We’re down to the final five! What were your favorite and least favorite moments from this week’s episode, “The Guardian”?
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 20, 2018 at 9:00 pm #346796RumplesGirlKeymasterI think this is the first episode I’ve watched live since the first half of S7…
GENERAL: Great episode. I don’t much care for anything going on with Henry and the never ending curse but everything with Rumple and Alice (and Margo) was fantastic. I genuinely love the dynamic between Reformed Rumple and Alice. Definitely one of the best of the season.
9/10
LIKED
–Robert Carlyle….Robert Carlyle….Robert Carlyle. If you hate Rumple, love Rumple or something in-between, there’s no denying that Bobby Carlyle is a class above the rest in terms of acting. I will miss watching him in his many faceted Rumplestiltskin role.
–Rumple’s outfit in the Enchanted Forest. Nice seeing Rumple in a three-piece suit again.
–Alice’s blue EF cloak is lovely and I adore the larger than necessary bow. It’s very Alice.
–Everything about Margo and Tilly’s date was adorable. Why–whyyyyyyy–couldn’t the writers have introduced these two earlier and made them the whole focus of this season?? It’s like they embody all the best aspects of the best written ships on this show.
–“Always love a good loophole…”
–Jewelry of true love…the show likes to hammer home that particular motif.
–“Immortality is just another tower.” Rumple’s sacrifice to ensure that Alice gets to have a normal life, a happy life with the love of her life…it was beautiful. It was the Rumple I loved for so long.
–“All magic comes with a price; guess it was finally my turn to pay.”
–“Dark One and the Pirate…friends?” “Perhaps it’s time for a new story.”
MIXED
–That is an incredibly elaborate shrine to Belle. And seems to be appropriating certain aspects of Mexican culture in ways that make no sense.
–Rumple using the familiar pain of missing someone you love to manipulate and test Alice. It’s very Rumple–a desperate soul to the very end–but it’s also cruel.
–I think Regina is totally overreacting to all this. I get she’s scared for Henry and what happens if he wakes up but 1) this family always find a way and being indebted to Facilier is not the way to go and 2) she cannot possibly understand what Rumple is going through. There are some things only the Immortal Dark One can understand.
DISLIKED
–Disappointed that Rumple and Nook have met before and we didn’t get to see it; that would have made for some fun drama–even if the Hook/Rumple conflict has been overdone–as Regina et al try to convince Nook that this Rumple isn’t a villain.
–Regina calling Rumple/Gold “Weaver” and Rumple calling Regina “Roni” is weird. Weaver means nothing to Regina; Gold makes sense after six years in Storybrooke but everyone using these tertiary names for one another is just bizarre.
–Facilier would have been a fine villain on his own without adding the unnecessary Regina-as-lover complication. Like, what is even the point of this so called fling?

Overall, it’s a great follow up to the last great episode! Hopefully OUAT stays on track till the end.
Liked:
Bobby Carlyle outdid himself in this episode, not just flashback wise but present day as well! This was some of his best acting since the Belle Centric Episode, and Rumple just incredibly moved me tonight!
Can we please give a round of applause to the best addition of Season 7, Alice!!! Her story interests me more than Henry’s, and that’s really saying something!!! This actress continues to amaze me, and her connection with Robyn moves me in a way I haven’t been moved since the early days of OutlawQueen! Alice just really has been the best part of Season 7!
Seeing how far Rumple has come really just made me realize even more that the end of the series is here, but seeing his sacrifice for the daughter of Hook, his used to be worst enemy, really just did wonders!!! I’m just so proud of our straw spinning beast, he’s really changed!
The friendly mentor/student relationship Rumple has with Alice has got to be one of my favorite things of Season 7! They really just get and understand one another, and it’s really special!
Okay, gotta say, I love the touch of Coco Movie that they did in here for Belle!
Mixed:
Regina, for as long as you’ve known Rumple and technically speaking….aside from Hook, you’re his oldest living friend, I would think that Regina wouldn’t be so quick to jump down Rumple’s throat over something as important as the dagger, that she knows can spell destruction if ever in the wrong hands.
I’m just at a crossroads with how I feel for Henry’s story….it’s just….boring. I mean, him being the son of the Evil Queen and the Savior, I just felt like Henry deserved such a better story than what we’re being shown.
Dislike:
Whose our big bad this season again?! LOL! Can’t take Facilier too seriously because I don’t know what his true deal is with Regina and Mother Gothel’s been missing for two episodes!

April 21, 2018 at 12:29 am #346805GaultheriaParticipantEverything about Alice’s behaviour makes sense, given her upbringing shut away from the world with just one person to talk to. She really was Daddy’s Little Princess until her mumbleteenth birthday when she escaped from the tower, so it’s understandable that she still talks like a five-year-old. And, in real life, I hope I could feel compassion and patience for any such emotionally-stunted person who crossed my path. But I just wish that someone on the show would say “Alice, you say some important things, but the way you say them needs work.”
–That is an incredibly elaborate shrine to Belle. And seems to be appropriating certain aspects of Mexican culture in ways that make no sense.
They had to work a Coco reference into the show. Rumpel wants to be that boy who goes to be with his dead loved ones. Only, that boy was doing it to bring joy and music back to the world of the living.

