A highly anticipated episode! Did it live up to your expectations? What were your favorite and least favorite moments of 704 “Beauty”?
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 27, 2017 at 9:00 pm #343787RumplesGirlKeymasterGENERAL: Skin Deep holds an incredibly important place in my heart. It’s what brought me fully into this fandom, to these forums, to the podcast. Even through all the pain and nonsense OUAT has put me through over the past 4 years, there are a few episodes that remind me just how powerful this show once was and how much I sincerely loved it with a kind of obsessive passion. If Skin Deep was the first act of a movie, this was the much needed second act. Yeah, there’s plot spaghetti and some stuff going on with characters that don’t hold my interest as intently, but this was the ultimate goodbye for Rumbelle and while it wasn’t as perfect as Skin Deep was (is), it was still incredible.
Best episode of the season. And best episode the show has done in a very long time.
9.5/10
LIKED
–“I can’t even remember the last time I used the dagger.” Wow.
–“I had an ex-girlfriend…” We nailed at least one of the LGBT characters! Money is still on Drizella for her potential love interest.
–Alice is excellent. More Alice. Tons more Alice. I takes a lot for me to forget Sophie Lowe and OUATinWL but Rose Reynolds is the best part of this spin off so far.
–Roni makes a cocktail called “Poisoned Apple.” That’s some good pun-age, OUAT. Classic pun-age.
–“All I want is a life with you, Rumple.” I love that the show is embracing the idea that happily ever afters don’t mean immortality and that death is just the next part of the story. Death comes for us all and happily ever after means living life as best you can. Rumple could have had even longer with Belle (and Gideon, and Neal) if he hadn’t been so power hungry for so long. I really do hate that the writers kept moving him back and forth for the sake of drama.
–“We need to find your spawn!” I kinda like Ivy.
–“I wanna build our home with our own two hands” *Rumple throws down the dagger* I actually got incredibly emotional. Like actual tears. Rumple desiring mortality and wanting a happy life is what I’ve longed for for so long.
–Rumple catches Belle as she falls off a ladder, opening a curtain. Yeah, I’m gone. There are a lot of emotions.
–“You have to believe our love is powerful enough to outlast death…”
–Bobby and Emilie…..amazing chemistry for a story that has taken some truly weird twists and turns.
–“I took the dagger for one son; I won’t give it over to another.” There he is. There’s my Rumple. I’ve missed him.
MIXED
–It *is* like 2015-2017 in Storybrooke, yes? So someone explain Rumple’s incredibly old Polaroid camera….Even if he doesn’t want to use his phone there are a few more modern options, lol. The town isn’t actually stuck in the 1980s.
–I hate random prophecies inserted into narratives because the writers have written themselves into a corner. But I do like the name “The Edge of Realms.” Feels very fairy tale.
DISLIKED
–Lucy’s costume consists of an actual paper bag over her head….
–LOL at Belle’s long gray streak that is so completely unsubtle.
–Some context on where Rumbelle are would be nice; seriously, how is time moving so fast for them! Also, how did they even get to these places? Rumple creating portals rubs me the wrong way.
–Belle’s real translation doesn’t actually make a lot of sense but whatever.
–Soooooooooo Alice isn’t Rumbelle baby?! That blows. That was a rock solid theory. She’s Roger’s kid. UGH. Come on! This reveal almost knocks down my rating to a 9!
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 27, 2017 at 9:02 pm #343788nonnieParticipantLOVE:
REGINA/ RONI in a MARILYN MONROE costume … does anyone under 30 yr knows who she is?
Tilly / Alice is growing on me …. love her go to Hxxx attitude.
LadyT … shaking in her boots
Loving Rumple & Belle, Loving Rumple & Belle, Loving Rumple & Belle,
Loving Rumple & Belle, Loving Rumple & Belle x 20,000 .
I think Tilly is going to / has spark Rumpelstiltskin / Weaver’s memory …. YEAH she has!
EASTER EGG …. The movie UP … same house, similar music, story-line / plot the same.
NOT SURE:
HENRY & JACINDA … I think he has more connection with IVY …
Lucy is kind of flat … …
Dislike:
ABC marketing releasing the best scenes of Rumple and Belle as sneak peeks to TV GUIDE…. ruined the moment because I was avoiding spoilers for this episode.
BELLE’s death … Why did GOLD / RUMPLE show aging but no one else did?? I do not care it was suppose to be 30 years time frame. … I just do not like it.
