After a few weeks away, we’re back! What were your favorite and least favorite moments of the penultimate episode before the big break, “One Little Tear”?

.
.December 8, 2017 at 9:28 pm #344921AKAParticipantI liked this one for the most part 8/10
Liked:
Rumple and Bae: This made my heart melt. I love that Rumple was trying to save Ivy and Victoria’s relationship. It shows tremendous growth that Rumple cared enough to open up to Victoria in an attempt to get Victoria to see the value of the daughter that she has. He has always had a soft spot for parent/child relationships but he really tried very hard to get Victoria to see the light
Ivy: They have really developed a complex character in her and I love it. She goes from villain to victim and back so many times in just this one episode. The great thing about her character is that she really is both. She is a very hurt and angry little girl who just wants her mother’s love. The actress by the way is outstanding!
Victoria: She went back and forth in the episode also and I actually doubted myself for a minute thinking maybe she was not going to be a horrible person. She was a truly a good person who fought hard for a family that just wasn’t going to succeed, and in that failure and the loss of her daughter she turned angry and bitter. I think the fact that her husband had a choice and chose his step daughter (probably to remind him of his late wife) over their daughter was the end.
Rumple and Rogers: There is no secret that I have never been a Hook fan and Rogers still irritates me with his constant yelling, but the scene between Rumple and Rogers was very well done. Who in their right mind would have ever thought that Rumple would open up to Rogers/Hook, and who would have thought that Rogers/Hook would accept that and try and help. I actually thought it was very touching given their history (even if he is wish Hook, and actually maybe that makes it even more impressive since their only relationship should be revenge)
Mixed:
Lady Tremaine being Rapunzel. Although I did like that she rescued herself that was Awesome girl power!
What exactly did the mushroom do? So that is what affected the heart? So Marcus runs to Wonderland after Cecilia and then when she dies he comes back and gets back with Rapunzel, have to say wow dude take some time and morn.
I didn’t understand the Jacinda scene where she kisses the ex and he leaves and she has a big smile on her face and then runs and gets the mixed tape? I thought the smile meant hey maybe I do feel something for this guy but then why go get Henry’s mixed tape. I think she is just all over the place with her acting and it comes off as ridiculous and not in a good way.
So if we eliminated all the Jacinda and Lucy moments this episode would have gotten a 9/10 for me.

