Agent Carter is coming up soon. So I wanted to star a thread to begin discussion
[adrotate group="5"]January 7, 2015 at 6:01 am #294558torrieParticipantSo, the first episode of Agent Carter was last night, and I was pretty impressed. Peggy Carter is an interesting character…I love how strong and independent she is. I’m also a fan of Jarvis; I think he’ll be a cool character to have around.
I feel like this might be a dark series…there was quite a body count in those first two episodes!
I really, really dislike that voiceless guy with the mustache (the one who is always on the typewriter). I like my villains to be charismatic…it adds interest to the character (like Garrett on SHIELD; he was an interesting villain). But I just want this guy to end up dead ASAP.
And yes, the shipping has started already 🙂 I know Carter is Captain America’s girl, but I would not mind seeing her with the one-legged guy in her office (I’m not sure how to spell his name)…he seems nice 🙂
January 9, 2015 at 11:56 pm #294604Sci-Fi GirlParticipantThis was fun!
I love all the vintage stuff: the look, the music, all that. The sexism is annoying, but it would just be bizarre if they left it out.
I like Jarvis a lot too. And the shipping, yes! I skimmed your post before watching (it wasn’t too spoilery), and when you said “seems nice” and “not sure how to spell his name” I knew you must be talking about Enver Gjokaj! 😀 He was one of my favorites when he was on Dollhouse, I could tell he was insanely talented, and he deserved some major roles. I’ve seen him in a few guest spots since then, but I’ve just been waiting for him to show a up as a regular in something, and here he is! 😎
Also, on Dollhouse he was in one of my all time favorite ships! (One of these days I will post my whole list. I promise. 😉 ) BTW, that ship was him, and the actress who played Skye’s mother! I’m guessing there’s no way they could meet, is there? 😛
And you think the actor’s name is hard to spell, try pronouncing it! 😆 (Though I can tell you how, if you want. 🙂 )
So I think his name here is Daniel Sousa? And yes, I ship it! Here’s the thing. In Cap 2, in the Smithsonian exibit they had some footage of Peggy reminiscing. Now, this won’t be an exact quote, but I saw it three times in the last two weeks so it will be fairly close. 😉
German forces had us pinned down, one of our battalions was trapped behind enemy lines. Steve … Captain Rogers rescued [a number] of men. Including, as it turned out, the man who was to become my husband.
Even after he was gone, Steve was still changing my life.
Now, Steve’s dissapearance is still really fresh. But we have to expect her to move on, and live her life. She lives a very long and full life, it makes sense that she would find someone else.
So we can’t be sure, but I think it’s entirely possible that Daniel is that someone! And he seems more than nice, he seems really sweet, and kind, and noble, and funny!
One of his funny lines: “Poor guy, I heard he got his personality shot off”
😆
And poor Peggy having to listen to that stupid radio show, LOL! I liked the scene where the radio announced “American women are so weak!”, while at the same time showing her whooping the daylights out of a guy! 😆 (of course she’s not American, but the point still works! 😆 )
So I wonder what Stark is up to? I can’t believe it’s anything too nefarious, because he’s Stark. He must have a good reason for hiding things. My guess is he knows more about the bad guys than he is saying, and is trying to lure them out and trap them somehow, and he has enlisted Peggy’s help without giving her the whole story. Which makes things a lot more dangerous for her.

January 11, 2015 at 8:44 am #294624Sci-Fi GirlParticipantYou know, you could very well be right. 🙁 He could be too good to be true. But, I think I’m going to be in denial for a bit. I just like him way too much!
But the thing is, that totally sounds like something that writers would do. Make us like someone way too much, to make it extra shocking when they reveal the truth.
And thinking about it, Hydra is not the overt threat here, but we know they are around. And we know they do not get found out. Anyone who does find out gets killed, and we know that is not Peggy. It happens to Howard Stark, but not till much later I think. So, WE may find out who they are, but they are going to stay very well hidden from those around them.
He does seem like a pretty good candidate for that. 🙁

January 11, 2015 at 12:31 pm #294630GaultheriaParticipantA secret organization called Leviathan has to be connected to Hydra. They’re both named after monsters, but different mythologies, so maybe L. was created to oppose H., using methods just as brutal.
If Sousa is working for the bad guys, maybe he’ll turn out to be a Snape.

That would make me so happy!…I love Snape!!
January 12, 2015 at 11:55 pm #294666Sci-Fi GirlParticipantI watched Agent Carter again last night. Partly because it is just too much fun, and I don’t want the fun to stop. But I also thought I might pick up a few more clues to the things we have been theorizing about.

First, all the music is just so great! 😎
OK, one thing seemed very suspicious, that I didn’t notice the first time. The voiceless guy with the typewriter knew exactly who Peggy was. He first saw her undercover at the club, and then he knew where to find her at home, even though she is not on the lease. Then he reports her to his bosses as “SSR Agent Carter”. Not even her roommate knew she was an agent, her cover is at the phone company! But he knew exactly who she was on sight. The only way I can think of for him to know that, is if he had seen photos of all the SSR agents. Which means there HAS to be a mole in the department. 🙁
Speaking of moles, and this may be unrelated, because if Daniel is a mole we don’t really know for who. I’m afraid I think Daniel must be a mole of some kind. He seems very smart, and pays attention to everything. He seems to follow Peggy around a lot, and didn’t find (or at least reveal) her picture. (Ok, that last one could just be because he likes her.)
But when they showed him reading the racing journal, and circling things, it seemed randomly out of character, and they focused on it. He normally seems very dedicated to work, working through the night on the manhunt etc. So why was he reading a racing journal while he was supposed to be working? He was certainly not about to go to the track in the middle of work! They are in the middle of a manhunt, and when he gets called to the basement it’s “Oh, I guess I’m going to miss the race”? No. He wasn’t going to a race.
I noticed this the first time too, but I dismissed it because I didn’t really suspect him of anything. But now I am certain that someone is sending coded instructions to him, published in the racing journal!!! 😮

Here’s something else that I knew, but it only sank in the second time. Of all the Stark technology on the loose, Leviathan only wants one particular piece. And they are still after it, but we don’t know which piece! It’s hard trying to be the first one to find something if you don’t know what it is, or why they want it.
Also, I wondered the first time if Stark knew something about Leviathon, and had secretly let his technology get out in order to draw them out and find them. The flaw in that theory, is Stark wouldn’t have wanted all those dangerous materials on the loose. But then I remembered, only ONE thing was supposed to get stolen, not all of them! Leet Brannis betrayed his employers and stole all the goods, in order to freelance and sell them himself.
To take that farther, there is one more possibility. Gaultheria, you mentioned that Leviathan may actually be an anti HYDRA organization. What if Leviathon was created by Stark for that purpose? What if Stark has in fact discovered that HYDRA still exists, but knows he can’t say so without getting killed? What if the only way to fight them is to create another secret organization, that appears villainous, in order to keep the real objective hidden? Remember, only one piece of tech was supposed to go walking, not all of them. How did Leviathan even know about the vault and it’s contents? (Though that competing CEO sure knew a lot. )
I don’t actually like this theory too much, nor do I think it is very likely. Particularly because of how brutal the “nameless” guy was, and the kind of orders he got. But I thought of it, so I wanted to put it out there. *shrug*
(Oh yeah, and a face pushed towards the flame burner. Almost as bad as the power saw. 😮 )

Some other things I liked:
Peggy’s routine at the milk plant was too funny, LOL! 😆 And I could barely recognize her!
And favorite line: “A penguin could get here faster!” 😆 (Conjuring persistent images of furiously waddling penguins. 😉 )
