Okay, so I’m sure a few of us are fans of Wicked (either the musical or the novel) and now with the introduction of the witch, it seems A&E may have included a few references to wicked, like last epsiode when Glinda mentions her having been friends with the witch, which sounds like the opening to the musical Wicked. @HappyEndings and I formed a nice theory in the chat which goes a bit like this.
Notice in the promo stills for 3×20 there is a rather large book sitting on top of the well behind Zelena. From the promo we know Dorothy will use water from this well to “melt” the witch. In Wicked, there exists the Grimmerie, a powerful book of magic that once belonged to the wizard but found its way to The Witch’s hands. The book held a lot if magical information from controlling dragons to a spell for a posioned apple 😛 anyway could this be the OUAT version of the Grimmerie? We know that plain old regular water probably cannot harm the Witch as she turned into a mermaid who was soaked with water. So maybe Dorothy uses the book to create a spell or potion within the well to defeat the witch?
Also, how did Dorothy get to Oz? In Wicked, Madame Morrible (with her weather magic) summoned The Cyclone that dropped Dorothy. In The Wiz, GLINDA summoned it. Could it be perhaps the witch of the east is responsible? The East Witch is the only witch Dorothy has no interaction with. What if the book was hers and she tried a spell that went awry, summoned Dorothy, which casued the house to fall on her head, and Dorothy took the book and somehow found out a way to defeat Zelena?
Thoughts?

I think it is for sure. They already crossed in Wicked territory with Glinda and Zelean being former friends, so I have no doubt that the book on the well is ONCE’s version of the Grimmerie.

Possibly. It could also be that the water from the sea in SB just isn’t special. We know the water that runs through all the realms is magical–Nostos, Nyx’s waters, ect. The water that surrounds SB is just good ol’ fashioned H2O.

That would be ironic seeing that, traditionally, the tornado drops a house on her.
Dorothy took the book and somehow found out a way to defeat Zelena?
Not sure if “defeat” is the right word here since we know Zelena is alive and well and crazy.
But it may be a possible clue as to how you take down the witch

Didn’t August say that magical waters ran through all lands and connected them? I thought that was how the mermaids traveled through different lands?

I mean, obviously it didn’t work because the Dorothy showed in the promo is from the past (right?) and Zelena’s still alive (at present). Unless, of course, they can find another water with some sort of even more powerful magic than the ones Dorothy used.
And didn’t A&E once said that it’s gonna take more than just a bucket of water to defeat Zelena?

Elphaba did die in the novel. But no, she didn’t come back to life in Son of a Witch. The show could go the musical route and I agree, Zelena might have faked her death when Dorothy tried throwing her a bucket of water, just like Elphaba did in the musical. Maybe they could even go as far as Elphaba getting mad at Dorothy (and Glinda) because Glinda gave the poor child her magical slippers to get back to Kansas. That’s why Zelena was greenified when Dorothy threw the bucket of water at her in the promos. She was envy because the kid will get what she wants while Zelena’s still stuck in Oz.