April 21, 2018 at 9:42 am #346808StahlopParticipantGreat episode! If they can keep this pace through the end of the season I’ll be very happy.
Liked:
Rumple was amazing in this episode. His little idiosyncrasies when he was still himself but reverting back was just awesome. Robert Carlyle just hit it out of the ball park this episode!
Robin and Tilly’s relationship is so sweet in both realms. If only they’d made them the true love story instead of Henry and Jacinda, this show would’ve been so much better this season.
Alice is the true guardian! Thank goodness that mystery is solved. Now we can move on to getting Henry cured and this damn curse removed so we’re not stuck in the ridiculous story we’ve been in all season.
Nook and Rumple becoming friends. Who knew?
Mixed:
I thought Drew was under Samdi’s control. How is he able to do things against Samdi on his own free will?
I get that Regina is scared for Henry, but I’m a little tired of her crying over so many things this season. Is it because she no longer has EQ in her that she can’t keep her emotions in check? I mean, great work from Lana Parilla, but it’s getting old.
Why would Henry tell Jacinda about the paternity test? What purpose is that going to serve either of them?
Dislike:
Why does Rogers continually put his job at risk by bringing Henry along? Seriously, I get it’s for storyline purposes, but it annoys me every time he does it.
Can someone please wake up Rogers? Also, does he have a first name? I just realized that neither he or Weaver have first names today (of course, Gold didn’t either).
I actually missed Zelena this episode. I hate Regina having to go at this alone again.
April 21, 2018 at 10:27 am #346811AKAParticipantI liked this episode, but that is not surprising since it was largely focused on the only two characters that I truly care about this season, Rumple and Alice I give it a 8.5/10
Liked:
Just like everyone else before me said, Robert Carlyle is a beast of an actor who did an awesome job!!!!!
Rumple and Alice: Wow how far has Rumple come! That was an absolutely beautiful moment of him sacrificing his happiness and quest to make sure that Alice (who is the daughter of a man who for a long time he hated) can have a happy, normal, and satisfying life full of love and adventures.
Alice as the Guardian: This at least makes sense, since she is literally the first person he sees when he comes to the EF2. To know that she is still the guardian and still protecting the dagger is kinda cool too. How they are going to resolve this, I don’t know but I like what they did with it this episode.
I loved the shrine to Belle and I haven’t seen the new movie but I thought his moments there could have come off as too mushy and sweet but didn’t. I think it is in character for Rumple to do a private over the top shrine.
I know everyone likes to see the softer side of Rumple and him making all the right decisions, but I also enjoy seeing the don’t mess with me side of him. He is a guy who when he feels cornered, he will bite back. As I have said in the past, and continually believe Rumple very rarely is the aggressor but man when he feels threatened watch out. For that reason alone, I loved the scenes between him and Facilier.
Alice and Tilly were sweet and I loved their time together. Alice is just an outstanding character in all
Mixed:
Rumple choosing to use the powder to find the dagger. I think the writers want us to forget what someone can do with that dagger (completely control the dark one which could be incredibly destructive in the wrong hands) and think that Rumple is being selfish and self serving. Should he have gone about this another way, absolutely but it seems that Rumple can continue to make a really bad decision and at the same time I still always manage to feel incredibly sad for him. He was so disappointed in himself.
Regina stating that no matter what Rumple says to himself he hasn’t changed and that despite everything they have gone through he still does not trust her. I get why she is upset. In her eyes, Rumple has again sacrificed Henry’s happiness for his gains, but let’s face it we haven’t seen any actual growth in their relationship in a long time. Rumple and Regina have been at odds forever. Season 4-6 we did not see any growth actually I think their relationship deteriorated greatly in those seasons. So why should he trust her, she was willing to let him die in season 5 (she actually told Belle that his life was a risk they were going to have to take). I also think that the writers always want to throw out that Henry is Rumple’s grandson but unfortunately as I said a couple of episodes ago, they have not had a relationship since Bae’s death. Henry has totally disassociated himself from Rumple’s side so Rumple’s decision would have to be make sure someone who should not have the dagger does not have it or keep Henry is a state of ignorance a while longer. I actually think he made the right choice, but I know he feels bad about it, and Regina stating that he has not changed is going to make Rumple doubt himself. He is at his core a man who does not believe in himself (Which is Why Belle was so good for him, because he needed that reassurance that he was a good man) and I just hope that this does not slide him backwards.
Regina why haven’t you asked Facilier what he wants with the dagger? Why would you continue in a relationship with a guy who you know is trying to control someone who you think should trust you? Really and your upset with Rumple?

Stahlop …. I thought Drew was under Samdi’s control. How is he able to do things against Samdi on his own free will?Is DREW not similar to GRAHAM who acted on his won whenever REGINA as not following him and actively controlling GRAHAM…. Maybe DREW can act independently unless SANDI has actively given him a task to accomplish.

And I don’t think Roni had a last name?

I would be okay with Regina trusting Facilier the amount she does if we had any context to this relationship. We’ve gotten absolutely nothing about their past and so Regina looks a little foolish and naive, which isn’t Regina at all
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 21, 2018 at 10:23 pm #346824Raira cardosoParticipantI really loved this episode! Specially Carlyle performance as becoming Rumplestilskin again. So good, so much season one. The feels ❤️ And the sacrifice he made, that line that its finally his time to pay the price ? Also, Roni was so Regina at the end, almost crying while ‘breaking up’ with Rumple. Alice and Robin so cute. I feel like its getting better, and I’m sad that we only have a few episodes left.
I still hate EVERYTHING about Facilier. And Drew is a boring.
April 21, 2018 at 11:10 pm #346825GaultheriaParticipantCan someone please wake up Rogers? Also, does he have a first name?
I’m surprised his nickname isn’t “Jolly”. It would have worked out-of-universe for obvious reasons and in-universe for Rogers always being so somber and serious.
