PoM, yes, we had similar thoughts, though I was thinking if Neal and Emma stayed, Henry wouldn’t have been adopted at all but Regina would try to kidnap him like she did Owen.

“That’s a curious statement. Makes me what what ‘terrible things’ Adam is referring to if Neal had stayed” Agreed. There was no magic so couldn’t be magical consequences…. maybe he means that without Emma having Henry, giving him up for adoption.. all the events leading up to Emma’s TLK wouldn’t have happened, therefore the curse wouldn’t have been broken. Maybe.

There was magic in the “real world”. We saw the Dragon say that, though of course, there’s so little of it that most people he said didn’t believe, but Neal does. Neal saw the Shadow, when he was a boy, and also the fact that August knew his real name meant his magical past could catch up to him. I don’t think it was odd for Neal or August to worry about terrible things happening in a magical sense based on how the curse worked and how the rules of magic have been established in the show.
If you want to come up with another explanation, you still have to consider the context in which Adam tweeted it. I don’t think Adam was hinting at spoilers about a new storyline, because Adam doesn’t want to spoil. So what makes the most sense to me is, something based on what we already know about how the curse worked.
