I can see Belle and her father reconciling, except Rumple will always be a sticking point. He remembers Rumple as this horrid man/creature who “took” his beloved daughter and never heard from her again, not to mention receiving the merciless beating from Rumple over the teacup before the curse was broken.

July 6, 2013 at 7:18 pm #199674RumplesGirlKeymasterThe actual reconciliation could be one episode but mentioned as action happening off screen for the rest of the season. I don’t think they need to make Mo a reoccuring character like Granny or Grumpy.

That would be quite within Belle’s character. Also the flashbacks for that episode could relate to Belle’s mother’s death.

Her relationship with him is relevant to the person she’s become.
Also, if she’s involved directly with Rumple and Nealfire reconciling, I’d feel it was a glaring oversight if that didn’t spark in her a desire to see her own father again. I mean, Rumple and Bae have some serious parent/child issues. Can she really advise Nealfire to forgive and reconcile without coming across as hypocritical if she doesn’t try the same with her own father at some point?
As it stands right now, as far as Belle knows, Rumple has lost his chance to reconcile with his son who everyone believes is dead in some far off world. Surely that will weigh on her mind, because she knows how desperately Rumple wanted that reunion, and how shattered he was when he lost Bae all over again. Mo has lost Belle twice as well, once in FTL, once in SB. If the similarities of the situations don’t occur to her and make her at least consider seeing her father again, I’ll likely feel the urge to reach into the screen and give her a good shake.
I have to admit, even though Mo isn’t a main or even recurring character, that I’m really want to see them reconcile. I think I may be a little more sensitive to it than most people because I just lost my dad a few months ago.
Sorry for your loss, Josephine. My dad’s having heart surgery tomorrow, so maybe that’s influencing my views somewhat as well.
Phee, I keep having the refrain “Daddy, daddy if you could only see / just how good he’s been treating me / you’d give us our blessing right now cause we are in love” repeating in my head. My goal is to get this little earworm in everyone’s head by the end of the day. 😛
This is one of those times when I wish I knew how to make fanvids. This thing could go viral and infect the whole fandom. 😉
I think it would be interesting to see them bond again – as long as he doesn’t spend the whole time convincing her to give up on Rumple. It would open doors to finding out what happened to her mother as well!
Ah good point, it would be nice to have a little backstory on Belle’s mother!
July 6, 2013 at 9:40 pm #199683JosephineParticipantPhee, I’m sure everything will go fine. It’s a routine surgery nowadays with very little complications. Sending out positive thoughts.
I don’t know how to make fanvids either. I’ve found a few songs that I thought would make fantastic vids.

Exactly! I can’t see how they can go on with that storyline without addressing what’s happening in Belle’s life. It seems like it would be a good bonding point for Belle and Neal.
I’m kind of hoping that Neal returns to Storybrooke before the Neverland crew so he can spend time alone with Belle. The last he knew of her was as Lacey and that didn’t give him a good impression of her. I think they need to spend some quality time together before he jets off to rescue his son. The two of them lamenting over their fathers and how to deal with them would be make for some good television. Maybe learning about Belle’s ordeal with her father and that his dad went to his demise to rescue Henry will begin the healing process with his dad when they’re reunited.

I can’t see them trying to make Mo into a more developed character given all that is already happening. Maybe one episode with a big reconciliation and then, like I said above, lots of dialogue about action happening off screen. Honestly, I wouldn’t feel cheated if I didn’t get to see much of it. I would much prefer some Belle and Grumpy adventures.

Yes, I’m hoping they get some time alone as well. Either he finds his way back to SB on his own, or Belle somehow helps him get back. Those two seriously need to talk.

I wouldn’t really see it as them making Mo into a more developed character in his own right. More like he’s a necessary piece to the puzzle if they want to develop Belle in her own right, (which I think we’re all hopeful for, so people can stop saying she’s only there to be Rumple’s girlfriend).
PS. YES to Belle and Grumpy (Bumpy? Grelle?) adventures!
July 7, 2013 at 8:51 am #199703PriceofMagicParticipantI still think something drastic needs to happen to Moe to prompt Belle to consider reconciling with him. Trying to help Rumple and Bae reconcile doesn’t automatically mean Belle should reconcile with her own father. It’s two different situations.
Rumple made the mistake in letting Bae go and he was trying to fix it. He spent his whole life trying to find his son. Moe is not happy with the Rumbelle relationship and because he can’t accept that, a true reconciliation between himself and Belle is unlikely. At best, we might be shown the beginning of a reconciliation between Belle and Moe prompted by the drastic event but it will be very tentative.