Rapunzel/Victoria – I do not understand why she only loved Anastasia. This was really not explained sufficiently and that sucks because it’s clearly key to the plot that Victoria doesn’t love Drizella so the reason should be made clear.
The husband – was awful! I can understand why a man with two young daughters and a missing wife might remarry. What I don’t understand it why when his 1st wife comes back he tells her he still loves her and then gives her her old coat a new job as his new wife’s…maid? He lets her daughters visit her but not live with her? Personally I’d have been more inclined to put the mushroom stuff in his drink instead of wife #2’s.
That reused mushroom prop – what did this do to wifey #2 exactly? Did it shrink her and then hubby chased her to Wonderland where she…died?
In HH we get the long awaited awakening of Anastasia…at the cost of Lucy’s life? I’m assuming not. More likely she’s now in a state similar to the one Anastasia was just in and someone will eventually save her, possibly by willingly taking her place or perhaps …by dying and going to heaven to reunite with their late wife and son? I was perfectly fine with that story because it makes sense, Rapunzel wants to save her daughter and she has no blood ties to Lucy and also no doubt a great resentment in her heart against Ella. It all fits and makes villainous sense.
I loved that Rumple is essentially recreating his pawn shop in a police evidence locker. The idea however that Rogers could break into a protected room just by pulling the fire alarms seemed silly. It does seem like Rumple is trying to wake people up but in his own subtle way. Though why he thought getting Tiana to hold his dagger would wake her up is a puzzle.
The scene between Rumple and Mother Goethal (sp?) was electric. Those two play off each other very well. If we could just get Alice in there too then we’d probably have the best scene in season seven. It sure seems like they’ve have more of a history then we’ve seen.
At last we get a few tidbits about The Guardian. #1 that Mother Goth is looking for him/her too. #2 that The Guardian is pure of heart and basically immune to temptation? That sounds more like Henry to me than Alice.
December 8, 2017 at 11:29 pm #344928RumplesGirlKeymasterGeneral: Eh; It was fine. It was one of those episodes that needed to squeeze in a lot of character story so it sped through the motions without letting us really sit with some really deep heavy emotions and plot points. Also, the more we go on, the more Gabrielle Anwar bothers me. Not enough Alice, Ivy or Roni.
Rating: 7/10
LIKED
–“To be honest, not since she was 4.”
–“It’s air freshener!”
–Rumple making people hold the dagger and asking if they “feel” anything is fascinating.
–Rumple talking about Bae will always make me sentimental and nostalgic for the old days of OUAT when Rumple the Father and Nealfire the Lost Boy was part of the heart of this show.
MIXED
–“There’s always my way!” *a mushroom appears on the mantel* They aren’t going for comedy here but I laughed a lot.
–Squeezing a mushroom releases clear liquid? Sure.
–I’m so confused. Is the Guardian supposed to be a new Dark One or is it the person who can live in the tower? Or is it both? Or neither? This is why introducing new mythology into a six year long series is wonky.
DISLIKED
–Holy fast plotting, Batman. There’s almost no set up for Rapunzel being trapped in the tower. It all happens in about 2 mins.
–Really? It took Rapunzel all that time to realize that if she left her hair inside the tower she could leave? Based on all the hatch marks she was in the tower for a *long time* and she never tried this before?
–Someone needs to teach other writers to let us live in the lives of the characters. There’s so much internal emotional angst to mined from Rapunzel’s story with her daughters and Marcus but they just jump from one plot point to the next. I want to see Rapunzel’s emotional state living in the tower, after she sees Cecelia and her trying to live without her kids and Marcus, or how they apparently reunited. But instead they just jump from Big Plot Point A to Big Plot Point B. Its just enough to make us slightly sympathetic but not enough to truly make us care. I mean does anyone remember when characters stores took place over multiple episodes and not all crammed into one?
–So the mushroom did what exactly?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 8, 2017 at 11:39 pm #344935StahlopParticipantAhhh! I had it all typed out and then my page reloaded and it disappeared. Let’s try this again.
Liked:
Victoria has a new Once Upon A Time book!
Ivy and Victoria’s scene at the beginning of the episode. They play very well off each other.
Young Rapunzel. She goes from vulnerable, to strong, to beaten down, to mildly evil in such a short time. Great work by that actress.
Liked that Rapunzel rescued herself.
Rumple is definitely awake!
Loved Rogers finding his hook in the locker.
Liked the twist on how Lady Tremaine became Ella’s step-mother.
Mixed:
So Anastasia is the Guardian? This does not make sense with what we’ve been told. Alice and Henry were the only ones near Rumple when he came through the portal. Anastasia was ‘dead’ by this point. It doesn’t add up.
I’m confused about Drizella and Lady Tremaine’s relationship. So Rapunzel comes back and Drizella prefers her step-mother, Cecilia. Rapunzel tries to get in her good graces but she doesn’t seem to care. When did Drizella start wanting her affections? When Cecilia left? And when did Lady Tremaine start hating Drizella?
Also, does Drizella know her mother poisoned her step-mother? Would Gothel have told her? Would Gothel have told her she provided the poison? We are assuming that the mushroom juice gave Cecilia the Poisoned Heart curse, right?
Jacinda and Nick kissing I’m mixed because I know we’re supposed to be rooting for her and Henry, but she and Nick have so much more chemistry.
Disliked:
Rapunzel and Victoria said Anastasia completely different. It was driving me nuts the entire episode.
Victoria’s manipulation of Lucy. So besides the fact that she apparently has a camera set up in jacinda’s apartment, what was her plan if Jacinda and Nick hadn’t kissed? How would she had made Lucy lose her belief?
No Tillie, Henry or Roni.

Decide on one!!!

ARGH! I hated it. It really pulled me out of the episode. Why on earth didn’t continuity pick this up? You don’t just suddenly start pronouncing your own daughters name in a completely different way. What a stupid mistake to make in what was an otherwise good episode.

And everyone besides Victoria said it Ann-ah-stay-sha. If Rumple had only ever heard it from Lady Tremaine/Victoria, he should’ve said it in the same way. It really should have been caught.
December 9, 2017 at 11:40 am #344951hjbauParticipantI thought that Rumpel had Tiana hold the dagger because he was trying to figure out of she was the guardian. It is interesting that Gothel is looking for the guardian as well, but why? We don’t really know enough about her character to even guess at it.
I think the implication of one of Tremaine’s daughters is the guardian, is that it will be Drizella and not Anastasia. I don’t think Anastasia is important except as a plot device.
