This is what I do.
I should be discussing Descartes’ Meditations in class.
Instead, I sit there & part-way listen & draw connections to the show.My apologies to my professor but here – you guys get another wacky-inane theory from your’s truly.
( Please note – I wrote all this down in class – so it probably doesn’t flow very well but the basic thought-process is there. )
Veil of Perception : Based upon our senses.
Theory ;; The curse to end all curses is a sleeping spell ( a`la ‘Sleeping Beauty’ ) but not the aforementioned spell that Maleficent gave Regina in FTL. This curse like the original fairy-tale stipulates that the entire kingdom ( all the lands ) falls asleep when the Princess pricks her finger upon the spinning wheel. ( Hm – gee, who else do I know who has a spinning wheel? I wonder. )Ideas ;; The ‘waking world’ – would be FTL.
Storybrooke – would in turn be the reality shown to our character’s when they are technically ‘asleep’. ( think ‘The Matrix ).Theory Addendum ;; “I think, therefore I am.”
The ‘veil’ is basically like a dream, whereby changed perception in the dream state is actively changing the characters in both realities. ( i.e – dreams the characters have while ‘in’ Storybrooke would be memories of their ‘true reality’. )More thoughts ;; How the curse works ( or breaking it )
Corporeal things/beings are easier to recognize. By this logic it stands to reason that sensory objects/beings could spark memories of ‘reality’.
( ex: Graham & Emma’s kiss & more logically – the photographs of MM & David shown to Kathryn in ep.13 ).This would add to the theory of having Storybrooke & FTL connected.
It would be easier to travel between the two – given that one of them technically doesn’t exist & is only a trick of the mind. But these are just my musings.
Does anyone else have any added thoughts?
Or is this far too absurd to ever work?[adrotate group="5"]February 21, 2012 at 11:33 pm #137500hjbauParticipantIt is a good idea. It would explain how documents and pictures appear. My only question would be how would Emma and Henry enter the story if it was only some sort of collective dream?
February 22, 2012 at 4:39 am #137514cruel_fortunaParticipant- My initial reply is to say both Henry & Emma would probably be apparitions ( visions ) of consequences/actions taken while everyone is inside this / under the influence of this veil.
( a media example would be ‘Inception’. The scene where Fischer follows the blonde in the red dress . He perceives a woman – when in reality – it’s Cobb. ) Something like that – whereby Emma & Henry would be the desires/wants of Charming/Snow. Then, since everyone in this ‘reality’ is interconnected, they too would share in their wants/dream(s) – which would lead to physical manifestation of the want.
Or – put more simply.
That’s a good question & I don’t quite know.

cruel_fortuna, you’re quickly becoming my favourite theorist! xD That is some amazing idea, your professor should be proud of you!
I absolutely love this theory. I’m just wondering about the when. Are you saying the curse was inacted the way we saw it? Because if it was, well, the castle – or at least the room Snow, Charming and the EQ were in – was crumbling! They would be buried underneath it?
What I like most about this theory, is that it seems fitting of the creators. 😀 It’s so twisted, it seems quite plausible.P.S.: Btw, you’re not the only one writing here, while you should be doing uni stuff. 😀 My sympathies. I should be working on my protocolls about integrated production and my Helvetica project. Not to mention the essay about what Germany should do about their book price regulation and compare it to other European countries …

- You wanna know what’s funny. My professor doesn’t even know my name. He doesn’t take roll & I never speak up in class – so yeah. ( I’m more of a write-it out kind of gal. / This invariably always leads to the “why don’t you discuss this in [with] the class discussion. Oh well. )
I’m kind of going based on the whole idea of smoke as a means of travel – i.e – the purple smoke = transporting (?). / As for the castle crumbling – that would be another sensory perception; which if the curse works the way I’ve outlined – would mean the smoke ( curse ) / was already altering their reality. Which might be why Regina didn’t seem as fearful as Snow did during the enactment. ( I’m sorry if none of this reply makes sense – I’m writing it @ 4am & I’ve yet to go to sleep. Ugh. )
// Book price regulations. Hm.. you know that sounds really intriguing/interesting.
February 22, 2012 at 2:03 pm #137530obisgirlParticipantThat is a very fascinating theory/analysis of the Evil Queen’s curse. Your Professor would be proud. 😀

Don’t worry – we’re not going to wake up and Henry’s going to say ‘You were there, and you were there, and you were there.’ It’s real.”
