Ariel’s home could be the Mermaid Lagoon in NL. We didn’t get to see that and we aren’t sure where the shore Regina & Rumple was was located. Nor did we find out if Ariel was related to the nasty mermaids from 3×1.
Isn’t that kind of racist to assume all mermaids are related 😛 kidding. As for the following Eric around for 38 years, I think after Eric left to travel the world she eventually lost track of him. Ariel is confined to the water afterall. I think sometime during that year or the next after Regina tool her voice, Snowing got married and Regina casted the curse, and Ariel probably didn’t even know Eric was gone because she was at home crying >> can mermaids even cry >> I mean we saw Ariel cry in the cartoon and in Once but the logic doesn’t make sense >>

With magic, who knows.
Whatever serves the plot but if it is NL–why is she a different type of mermaid? Does she know that Regina turned another mermaid into Wood (and can they animate that mermaid, de-age her and set her up with August….just kidding…but wooden mermaid, come on…). Perhaps Ariel didn’t get along with the others and wasn’t part of their mermaid society. (They used to laugh and call her names…Ariel the red haired mermaid…you’ll go down in history….).

–why is she a different type of mermaid?
Different type? I have noticed her fin looks a bit different than the first mermaid we saw but I just thought it was simpler editing for the CGI >>

I think KFC means personality wise.
But if Ariel is in NL originally, then why was she in FTL on the day to save Eric? Was she fleeing from her father? Is the answer just fate? And yes, why isn’t she as vicious as the other mermaids (but are those mermaids really vicious or were they just protecting their realm?)

Especially if the JR just slammed into a pack (school?) of mermaids and hit some of them. Why is there a general sense that mermaids cannot be trusted? Hook,Rumple, and Regina echo that but Regina makes an exception for Ariel.
Also plot armor for Ariel–why didn’t Regina kill Ariel? For game players out there, is concentration like a resource bar so she had only enough enough power to attack Snow until she regenerated more? Was her neck snap on cooldown?

But if Ariel is in NL originally, then why was she in FTL on the day to save Eric? Was she fleeing from her father?
I’d guess she was just off exploring, which would be in character for her. Was really hoping we’d get to see Ariel interacting with other mermaids, and that we’d meet her father.
Oh, and I’d also love to know why Hook hates mermaids so intensely. I was actually kinda surprised that the Captain’s quarters has carvings of mermaids decorating it. Was half expecting that maybe he had a mermaid incident at some point after Liam died, and maybe redecorated, but nope, the mermaids were still there when we saw the cabin again in present day.
Oh, and I’d also love to know why Hook hates mermaids so intensely. I was actually kinda surprised that the Captain’s quarters has carvings of mermaids decorating it. She was trapped in the bubble like Cora and Hook.
I thought it was because Ariel has been in Neverland for the past 30 odd years, and in NL, no one ages because time stands still.
But if you think about it – nobody from any of the other lands aged in the last 30 years – Alice, The Red Queen, Jafar, etc. Did the curse stop time in every land with magic? I never really understood this… She had met the Mad Hatter – so Alice must have been in Wonderland before the curse…I guess it’s possible the childhood Alice story occurred before the curse, and she met Cyrus during the curse. But still… she was like 8-10 years old when the curse struck – there’s no way she’s in her late 30s now. The timing just never made sense to me unless every land’s time became frozen.

Yeah, I was surprised that Hook didn’t re-decorate Liam’s quarters. Maybe his sentimental side came into play. I thought his quarters would be at least painted black vs staying white or have some items that were Milah’s visible. And was surprised to see the mermaid carvings still too. His bed didn’t look like it could fit 2 people either… The Hook fan fics I’ve read describing his room weren’t even close to the reality. Hehe.

Yeah, why didn’t Regina kill Ariel after she was stab with the fork. She just stumbled back. Regina has killed people for lesser reasons. Unless she saw Ariel as some use to her since she can cross worlds & retrieve objects underwater.
