–It *is* like 2015-2017 in Storybrooke, yes? So someone explain Rumple’s incredibly old Polaroid camera….Even if he doesn’t want to use his phone there are a few more modern options, lol. The town isn’t actually stuck in the 1980s.
Rumpel likes things that have a history. He runs a pawn shop, and he’s been collecting Stuff (not stuff; his stuff is Stuff) for centuries.
–LOL at Belle’s long gray streak that is so completely unsubtle.
Dying-Belle’s wig, which didn’t move at all every time she crumpled her face.

I don’t mind this. It isn’t like the production couldn’t get access to a camera phone or more up-to-date camera model if they wanted to use it on screen. Lot’s of people like to use vintage camera’s these days, and I could totally see Belle/Rumple being more interested in vintage items than the latest HD camera 😉

It wasn’t perfect, there’s stuff I can nitpick, but my major takeaway from this ep is that it was actually about the characters. It actually made me feel something because I believed what the characters were feeling. And that’s a feeling I haven’t had after an ep of this show in a good long while.
I’m kind of annoyed that they haven’t been writing this well the whole time. Why did they have to put us through the last several seasons of nonsense plots and stupid random magical watzits and people acting woefully out of character, when they had the ability to write something like this instead?
October 28, 2017 at 10:15 am #343852hjbauParticipantI think Ivy flirting with Henry is silly. Ivy seems like more of a villain then she did because she is messing with Ella just for fun. I don’t think she actually cares about Henry. I think the idea that the relationship is with Alice and Drizella seems most likely now.
I still think it is weird that Victoria seems to care about Lucy. She is really her grandmother it seems, in more then name. Ivy thinks that Lucy is now the favorite child in her mother’s life, which does more to suggest that Anastasia was the previous favorite child and that most likely Ivy killed her.
I do think that on one hand we have Alice who knows stuff about Rumpel. She has the chipped cup. She knows who he is. She thinks he was a good man. Then on the other hand, Hook is looking for his daughter and the writers said that Alice is related to multiple people.
I think that it is possible that Rumpel just got confused when he entered the Enchanted Forest 2 and Alice ran into him and Henry went by on his bike. Rumpel thought it was Alice that was supposed to help him, but it was probably Henry. Also, it seemed like Rumpel knew that the curse was going to happen again and made a plan to regain his memories just like he did for the first curse.
It might just be Victoria that did the curse, but i still think it is more likely Alice. It seems like Drizella is more of the villain then either of those characters though, so it might be her even though i think it makes no sense at all for it to be her and for her to still be working for her mother doing things she doesn’t want to do all the time.
Right now Victoria has her memories as does Rumpel. Alice did for a minute but the pills are suppressing it. Lucy does, of course, but we don’t know about Drizella. Everyone else is cursed.

All those years when they made Rumple go back and forth, back and forth and we could have had *this* sort of a story!

Victoria (and now Rumple) seems to be the only one with memories of the past. Lucy seems to know, but she’s not mentioned anything about her life with Henry and Cinderella before the curse. We saw at the end of Season 6 that Henry was taken or attacked by something and then fairy version of Tiger Lily came to bring Lucy to her mother and the next time we saw her she was riding a bus to go find Henry. I’m wondering if Lucy knows just enough to try and convince Henry but doesn’t really remember her life in the EF.

I second this notion. I haven’t really enjoyed an episode of OUAT in a long time, but Bobby and Emilie totally nailed it. The range of emotions between these two talented actors and the way Belle and Rumple faced the end brought tears to my eyes. If I squinted really hard and tried not to think too much about the past four seasons, then I could almost say it was wonderful. If we could go from the Rumbelle wedding and just forget everything that happened between them afterwards like the lies, the cheating, and the addiction to darkness, then I’d say it is my favorite Rumbelle episode since Skin Deep (the only I really liked). Nevertheless, it’d hard to not question why TLK never seemed to work for Rumbelle. Why didn’t it work? I’d always assumed that the reason TLK didn’t work was because Rumple’s true love was his dagger, but once he let go of it, his true love should have been Belle. So, it makes no sense why their kiss wouldn’t just free him of the dark one curse.

Liked:
– Rumple and Belle throughout the years was beautiful. This was the character development I’ve been wanting for Rumple since Season 2. Watching him drop the dagger and not use the power for decades was amazing to see. I sincerely hope whether the show continues on to a S8, that this season ends with Rumple ridding himself of the dagger and being reunited with Belle. I didn’t think they could ever redeem RumBelle after Seasons 4-6, but they really did.
– Alice was so much fun! I love how she speaks in riddles and she really held her own in her scenes with Robert Carlyle which is no small feat!
– Drizella finally getting some character development. I’m definitely intrigued to know more of her backstory. I’m already sympathizing with her.
– Roni/Regina continues to give the great advice that comes from the past 6 seasons of her character development. Loving it.
– Rumple is awake!!!!!!!!!
Mixed:
– Alice got to be “awake” for the episode which was awesome, but now she’s not thanks to her “pills.” Perhaps Rumple will take them from her?
– Belle’s makeup was great in her final scene as her oldest – in between…not so much lol. #thatsnothowgrayingworks
– While I did find it hilarious that Lucy wore a brown paper bag over her because Ivy wouldn’t help her with her makeup, I wish Lucy would have dressed up as someone from Henry’s book. That would have seemed more in character for her to use this as an opportunity to “bring the book to life.”
Disliked:
– Why didn’t True Love’s Kiss break Rumple’s Dark One Curse like it began to in Skin Deep? Because it’s different/stronger now? I wish they would have at least Oncesplained (to use Jeremy’s word lol) some kind of nonsensical reason, rather than not addressing it all.
– They definitely could have handled the “fairy prophecy” thing better. It was confusing and felt too convenient.
– It would have been nice to have seen Emma Booth’s character again this episode, even if just briefly since they ended 7×03 with the reveal of her.

It was actually a different actor though, right?
Pro: I have a new ship: Ivery.
I was thinking “Hivy,” but that is so much better haha

Very well said.
I still think it is weird that Victoria seems to care about Lucy. She is really her grandmother it seems, in more then name.
What makes you think Victoria actually cares for Lucy? I think that’s just how Ivy perceives it, or maybe Victoria “fake loves” Lucy just to upset Ivy.
I’m wondering if Lucy knows just enough to try and convince Henry but doesn’t really remember her life in the EF.
That makes sense. I’m interested to see how they show and explain that.
Nevertheless, it’d hard to not question why TLK never seemed to work for Rumbelle. Why didn’t it work? Exactly. I wish they had at least come up with a random reason for why it wasn’t working rather than just ignoring it. I hate when shows don’t follow their own rules and this is one they’ve been pretty consistent with up to this point.

Lucy’s skeleton costume may have been a Day of the Dead reference. It works out-of-universe as a nod to the actress’ heritage and in-universe for its significance to the cursed personalities:
Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. It is acknowledged internationally in many other cultures. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
On a sillier note, the costume (complete with paper bag mask) could also refer to the mostly-headless Australopithecus skeleton known as Lucy.
