Day 6: least favorite female recurring:
Victoria Hand. Even though we share a name, her character always came off as extremely insensitive and distrustful. I actually thought she was Hydra throughout most of ‘Turn, Turn, Turn”, until it was revealed to be Garrett. I was not very upset when Ward killed her at the end of the episode…though I was very upset that it meant Ward was Hydra đ

It was great to see Dum Dum Dugan last week, and the Black Widow training facility was terrifying and awesome. (I had a feeling that Dottie was shady from the minute they introduced her.) If there isnât a second season of this show, I will be VERY put out.
Cendrillon, there is an Agent Carter thread as well! đ

February 8, 2015 at 3:33 pm #295567Sci-Fi GirlParticipantOk, here goes:
—
Day 1- Favorite Female Regular Character (Past or Present)May. She is awesome. She is tough and fun at the same time, and she has so much emotional depth. I feel like I understand where she is coming from, even without knowing the details of the mission that earned her her nickname.
My favorite is how she can be funny while being serious, like the line “My face hurts”. đ Or her one line during a season one interrogation: “Have a cookie.” đ Her delivery of those lines is just brilliant! đ
—
Day 2- Least Favorite Female Regular Character (Past or Present)This is a really tough choice, because I really love everyone. I guess I’ll say Bobbi. I like her well enough, but she’s new, so we don’t know her as well as the others yet.
—
Day 3- Favorite Male Regular Character (Past or Present)Coulson. He was already my favorite before the show even started. đ He is the glue that holds together the movies, and certainly this show.
He cares about everyone, he believes in the good of everyone. And over the course of the show, he has had a really interesting evolution as a character.
Actually, his journey and Skye’s are linked. At the beginning of season one, Coulson came from a place of absolute trust. Trust in SHIELD as an organization, and trust in the good that was being done, trust in his orders, trust in the chain of command. While Skye came from a place of absolute questioning. She questioned everything about SHIELD: the organization, the methods, and the intentions of the higher ups who gave orders unseen. At the very beginning, she didn’t trust anyone but herself. The first one she learned to trust was Coulson, and he had to earn it.
Over the course of the first season, through their friendship and their various ordeals, they each learned from each other’s opposite POV, and came to a balance somewhere in the middle. Coulson learned of the lies he had been told, and was forced to question everything he believed. And Skye learned to trust her friends, those she worked closest with. And she learned to believe in the good they could do working together.
And then there was the Hydra reveal, and Ward. And I think they had gotten to the perfect place for dealing with that: trust to a point, with limits.
I know I just said a lot about Skye, but that is my favorite character arc, and in that arc the two characters’ journeys are intertwined. đ

February 8, 2015 at 3:45 pm #295568Sci-Fi GirlParticipantOne more thing about Coulson. I thought of this when I rewatched Avengers recently. Coulson is Marvel’s version of Henry! đŽ That is, the reason Coulson is the glue, is because he is The Truest Believer!!! đ

February 9, 2015 at 6:03 am #295591torrieParticipantDay 7: Favorite Male Recurring:
In my mind, he’s totally a main character, but since he wasn’t listed as a regular for this season, I’m going to go with Agent Triplett.
Trip’s character was always so much fun…he was honest, loyal, goodhearted, and an optimist. I love how cheerful he was with the rest of the team, even May, and that they all loved and respected him back (even Fitz, after a point). I really hope we’ll get to see Trip again in Season 2, if only in flashbacks.
February 10, 2015 at 6:00 am #295632torrieParticipantLeast Favorite Male Recurring:
Ian Quinn. He’s a very weak character…he does all the dirty work (like shooting Skye) just because he was ordered to, and never considers doing the right thing. Even after the situation, he never showed any remorse. I loved when May started beating him up after he shot Skye. One of my favorite lines was when Quinn says “Stop…you can’t…” And May responds, “Why not? Because you’re defenseless…like she was?” *PUNCH*
February 11, 2015 at 6:04 am #295693torrieParticipantFavorite Guest Appearance:
Fury. He’s the perfect combination of intimidating, but hilarious. His interactions with Coulson (especially in the finale, when they’re bickering with Garrett) always make me laugh. Again, I’m going to quote one of my favorite scenes:
Garret: “You remember that speech you used to give us, Nick, about how one man can accomplish anything once he realizes he can be something bigger? Well, now I am.
Fury: “A part…’a part’ of something bigger.”
Garrett: “Is that how it went?”
Coulson: “Not a great listener.”
Fury: “If you tell me this whole Hydra path thing you took is because you misheard my damn “one man” speech…” đ
February 12, 2015 at 6:02 am #295774torrieParticipantLeast Favorite Guest Character:
Lorelei. She was a brat and a coward. She hid behind the men she manipulated while they did all the dirty work for her. She had absolutely no consideration for anyone else. She was so cocky throughout the episode, but the second Lady Sif caught her, she turned into to a sniveling little child. *sigh*…not impressed.
February 13, 2015 at 3:17 pm #295864torrieParticipantFavorite Villain:
So, I’m deciding not to consider Ward a villain, or else I would talk about him here.
I actually enjoyed Garrett as a villain. Good person? No…that’s what makes him a villain, but he was everything a good villain should be. He was manipulative, snarky, and ruthless. And he had a tragic-ish backstory, but not one that made you pity him more than hate him, like many Once villains I could mention. And he had the funniest death scene I’ve ever seen…it was brilliant.
