Salutations everyone! I’ve been hanging around the forums and listening to the podcasts for a couple of months, but I haven’t began any activity until just today, and I figured a proper introduction was in order so here it is. 🙂
Probably a familiar statement to many of you here, I love Fairytales. In my case, I don’t know why it took me so long to realize, because I’ve had an affinity for them long before I’d noticed it myself, but it was last year that I became aware of my love of anything to do with them, or a genre I would consider something along the realms of “Medieval Fantasy.” With Fairytales, I particularly love to see them rewoven and spun on their heads, much the way Hollywood has caught fever to do recently and much to my enjoyment. Basically when I discovered this show (thanks to the recommendation of one of my close friends) it was as perfect a fit as Cinderella’s glass slipper. I’m usually not interested in most shows that air on TV, but OUaT is not only exactly the kind of thing I like, but has also proven itself exceptional to me at every twist and turn, and I couldn’t help but grow more attached to the show with every new episode. We’ve had ourselves a fantastic season topped with an intense finale, and I’m as eager for Season 2 (and more Snowing and Rumpel/Mr. Gold, please) as the rest of you here, dreading the OUaTlessness of summer.
To keep me going until it premieres, I’m working on reading through all of Grimm‘s Fairytales, and I also intend to buy Hans Christian Anderson‘s Fairytales and eventually get to Arabian Nights. Simultaneously I’m reading various volumes from King Arthur (with a cross of fingers that Camelot will eventually make its way into OUaT) as well as Robin Hood, and I’ve also started reading the original Wizard of Oz series by L. Frank Baum (of which many people I’ve asked sadly don’t seem to be aware predated the movie). I’m going all out here and hoping it’ll be enough to get me through an OUaTless summer. I am looking forward to June though, majorly excited for both Snow White and the Huntsman and Jack the Giant Killer.
Mostly though, I’m looking forward to getting to meet you all and sharing theories for some great discussions to hold me over the summer.
On a side note, today is Ginnifer Goodwin’s Birthday, and it’s also my mother’s Birthday; I got her a bouquet of Gastons…I mean red roses. 😉

I’ve read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz just a few months ago (with the super cute pictures by W. W. Denslow). Have been reading through the Grimm tales since over a year ago (whenever I feel like it) and have also been skimming through Arabian Nights (still at the very beginning) and the Andersen tales.
I can recommend th Oscar Wilde fairy tales! Read them in January. Very good. I especially liked The Fisherman and his Soul. It’s a sort of variation of The Little Mermaid. What are your favourite fairy tales so far? 🙂 My Grimm ones are King Thrushbird and The Six Swans.

May 24, 2012 at 6:40 pm #147650ZarianaeParticipantThank you Lissy and Mia! As for my favorite Grimm fairytale so far, one is very much the same as yours–King Thrushbeard (it looks like we may have similar tastes 😉 and I have not yet read The Six Swans, but another one I’ve liked so far has been The Princess in Disguise.
I finished The Wonderful Wizard of Oz just recently, but honestly I am actually most excited for the third volume in the Oz series for being about Ozma of Oz, a character of which I am very curious to read about.
Oh the Oscar Wilde Fairy Tales? Well I guess I’ll be adding that to my summer list as well then. ;D
