Rumple sent Ariel to SB to get Pandora’s box (most of us already knew this) because he believes it will be a fate worse than death. According to Belle, it held the most evil magic and things in the world inside it (this is a rather loose take on the Greek myth of Pandora and her legendary jar/box but we’ll go with it).
What will Rumple and Regina do with the box? How will they use it?

In that case it would be a Hobson’s choice release a greater evil into the world while trapping Pan in the box. That seems the most logical possibility, but whoever said A&E were logical.

It’s a wee bit odd because if it has never been opened (ie: the evil is still inside) would it still be Pandora’s box? Would Pandora even be known if she hadn’t opened the box? I’m probably getting picky, I know.
Or has it already been opened once, released its evil and is now free to trap Pan?
Is Hope still inside? According to the myth, Pandora shut the lid before Hope could escape. Does Rumple have to release Hope into NL?

Nope. In Charmed it was a box containing all of world’s sorrows (pretty much like in the Greek myth). In every generation a woman is born chosen to guard the box, Pandora was the first of these guardians. Hope was the name of the next guardian, who the Charmed sisters had to protect until she was able to take care of things herself.
In the basement of the Charmed’s manor was the so called Nexus, a point of great energy, which can be used though by good and evil.
The other thing you might think of is The Hollow, a kind of very ancient vapor, which absorbs all kind of magic it comes in contact with, and it hungers for doing so, to a degree that it might destroy the world, if set free. The ultimate power to end everything and create a void. Good and evil managed to contain it and keep it in a box in a some ancient burial ground, guarded by one from each side. The Source of All Evil uses it in his last, desperate attempt to kill the sisters, but together with an evil Seer the sisters manage to contain The Hollow again.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

I mentioned this in spoilery talk before the ep aired, but my current crackpot theory is that Blue was Pandora, who opened the box long ago and let all the evil out, and now Rumple’s gonna use it to trap Pan.
In the previous ep, when Regina was saying that maybe there was a way other than killing Pan, she actually said, “something to contain him” which is when Rumple got the idea of using the Box.

Actually…. I like that! That is a great way to deal with Sneaky Fairy being Sneaky. Would also be an excellent way to tie things together.

I love anything that makes Sneaky Fairy Sneaky

It seems some one was stalling… she could have had that whole town cloaked in an instant. Perhaps someone was hoping Belle would fail.
