingly – i.e. you can only use them to cut away your Sav-estiny, which is why Jafar gave them to Aladdin, instead of, you know, just waiting for him to fall asleep. So Belle would have to want to cut away her destiny, and I think that if she discovered this “romance,” she would be pretty motivated to do so.
I also have a suspicion that Rumple’s self-loathing is strong enough that he believes Belle and the baby would be better off without him, but that he also knows he would never have the strength to cut their ties himself, thus setting this up.
I very much miss Rumple being the smartest guy in the room. It is possible that there was a deleted scene where they couldn’t get his brain back after Zelena needed it for her spell, and they wound up splitting Charming’s so they could each have half instead?
I think the press release is incorrect when it calls the Rumple and EQ alliance a “burgeoning romance” much like it was incorrect when it said Belle was afraid of Rumple. That kiss was not romantic, it was a power play like Cora in season 2.

This is a good point, because otherwise, wouldn’t Jafar have just used to shears on Aladdin himself?

exactly! Its a complete power play between them, nothing more.. Like in the flashback where Evil Queen Regina says something like “oh the student has outdone the teacher” and thats when Rumple sniffs her.
For a different convo, you could say that it is a bit disturbing how, when ever they are displaying any kind of sexiness on this tvshow, it is shown to be someone holding power over a nother… But I wont get into that here.
