What do you think magic is a special ability or it is a learnable thing?

Because Emma was born with magical abilities, but Cora and Regina learned the magic.

So anyone can learn magic in Storybrooke or in the Enchanted Forest?

I think a person needs to have magical essence in them in order to learn or cultivate their magic. Rumple could see that Cora, Regina & Emma have it. Perhaps Charming & Snow have a touch of magic too based on their psychic connection. Perhaps everyone from EF does, they just don’t realize it.

I was just thinking about this yesterday when watching WL and while watching a Christmas movie called “Christmas Spirit”. Amara saw the magical essence in Jafar, therefore she was intrigued by him as a child and didn’t kill/harm him in the street. “Christmas Spirit” was about a woman, a writter, who had a magical essence, the Christmas Spirit, that she was able to use to help the citizens of her town out of their financial troubles while she was in a coma. Her neighbor lady was the only one who could see the writter, told her that the gift was special, and helped guide the writter on her journey to back to the living. Otherwise the writter was just an ordinary person in the real world.

Adam and Eddy have said that some people are born with a spark inside them that allows them to do magic easier than others. So Emma is naturally magical, but both Cora and Regina were born with the ability but it had to be cultivated, whereas Emma is just magic.

i have a problem with Mr. K. being Kris Kringle. this means that we have not been getting christmas presents from the real santa for 28 years. that must be the true reason for all the mall  santas.

reason why kris kringle is in storybrooke: regina wrote to him and he never gave her a pony when she was 7.

also i think that magic is passed down but then baelfire does not have it. i think that magic therefore must be a recessive gene genetically  like cora had magica and she passed it down to regina, gold preselected parents who had magic recessive genes for emma etc. magic genetics like in harry potter with some muggle parents having a magical child and some magical parents having a squib child.

Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.

Lol! Santa not being in SB all this time would explain a lot. The mall santas, the increase in commercialism, the lack of Christmas Spirit and good will towards mankind…

I think Baelfire does have the spark, hence why Blood Magic worked. He was able to find his dad’s hidden closet of magic stuff, how he was able to make the crystal work, and how he was even able to locate the Blue Fairy as a kid. He must have been at least paying attention to what Rumple and Pan were using magic for. He’s just so against using magic and therefore doesn’t want to learn & cultivate it because of all the damage it has caused him in his life. Can’t blame Bae for not wanting to learn magic. He hasn’t seen the good it can do. He’s had a tough life. Maybe watching Emma weild magic for good causes vs bad ones will change his mind some day. Zoso must have seen the spark in Rumple, which is why, along with being desperate, he seeked Rumple out and convinced him to take over his burden instead of just killing himself with the dagger. Just a thought though.

But why do u guys thing Cora and Regina had the ability in them? It seems to me that they just had really good teachers. I’m sure that had she lived, Rumpel’s other apprentice would have become just as magical as Regina. I get the having a spark of magic thing, but I don’t think every character who uses it is special. Magic can just be a skilled that can be learned like knitting or cooking or making meth.

About Mr. K, Santa exists in Narnia, but the white witch’s snow curse kept him out for over a hundred years. And since we know that Narnia isn’t the only world within that book series and that he was in some other one, does that mean that the real Santa DID use to visit our land? 😮 or maybe only lands with magic?

I know @Storyteller suspects it has something to do with Cora’s mother and whoever she may have been. If she had the spark then it may have been passed down.

Oh, though no one asked or questioned this particular question, I think I should give an answer to it anyway. The question being: “Why/How did Regina choking the shadow actually hurt it? Its a friggin magic flying shadow afterall.” Well I remember reading that some creatures who shape shift are confined to the rules of that which they transform into. So therefore, if the shadow turned into a vampire, sunlight would kill it. If it turned into fire, water would destroy it. And if it turned into a human, it would need to breathe. Just putting that out there *goes back to my strange readings*

That’s a good question, Watcher. Maybe she was using magic as well as her strength to choke it. So the shadow was feeling the magic choking it. Also, how did Tink know that burning the Shadow would kill it? How can a shadow be burned? Must not be an ordinary shadow.

I think you’ve sorta answered your own question though. It’s a magical flying shadow. It clearly already doesn’t operate by the rules of normal shadows. Why can it be choked: well the same reason it can fly, carry small children and full grown men, speak and have intelligent thought. *magic*

While I like your explanation, I think the honest answer here is magical shadow is magic.

In “True North”, Mr K (Krzyszkowski) was the thin, grey haired, stern guy at the Hall of Records where Emma was retrieving birth certificates for Ava & Nicholas and she had to complete forms in triplicate to get them. But the documents were already removed by Regina. It would be fitting that Santa Clause’s cursed self would be thin and unjollly. His last name looks like it could be Russian or Polish now that I’m thinking about it.

I forgot about the fact that L. Frank Baum, who wrote the Oz books, also wrote “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus”. So there’s another OZ reference. Hehe

!  Ok, now we must tweet Adam until he answers it 😛   I really hope that’s true and it was a santa easter egg  (isn’t that too many holidays in one?)