RATING >>> 8 / 10 …. looking forward to next week.
October 27, 2017 at 9:48 pm #343799AKAParticipantI am not an overly emotional person and there are very few times that OUAT have made me cry (not tear up but cry) this episode was one of the five that did it. WOW!!!! I give it a 9/10
Liked:
I loved the opening Rumbelle scene with Rumple and Belle with baby Gideon. That is who this couple has always been sweet, family centered, and a little angsty.
“You have to believe our love is powerful enough to outlast death…”
THIS is what got me. This has always been the heart and soul of this couple. Rumple truly believing that he is loved, that he deserves that love, and that he can be worthy of that love, and that love will be EVERLASTING. Belle is telling Rumple again that their love is more powerful than even the dark curse.
I loved the montage of classic Rumbelle scenes I thought that was really well done and emotional.
I will miss Belle and Rumple (Robert and Emilie have amazing chemistry) and their dynamic but I do think it is very romantic that Rumple’s motivation is to find a way to become mortal so he can meet back up with Belle in the afterlife. They are searching for a happily ever after not a happy ending.
“I took the dagger for one son; I won’t give it over to another.” There he is. There’s my Rumple. I’ve missed him.
THIS ALSO!!!!!
Alice/Tilly: I love this character she is fun to watch and really brings something to the show.
Ivy: She is growing on me faster than Cinderella
Mixed:
True Love Kiss? Why wouldn’t that break the curse we have always known that is would but Rumple did not want it to so it didn’t.
Gideon trying to play a younger man was a little stunted and forced
Ivy/Henry are they trying to set up a relationship here? Can Ivy being secretly evil by trying to turn Henry’s eye towards her? They seemed to have more chemistry than Jacinda and Henry
Alice being Roger’s daughter, they should of held onto that mystery a lot longer than episode 4.

After three so-so episodes we finally get a good one. The best in YEARS.
That Rumple after six years finally chose his wife over being the a Dark One and they had a multi decade marriage with no deception and trust.
So-So
Poor Adelaide Kane to go from a show with such a we’ll written character to Ivy who seems to be a composite of every mean girl character in high school movies from the last 15 years. It felt like I had heard some of her lines verbatim in other stuff.
The actress who plays Victoria is just now seeming to find her footing acting wise with this character. It felt like Lana gave Regina in early Once episodes a lot more passion under the surface versus Gabrielle who plays Victoria with such a rigid coldness that it’s hard to connect, dislike or even root for her like I did with Regina.
Disliked-sorta
Roni replacing Mary Margaret as the hope speech giver.
October 27, 2017 at 10:00 pm #343804bibliophileParticipantAs expected there were a lot of tears shed tonight. I should probably be drinking water right now rather than typing.
I wouldn’t say this episode was as good as Skin Deep but it bookends it nicely and if they would care to sell the two episodes as a single movie with a few minor edits to take out unrelated plot points like ‘girls night’ and ‘Lucy’…it would certainly sell to me.
Emotionally I loved this episode, I’m just not sure if the actual content works or not. I found Belle’s translation of the fairy text (was it my imagination or did Rumple show a little disdain at the mention of a ‘fairy’ text?) hard to understand. I’m not sure why Belle had to die when her death doesn’t seem to have changed anything. I was expecting some sort of true love’s kiss to do…something like maybe break the dark curse and release Rumple from the dagger once and for all. A human Rumple would be an interesting change. Even if I am looking forward to seeing the Dark One firebomb Tremaine at some point.
As for this guardian gobbledygook…I don’t know. He needs to find the guardian so they can what…kill him and become the new dark one? Break his curse so he can die? Will the final shot of Rumple in Once be him and Belle meeting in heaven (bonus points for a Baelfire sighting!). Is Alice The Guardian since he ran right into her after portaling out to find this guardian? Or is it Henry who sped by moments later? Will any of this make sense by Christmas?
Once again it can’t be overstated how good an actress and character Alice is. She is the best thing this new cast has to offer by a mile. Let’s hope they don’t ruin her with too much lucidity. I am disappointed that she isn’t a Stiltskin. Could we maybe trade out The Black Fairy and get Alice christened into the Rumbelle family please?
And Rumple wasn’t awake as Weaver after all. That must be one heck of a powerful curse to fool the Dark One. Must be all the years of abstaining from using the dagger. Oh well, he’s awake NOW and I’m looking forward to seeing him beat Tremaine at her own game.
