Maybe that’s why PP needs Shadows: to protect NL from the Dark Curse?
Good idea like the umbrella thing that Cora used to protect them from the curse.

Yes and I predict that PP has the sight, it’s the same reason that he could see he needed Henry.

Well, clearly *someone* on the island can see into the future or how would they have that sketch of Henry? However, whoever knew about Henry did not know how far in the future he existed because they were looking for him before he was even born!
August 2, 2013 at 1:12 pm #202877RumplesGirlKeymasterSeeing the future is tricky, it’s a puzzle, like the Seer said. PP knows he needs Henry but he doesn’t know when he will be born. At some point I’m betting he gets another vision that Bae needs to be released from NL in order to get Henry. For PP it’s all a jumble.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"August 2, 2013 at 1:52 pm #202881SlurpeezParticipantFlute player….Pan plays the pipes! Connection? Is PP really the Pied Piper too??? Maybe before he used his shadow he lured children with his flute. (context is everything)
I’m a huge fan of the Peter Pan = Pied Piper theory! It would make so much sense (I also love how their initials are the same). It’s already been confirmed that the Once version of Peter Pan is going to be more sinister than J.M. Barries’ original story. This guy is going to be far from a happy-go-lucky boy in search of adventure, fun and childhood games. He’s going to be a “mischievous and devious” 17-year-old with a temper.
Well, if you’ve ever read the origins of the Pied Piper story, it is very dark, which could have a basis in actual history but which has passed into legend:
The Pied Piper of Hamelin is the subject of a legend concerning the departure or death of a great number of children from the town of Hamelin (Hameln), Lower Saxony, Germany, in the Middle Ages. The earliest references describe a piper, dressed in multicolored clothing, leading the children away from the town never to return. In the 16th century the story was expanded into a full narrative, in which the piper is a rat-catcher hired by the town to lure rats away with his magic. When the citizenry refuses to pay for this service, he retaliates by turning his magic on their children, leading them away as he had the rats. This version of the story spread as a fairy tale. This version has also appeared in the writings of, amongst others, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the Brothers Grimm and Robert Browning.
The story may reflect a historical event in which Hamelin lost its children. Theories have been proposed suggesting that the Pied Piper is a symbol of the children’s death by plague or catastrophe. Other theories liken him to figures like Nicholas of Cologne, who is said to have lured away a great number of children on a disastrous Children’s Crusade. A recent theory ties the departure of Hamelin’s children to the Ostsiedlung, in which a number of Germans left their homes to colonize Eastern Europe.
Now the fact that the Pied Piper of Hamelin was not at all heroic but was actually a kidnapper at best and a mass murderer of innocent children at worst means that he was one nasty guy. The fact that he lured children away from their families and possibly even to their deaths sounds really evil and sinister. Also, according to the legend, the Pied Piper played a musical pipe, so it is very intriguing that Peter Pan also played the pipes.
Moreover, we know that the Once version of Peter collects boys and then holds them hostage and controls them through fear-tactics by threatening to rip off their shadows. We also know Peter wants Henry for some (presumably dark) purpose, and that he very likely wants Henry dead. Based on the title for 3×1, Peter could want Henry’s heart since he is the truest believer in magic (as confirmed by his belief in SB being cursed so much that he actually died once before Emma saved him with TLK).
The fact that the Once version of Peter Pan is devious means he could be the one who started the Ogres’ War which led the children away from the parents and to their death on the battlefield. This would make Peter Pan the Pied Piper of legend who was responsible for the disappearance and/or death of a town’s youngest generation. By contrast, it’s very intriguing that Rumplestiltskin’s first act of magic was to save his son and all of the other children from dying on the battlefield by ending the conflict. In my opinion, this could foreshadow that Rumple’s final act of magic will also be a heroic one to save not just Henry but all of the Lost Boys being held captive in NL by PP.
We already know from “Second Star to the Right” that PP lured Wendy to NL with promises of adventure but which turned into a living nightmare.Wendy reported to Baelfire that the boys on the islands wept bitterly becase of their homesickness and that the reason it’s called Neverland is becasue anyone who steps foot on land can never leave. PP’s shadow returned to try and lure her brothers into captivity, but took Baelfire instead, which seems very intentional if PP knows the future. He probably foresaw that Bae would father Henry, the boy with the heart of the truest believer.
