As the article stated, these are only predictions, so this particular prediction may not be based on any inside information at all. In fact, they mentioned that they only got 30% of their predictions correct for last Season. So for the time being, I’m treating it as just a prediction, and nothing concrete. This isn’t one of their Blind Item articles.
In the event that somebody is written off, though, it’s hard to say for sure. Rumple seems like the safest bet, but permanently writing him off the show has been a common theory since Season 4, so I still think it could go either way. There was a rumor awhile back that Bobby was only willing to do one more Season, but who knows how true that is. I also don’t see it being Zelena for the reasons stated above. Not to mention that Zelena now has a baby, and she is the baby’s only living parent as a result of Robin’s death. I guess if they wanted to they could kill Zelena off, and have Regina raise the baby. I’m not sure how I’d feel about that, though.

There are ones that are faaaaar more obvious or at least seem far more liekly: like a wedding (CS) or another secret family member (there’s always another secret family member on this show!)
TVLine writers obviously pay attention to all the stuff going on (rumors, actor comments, directions in narrative) like we do and they seem to be coming to the same conclusion: another cast member will exit.

I don’t even like Rumpel, but he became integral to the story with the introduction of Bae. The writers will have completely lost everything about their story that they originally created with the loss of him.
September 19, 2016 at 9:48 pm #327346TheWatcherParticipantI would think Rump and Regina are the safest what with being arguably the most popular characters on the show since day 1.

It would be nice if they can get MRJ back for one more scene so they can at least have some closure with father and son being properly reunited, considering that was kinda the whole point of why the show exists in the first place. It’d be a consolation prize because we still never got to see them properly rebuild their relationship, and it’ll be a handwavey way to say, “See, they’re back together and totally fine now, awwwww happy ending,” but at least it would be something.
And I agree that that’s what they’ll do with Belle. Whether Rumple dies in Feb, or at the end of the season, they’ll ship Belle off to Forgotten Character Island in the process. Rumple will have left some sort of if-you’re-reading-this-it-means-I’m-dead letter for Belle, telling her that she inherits everything that was his, and he wants her to take his money and his car and go off to explore the world like she’d always dreamed of. The last we’ll ever see of Belle is her and Baby-Mr-Gold’s-First-Name arriving at Neal’s apartment in NYC.

If it means the poor, innocent child doesn’t have to be raised by the witch who raped her father, then I’d be totally fine with Zelena dying and Regina raising Robyn instead.

They don’t have much choice if Bobby wants to leave. He was a big name before he was on Once, and he’s got plenty of other career opportunities out there, so it’s not like he’s relying on the show to keep his career afloat. In fact if anything it’s holding him back because he doesn’t have the freedom to persue other projects for a big chunk out of the year when he’s stuck in Vancouver. If his contract is up, and he wants to leave, then the showrunners just have to deal with it and come up with a way to write him out whether they want him to leave or not. (I imagine he’d still agree to come back for guest stints if they need Rumple in a flashback now and then, but he wouldn’t be shackled to the show any more.) It’s a bit like karma coming back to bite them, after how they threw away MRJ/Nealfire.

Well, they’ve been rehearsing getting rid of Rumple since season 3, so maybe this time’s the charm. But on the other hand, I suppose it all depends on RC — if he actually wants to stay and this isn’t the last season, I can’t imagine they’d write him off the show, since Rumple’s a fairly popular character. Unless they’re in a budget crisis and need to cut costs. (Or unless OUAT’s turned into a cult whereby lacking frothing-at-the-mouth enthusiasm for the writing gets you sacked, which… well, come to think of it, no, that wouldn’t surprise me either). *shrug*
If Robert leaves the show, that is just the complete decent into drivel that this show will have become.
It’s arguably descended into drivel a while ago, and has been happily rolling in it for a while. I’m not sure there’s much room to descend any further. Very little of the “original” intent of the show remains, and the characters most affected by this are, I think, Rumple and Emma. Rumple’s character development is a shambling plot zombie, and Emma has been robbed of her storylines in favor of other characters’ growth arcs.

Which isn’t a hard prediction to make, considering that we lose at least one regular cast member per Season. By the end of Season 1 it was Graham (died), August (demoted to guest star), and Archie (demoted to guest star). By the end of Season 2 it was Ruby (demoted to guest star). By the end of Season 3 it was Neal (died). By the end of Season 4 it was Will (demoted, and has yet to re-appear as a guest star). Finally by the end of Season 5 it was Robin (died). Can’t say I expect Season 6 to be any different. It is bold for them to predict that it’ll be by February sweeps, though. They could have played it more safe by saying by the end of the Season.
I agree that if Rumple ever does leave the show, it’ll be because Bobby wants out. I don’t get the impression that Adam and Eddy want to lose Rumple. Especially since he’s one of the main reasons a lot of people watch the show.

Unless they are also predicting (but not saying) that they believe this to be the final season, in which a surprise death at the height of Sweeps will see the show through to the rest of the season.

Then Rumple is left to raise another son by himself, similarly to Bae when Milah left, and Rumple gets another chance. They name the child Chip. For me, Rumple getting a second chance at raising a son, and this time, doing the right thing, has always been his happy ending.
