I liked them having Rumpel talk about Bae and comparing with Tremaine also having a daughter that hated her. Though, i don’t think that they did a very good job showing that young Drizella was upset with Rapunzel. I think they needed more there. They just don’t get character development at all. They showed Tremaine getting upset, but they didn’t show Drizella doing anything that would upset her.
It is almost like they need to relive those moments from Ella and Drizella’s perspective because it was like we missed something. They didn’t show enough about Drizella and her thoughts about her mother’s return and they didn’t show enough of Ella and her thoughts about her mother leaving and Anastasia dying.
I think Jacinda kissing Nick is all nonsense that no one should care about in the show because they are cursed and that Lucy’s reaction made no sense. She is a child though, so that is the only reason it worked at all. Also, Jacinda kissed Nick and then he was all like i misread the signs, like he had kissed her out of turn, when he didn’t kiss her, she kissed him.
I liked having an episode without Henry.

In the original story it was so the witch could raise her away from others. One Tangled it was to keep her away from others due to her magical hair. In both instances, the witch came back and raised her. In this instance it looks like Rapunzel was just in a tower with all things provided for her and Gothel never came back. So what was the point?
Also, why did Rapunzel never cut her hair previously if there was something in there to cut it with?

yeah I didn’t get the thing with the hair? Like….what was the point? Why’d it grow so long? Why didn’t she cut it? I honestly figured I must have missed a piece of dialogue about it

It felt like one of those things that are assumed. Rapunzel has long hair, that is known, so they didn’t feel the need to justify why she had long hair even though they should. The cartoon movie does. I am not sure what the justification in other Rapunzel stories are for her having long hair though. I have not seen many versions of that.
I think she just used her hair as a rope. She could have tied sheets together if that was all the purpose it served.

Ain’t too much to say, but I guess it was alright.
Liked:
Lady Tremaine was more interesting in this episode than she has been the whole season.
Seeing what finally made Tremaine tick.
Rumple talking about Bae….yes, I shed a tear!
Rapunzel saving herself!
Rumple doing everything he can to get back to Belle! (cries)
Mixed:
Nick had so much potential to be any other character, and I just really feel like he’s a wasted opportunity.
How many ways can we pronounce Anastasia?
Disliked:
So there’s really no Henry or Regina…..mmmmm….okay. Yeah, that’s not gonna work for me.
Marcus….flip flopping Marcus! How can you give your first wife a job to work for your new one….wth?!!!! And how can you not try and encourage a relationship between your girls and their mother! He’s literally become one of my least favorite characters in all of OUAT!
So you mean to tell me that Marcus willingly saved his step-daughter over his and Rapunzel’s biological daughter! OKAY, I can see if Anastasia was too far away and he couldn’t reach her, but Cinderella was closer….but you literally chose Cindy over Ana! I think Lady Tremaine’s anger is misplaced, as Cindy couldn’t control her step-father’s choice….however, Marcus, I don’t know what became of you, but I don’t feel sorry for you!

December 9, 2017 at 7:10 pm #344971hjbauParticipantI agree that it does seem really weird if Marcus had a real choice between Anastasia and Ella and he chose Ella. That really doesn’t make a lot of sense.
December 9, 2017 at 7:27 pm #344973RumplesGirlKeymasterWhat I don’t get is the sequence of events;
Marcus dives into the water and pulls out Cindy. He tells Tremaine that he “could only save one” but them moments later we see Tremaine hauling Ana to Gothel in an attempt to revive her. So…Marcus dove back in and pulled out Ana but yet claims he “could only save one” which implies that one was further away and Ella just happened to be within in his grasp?

Do…do the writers know hair just wont naturally grow that long?

Is Marcus the father she was talking about who was Cecilia’s true love? Because he’s only her step-father. I was under the impression that the mushroom gave Cecilia the poisoned heart curse, being as it was a mushroom from Wonderland, but now I’m not so sure. Unless Ella considered Marcus like her real father because she didn’t have one anymore. Also, if Marcus was the father she was talking about, where were the glowing, true love lockets they wore?

I was right that Ella was only accidentally involved in Anastasia’s almost death.
I am still non-the-wiser as to why Ivy feels unloved by Rapunzel. Their past showed the child rejecting the mother, not the other way around. Perhaps R didn’t make enough effort, but this episode didn’t show this.
More importantly, I would have liked to know why Drizella seemed to have been born with magic. Perhaps this will come in later episode (here’s hoping!).
THEORY 1:
Perhaps she was destined to be guardian (because Reasons/Universe), and that is why Rapunzel suppressed her magic….so that Gothel wouldn’t take her and make her suffer in order to test her. This might also explain why Ivy would be rejecting her mother, and feels rejected by her mother also (because R rejected who she was….a person with magic).
Back to my reaction: I also would have liked to know why mother Gothel of all people needs to find a guardian. Is she the official guardian-finder or something?
No Roni or Tilly.
THEORY 2:
Now, that Drazilla’s heart is too dark to be the guardian (assuming that that was her original destiny), perhaps it will be Regina? Afterall, she has done nothing but suffer for her family from later seasons onwards, with no reward. Some of it was part of her much-needed redemption, but there were times when it seemed that Regina had achieved redemption (minus Graham, which is something the writers just don’t want to acknowledge) and was just suffering for the sake of suffering. Moreover, she is suffering right now by being awake and not having a mother-Son relationship with Henry, and by shouldering the responsibility of keeping Henry and Ella apart. In addition, let’s not forget that she has displayed light magic in the past when she attacked Zelena, and had difficulty learning dark magic, pointing to her natural inclination towards light magic. She is also very protective, a mother figure to all despite her infertility (hence, a ”guardian”).
So maybe the guardian destiny has been Regina, then Drazilla, then back to Regina.
SPOILER One thing that might throw a spanner in the workings of this theory is the promised casting of a certain character in the second half of this season.
THEORY 3
This is one is based on pandering to the fans rather than logical story-telling. Hook 2 is the guardian because he is purposely keeping away from his daughter to protect her. I don’t think he has suffered enough compared with Regina, though.
THEORY 4
My original theory was that Alice is the guardian. She hasn’t suffered enough for her family though. I don’t think looking for a cure for her father’s curse is as much suffering as what Regina has experienced. So I am tempted to throw this idea out the window.
***************to answer other people’s confusions******
1) the camera was likely in the teddy that Belfry gave to Jacinda. (I agree that Belfry lucked out with both camera placement, and the kiss. What would have been her back-up plan to make Lucy lose her belief???).
2) Mother Gothel locked Rapunzel in the tower because she was searching for someone who was pure enough to be the guardian, and the tower was a test. Her definition of someone who is pure of heart enough to be the guardian is someone who would sacrifice their own happiness for their family. The tower took away R’s freedom and ability to be with her family, and therefore her happiness was sacrificed.
3) My assumption about the hair was that it was R’s choice to grow it that long so that she could use it as a rope to escape (and it would have taken several years to grow it to that length, hence the time gap). Question is though, why didn’t Mother Gothel get suspicious about her growing her hair? Again, my assumption is that Mother Gothel simply let her escape to move onto the next purity test, or maybe she wanted to see to what lengths R’s pure heart would lead her to reunite with her family.
