Her obsession with children is interesting. Maybe it has something to do with her loss of innocence as a child. She obviously did not grow up with a loving mother and so in always trying to have a child herself to correct her own traumatic life.

She could be filling the hole that rejection has left in her heart. If you look back she tried to force Hanzel/Gretel and Owen in being their mother. They all rejected her and she was unable to “force” them to love her. She in turn lashes out to make their life miserable. She does the same with Snow. She activates the curse and gets bored in a sense. So she wants a child and adopts one. Henry in turn rejects her over and over again.

I think all the rejection would make anyone miserable and evil. She has been rejected her entire life. Also, you would think Cora’s last thought would begin filling the hole a little bit. However, the damage has been done.

I wonder since this is the rescue Henry, child season if they will dwell on this at all.

I think it’s basically that Cora screwed her up.  She never had that close mother/child relationship with Cora, and then she had a step-daughter who she hated forced on her, so she became fixated on having a child she could love the way she’d always wished her mother had loved her.

I agree that giving her a long lost bio-child would feel too much like they were trying to give her a Henry replacement.  It could be a good twist if she’d found out she was pregnant after Daniel died, but then she miscarried, though.  Something like that could fuel her desperation in wanting to have a child.

adding to this: then Charming falls off the JR and is almost drowned by mermaids. That’s how we will meet the merpeople of NL, it sets up Ariel probably being in 304.

I’m starting to wonder if there will actually be merpeople in NL, or if Ariel is just an isolated case? If Hook had pre-NL experience with mermaids, his comments still fit, even if he’s encountered no mermaids actually in NL. But then, Eddy did say in an interview that NL has mermaids, so maybe there will be a whole bunch of them…or maybe it was just his way of saying that yes, Ariel will be in NL for sure. I just really can’t wait to see their take on mermaids!