October 27, 2017 at 11:11 pm #343828StahlopParticipantWow! Great episode. Let me just say, I’m not a Rumbelle fan in the least. I’ve never been a fan of Emilie DeRavin as Belle, but they both shined in this episode.
Liked:
Ivy and Henry together. They have so much more chemistry than he and Jacinda. Too bad that relationship is already established via Lucy. I think Ivy will make a play for him just to toy with Jacinda.
Roni’s Poisoned Apple drink and Henry saying it needed cinnamon.
Weaver being awake now. Don’t forget, he was asleep during the original curse as well until he heard Emma’s name. And knowing that he gave Alice the teacup to remind him makes me think he knew the curse was being cast (just like he wrote Emma’s name over and over to wake him from Regina’s curse).
Victoria is going to be in some trouble now!
Mixed:
I’m still out about Alice. I know everyone seems to love her but she annoyed me at the beginning of this episode and gradually grew on me. I’m definitely agreeing that she is Wish Hook’s daughter with that last scene.
While I liked the Up tribute (along with house and music), I wish it would have been with any other characters than Rumple and Belle. I’m glad they got their happiness, but since I’m not a fan, I didn’t like it so much.
Dislike:
Regardless of my feelings for Belle, I didn’t like that she died. I really didn’t want to see any of the original OUAT characters die.
Waste of the actor playing Gideon. I would’ve liked to see that relationship with his parents.
Was Henry really driving that motorcycle so fast that he didn’t recognize his grandfather standing right there?
Also, was the Edge of Realms somewhere that required a portal? I thought it was more of a four corners thing, where many of the realms touched.
I really hope they explain why portals are just springing up all over the place. It’s getting quite annoying knowing how hard it was to acquire beans previously.
All in all, I do find this the best episode so far this season, even if it’s with characters I like the least. Both did an excellent job. Rumple felt very Harry Potter to me in the epilogue of the final book. I just wonder how he will fare now that he is awake and remembers everything.
October 28, 2017 at 12:36 am #343833WickedRegalParticipantWhen I tell you this was the best episode of this season, and I’m just gonna say it…this may just very well be one of the top three episodes of the whole Season 7!
Rating: 8.5/10
Liked:
Alice is definetly my favorite new addition this season! Her mysterious goals, spunky attitude and resilient nature, gotta love the girl! Looking forward to her adventures with Rumple.
Bobby & Emilie sold the s*** outta this episode and were giving me such Season 1 Feels, I was blown away! Seeing Rumbelle have their happily ever after was so wonderful, I dismissed from my mind half of the mess Rumple did these last few seasons.
Rumple’s growth!!!! (Stands up and claps) He spent his last decades with Belle living as he would if he were mortal….he was finally willing to give up his magic just to grow old and die a happy man with the woman he loved….he was a good father to Gideon! Yes, yes, and yes!
“The Poisoned Apple”….did I mention I love Roni?!!!
Rumple waking up! Let the games begin!
Regina giving these hope speeches, my girl is the Cat Grant of Once Upon A Time, and I’m living for it!!!!!
Mixed:
You guys…I’m a little conflicted. On one hand, I’m Team Henry & Cinderella….on the other, I feel like I’ve been bit by a bug named Team Henry & Ivy. I’m sure it’ll pass, but right now…I’m definetly conflicted.
Dislikes:
Not enough Roni.

October 28, 2017 at 12:38 am #343835StahlopParticipantJust thought of this.
I’m confused about the time line prior to when they arrive at the Edge of the Realms.
Belle and Rumple Leave Storybrook and travel around the Realms and eventually end up back in the Enchanted Forest because they are living in rumple’s castle. At least 18 years have gone by and we know that the EF runs concurrent to Storybrook. So have 18 years gone by in Storybrook as well?
Also, how did Rumple end up in the alternate EF? Obviously through a portal, but you have to think about where you’re going. He was either thinking about being near family (hence almost getting run over by Henry), or finding the guardian (which could possibly be Alice). Either way, it’s odd that that’s where he ended up. But at least we now know how he ended up in the curse.
October 28, 2017 at 12:57 am #343836Reginastwin3ParticipantPro: I have a new ship: Ivery.
Cons: Not much this episode was good, still have a hard time with acting with the actress that plays Cinderella.
I am a nerd at heart.
